Concert Review: Club Classics & Hip-Hop Energy At 'The Road To FAM' With Levi's & 88Rising In KL
The Future Asian Music (FAM), in collaboration with Levi's, presents their first edition of the 'Road To FAM' with 88Rising, a music series that highlights emerging talent across Southeast Asia. Kick-starting their first leg in Manila, Philippines on 14th May, with indie-pop sensation Zack Tabuldo headlining, the tour continues to Singapore and finally the motherland, Kuala Lumpur.
Held on 21st May 2025 (Wednesday) at Over & Above KL, the venue was popping with shades of red, paying homage to Levi's signature red tab on their jeans. Visually, the venue was stunning with Over & Above's signature LED pole illuminating the club in red and white, adding visual appeal above dancers and performers.
Levi's Patchwork & Opening DJ Sets By Damien Mirza & Roshan
As you enter the venue, you're greeted with a small section displaying best-selling Levi's products such as their crew neck tees and straight cut jeans, which come with a free patch with every purchase. Moreover, Over & Above had ample seating, giving free seating choices for all those who had RSVPed for the event. The venue also had a selection of drinks that night available to purchase at their bar, which was stationed behind.
The drinks were flowing, and the atmosphere was scenic, but the party was a tad bit slow in the beginning with local emerging DJ, Damien Mirza, opening the dancefloor with his signature blend of amapiano and house with a hint of R&B classics in his mix. A few casual dancers made it to the floor, a bit shy at first but thoroughly enjoying the beats and rhythms of the opening DJ.
Until familiar tracks started playing, such as a remix of '24K Magic', which got the crowd moving and on their feet. Damien brought forth club classics in an enjoyable opening set, setting the night for a funky night made for dancing. The night continued with Saturday Selects' Roshan, amping up the tempo of the night with a house, R&B, funk fusion. His set was truly enjoyable, able to get even the shyest of people on the dancefloor, nearing the end of his set.
Zamaera's Dripped Out Segment
What started as funk and fun, did a 180-degree turn as the decks were exchanged to leading Malaysian producer I-SKY, opening the set to headliner Zamaera's anticipated FAM segment. Decked out in a full denim fit, fitting for the collaboration with Levi's, as well as two backup dancers, she came and served with powerful lines and showed the crowd who our Malaysian representative was! She greeted the crowd with, 'Over & Above, how are y'all doing tonight?' as she opened her set with a familiar tone filling the sound system as she sang 'Ikan Kelek, Mak Eloi Eloi', adding a cultural twist to her hip-hop-centred performance.
Her performance went on as she delivered line after line of powerful raps and beats as the crowd surrounded her on the dancefloor. The night went on with Zamaera performing her popular single, 'Big Fish', where she coordinated a small dance for the crowd to follow along as she performed, gaining plus points on her crowd interaction. Producer I-SKY also participated in the performance, delivering a freestyle rap during her 'Big Fish' performance.
During her 45-minute segment, Zamaera performed freestyle raps as well as her hit songs, such as 'Helly Kelly' and her new single 'Jumper', oozing confidence and swag throughout the night. The artist also experienced a small wardrobe malfunction but was able to push through despite it. We could not keep our eyes off her throughout her performance as she performs and interacts accordingly with the crowd, giving chances for the audience to sing and dance with her.
Nearing the end, the crowd was loving her energy as a dance battle erupted in the crowd, sparking even more positive reactions from the audience, who thoroughly enjoyed the show. She ends her segment with a heartfelt thank you to the organisers, her team, as well as the crowd who came and supported the event.
