On Location: ‘Ocean with David Attenborough' Takes Us From the Red Sea to Hawaii
British broadcaster and biologist, David Attenborough, has been the undisputed voice of conservation in the UK and across the world for decades. He's narrated over 100 documentaries about the natural world, including blockbuster series like Life on Earth, The Blue Planet, and Planet Earth, which all revealed never-before-seen footage of our environment and the secret lives of the wildlife we share it with.
This year, the presenter celebrated his 99th birthday and marked the milestone with the release of new feature-length documentary Ocean with David Attenborough, co-produced by Silverback Films and Open Planet Studios. Pitched as his most important message to decision-makers yet, the documentary uncovers the human destruction of the ocean while exploring the ways in which we can heal it. Released ahead of World Oceans Day on June 8, and the United Nations Ocean Conference that takes place from June 9 to 13 in Nice, France, the film is a message of hope that the team behind it believes highlights the oceans' plight through groundbreaking cinematography and Attenborough's voice of authority.

'This is a hopeful message that if we protect a third of the ocean, then the rest of it will fill up with life again, which will be a win for every living thing on earth—for a stable climate, a breathable atmosphere, for our fisheries, conservationists, all marine life, and for the three billion people that rely on the ocean to eat.'

French police probe fake Disneyland 'marriage' with nine-year-old
French police were on Sunday probing the circumstances of a bizarre stunt at Disneyland outside of Paris, with a group of adults suspected of hiring the theme park and paying hundreds of extras to stage a fake marriage for a nine-year-old Ukrainian girl. Two people were held for questioning in the case, which initially caused alarm when staff alerted police on Saturday that it could have concerned an illegal child marriage. But investigators now believe that the so-called "marriage" was staged, with the girl's mother reportedly saying that she wanted her to feel like a Disney "princess" for the day. "The event turned out to be a staged event, with the guests themselves extras" invited to be part of the stunt, deputy prosecutor Alexandre Verney said. "So it wasn't a wedding, but a staged wedding filmed with around a hundred extras. They hired Disneyland Paris, pretending it was a real wedding," he told AFP. Four people were arrested and taken into custody, and the questioning of two of them -- suspected of fraud and money laundering -- was extended on Saturday evening. They are the so-called "groom" who is believed to be behind the event, 22 years old and "presumed to be British", and a Latvian woman, 24, said a source close to the case. However, the other two people detained -- a 41-year-old Ukrainian woman, and a 55-year-old Latvian man -- were released. The investigations, including a medical examination of the nine-year-old girl, a Ukrainian national, found that "she had not been subjected to any violence or coercive acts," the prosecutor's office said. According to the Le Parisien daily, which first reported the incident, a man had several weeks previously hired the Disneyland Paris complex for a sum of 130,000 euros ($150,000) for several hours before it opened to the public. Staff were astonished when the nine-year-old appeared wearing high heels on Saturday morning, barely able to stand in the elaborate footwear, and they alerted the authorities, it said. The paper said the man who organised the event had submitted false documents concerning his identity and Disneyland filed a complaint. But scrolling past yet another story of someone sipping a bright green iced latte on a sunny terrace finally pushed me to make one last attempt. This time, I headed to Ella's Ca Phe House on Sir Isaac's Walk — and I'm glad I did. The strawberry and matcha actually complemented each other — a rare feat, in my experience. While sipping on my very first enjoyable matcha, I scanned the menu and decided to try something more: their Pork Banh Mi (£9.50). A traditional Vietnamese sandwich, it arrived crisp, fresh, and absolutely packed with flavour — tender pork, crunchy pickled veg, and a kick of spice nestled in a perfectly baked baguette. The décor is colourful and full of personality, with a warm and welcoming vibe. The staff are lovely — friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they serve. With summer here, I have no doubt Ella's will continue to be a go-to hotspot in Colchester.