The Malaysia leg of the 'Road To FAM' tour marks a significant introduction to what's to come in the final show in Bangkok. The show had everything from funk to hip-hop prowess as our local artists showed what the growing music scene can offer. The 'Road To FAM' continued to Jakarta, Indonesia, last Sunday (25th May 2025) before its finale in Bangkok. Malaysian singer-songwriter Khai Bahar unveils his new stirring single and its all set to hit the South-East Asian market
Not every chapter in life is filled with joy. Sometimes, we stumble in silence, unsure of how to rise again. In those quiet moments, a song can become a refuge – a reminder that it is okay to pause, to lean, and to simply feel. Malaysian singer-songwriter Khai Bahar returns with his latest single, 'Beri Sedikit Waktu', a deeply moving ballad composed by Adi Pawana and Rudy Nastia, and produced by leading label Sony Music Malaysia. More than just a melody, the song offers comfort to weary souls – an emotional embrace for those carrying silent burdens. 'I accepted the song the moment I heard it. No hesitation. No second thoughts. It struck something deep inside me because it mirrors a chapter I'm living… losing my beloved mother hasn't been easy,' Khai shares sincerely. 'Kau Bukannya Menyerah, Hanya Bersandar Seketika…' The above line which translates to 'you're not giving up, just leaning for a moment…' is the heart of 'Beri Sedikit Waktu', inviting listeners to slow down, to acknowledge pain, and to rest when the weight of the world feels too heavy. According to Sony's media release, the song is not just a ballad – it is a tender embrace for those quietly battling their own storms. 'I believe everyone has felt overwhelmed at some point, but not everyone knows how to express it. This song creates that space – to cry, to let go, and to accept that we don't always have to appear strong,' Khai explains. A Healing Ballad For The Heart 'Beri Sedikit Waktu' carries messages of empathy, acceptance, and inner healing. It encourages listeners not to bottle up sadness or pretend to be okay, but instead, to allow themselves to feel, and to heal – at their own pace. Musically, the song takes form as a ballad rich in 'healing' energy – featuring minimalist arrangements, a calm vocal delivery, and soul-stirring lyrics. 'I sang it in the most honest way possible. Not too technical or polished. I just wanted to share the feeling. I believe that if it comes from the heart, it will reach the heart,' says Khai, who admits to thinking of his mother throughout the recording process. Recorded at Mixbro Records in Cybersouth, the track only took about two hours to record – but emotionally, it was a heavy session for the singer. 'There were several moments I had to pause because I got really choked up. But I knew I had to record this song. Because I believe many people need something like this right now,' he adds. The Music Video: A Journey Toward Healing The official music video (MV) for 'Beri Sedikit Waktu' brings an equally powerful visual message – sadness is not the end of the road, and there is always light at the end of the tunnel. 'It represents someone's journey from emotional darkness to the realization that life must go on. No pain lasts forever – sometimes, we just need a little time to heal and rise again,' explains Khai, who was also involved in conceptualising the MV. A Son's Heartfelt Dedication To Khai, this song is not only a tribute to his late mother, but also a gift to anyone who has experienced loss – be it a loved one, a hope, or their own spirit. 'I know many people are silently fighting battles. This song is for them. If it can bring even the slightest relief or make them feel seen or even heard… that's more than enough for me,' he says. Khai hopes 'Beri Sedikit Waktu' will be a comforting companion to listeners, especially when they need time to lean on something – and slowly find their strength again. 'Not everyone can get back up right after a fall. I want this song to feel like a warm hug for all of them. Just take your time. Cry if you need to. But trust me – you will be okay again,' Khai assures. Now Streaming On All Digital Platforms 'Beri Sedikit Waktu' is now available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, Joox, and YouTube Music. The official music video can be watched exclusively on the sonymusicMYVEVO YouTube channel. Ejen Ali 2 continues its amazing run as producers now hoping for mission accomplished with an impressive RM65mil haul
Hit animated movie "Ejen Ali The Movie 2" (EATM2) is still doing well with local cinemagoers and producers are now hoping to reach the mission possible of seeing a total haul of RM65 million, itself that will be an amazing benchmark for animated movies. Producers of the movie, Primeworks Studios, have called the Malaysian fans of the movies, whom they have nicknames 'Agents', to continue supporting the movie, which has already hit the magic number of RM55.1 million this week, the highest ever collection for an animated movie in Malaysia. "Agents, time is running out. We are in a mission now. We are hoping for a never before seen collection for an animated movie and we hope our agents will see us through in reaching the target," said Pinework Studios in a statement. The media release also pointed out that the biggest number of fans for the movie are from Selangor, Federal Territories (KL and Putrajaya), Johor, Perak and Kedah . "We are counting on our Agents the deliver and ensure further success of this movie. We thank the fans for the immense support and we have they continue supporting us. "Let's create another big success for local animated films. The producers also promise to up the tempo and raise the bar in our future ventures. Again, we thank all agents (fans) for their fantastic support," said Pinework Studios. Even more impressive, EATM2 has now surpassed the grossing of blockbuster films from Hollywood and Asia over the past two months. This is a clear testament to the confidence and extraordinary support of Malaysian audiences for animated films that are based on local identity and spirit. 'This success does not belong to WAU Animation alone but to all the agents who believed in and stood by us from the beginning," said Usamah Zaid Yasin, director of the EATM2 film. "I truly appreciate the dedication of the entire WAU Animation team who have poured their energy and creativity into making this film a success. "Thank you also to our production partner, Primeworks Studios, who have given their full commitment in promoting this film, and have always come up with fresh and bold new ideas to ensure that EATM2 continues to be the audience's choice. "And of course, the highest appreciation goes to the fans who have been our backbone and main source of inspiration since day one.' From an animated series on television to the silver screen, Ejen Ali has grown into a mature and influential franchise. This second film not only strengthens the brand, but also reflects the evolution of local animated storytelling that is bolder, more dimensional and touches the hearts of various audiences. The first two seasons of the series were followed by 'Ejen Ali The Movie' in November 2019, which grossed an impressive RM30 million (US$8 million) in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, and Indonesia, making it one of the highest-grossing animated films in Malaysia to date. The latest installment, 'Ejen Ali Season 3', also holds the title of being the first Malaysian animated intellectual property to be co-produced with Disney+ Hotstar South-East Asia, and the series was launched exclusively on the streaming service in June 2022. For the record, EATM2 is still showing in cinemas nationwide.
