KSE-100 rises nearly 400 points amid budget buzz
The Pakistan Stock Exchange opened trading on a positive note on Tuesday, as the benchmark KSE-100 Index settled with a gain of nearly 400 points during the first trading session of the week following the Eid holidays, with investors eyeing upcoming budget measures to be unveiled later in the day.
Positive momentum prevailed throughout the trading session, pushing the benchmark KSE-100 Index to an intra-day high of 122,611.53.
At close, the benchmark index settled at 122,024.44 an increase of 383.44 points or 0.32%.
The federal government today would present the budget 2025–26 with an estimated size of Rs17.6 trillion in the National Assembly for debate and approval.
Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb would present the federal Budget-2025-26 in the National Assembly. He would also lay the Finance Bill 2024 in the Senate on the same day, as required under Article 73 of the Constitution.
During the previous week, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) stayed positive, fueled by growing optimism over a potential agreement between Pakistan and the IMF.
The benchmark KSE-100 index rose by 1,950 points or 1.6% to close at 121,641 points on the last trading day of the week compared to 119,691 points at the end of the previous week.
Overall, four trading sessions were held due to the Eid holiday on Friday, June 6, 2025.
Internationally, stocks were buoyant and the dollar remained on guard on Tuesday as trade talks between the United States and China were set to extend to a second day, with tentative signs that tensions between the world's two largest economies could be easing.
US President Donald Trump put a positive spin on the talks at Lancaster House in London, which wrapped up for the night on Monday and were set to resume at 0900 GMT on Tuesday.
Stocks advanced in Asia, extending their rise from the start of the week.
MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan advanced 0.5%, while Nasdaq futures gained 0.62%. S&P 500 futures edged 0.43% higher.
EUROSTOXX 50 futures and FTSE futures both added roughly 0.1% each.

LONDON: Copper prices rebounded on Friday after US President Donald Trump pushed back a decision on US military involvement in the Israel-Iran conflict, but gains were capped by uncertainty over tariffs and Chinese demand. Three-month copper on the London Metal Exchange was up 0.4% at $9,654 a metric ton by 1400 GMT. Earlier in the session, prices hit the weakest since June 13 at $9,558.50. Most metals moved higher along with stock markets after news emerged that Trump will decide in the next two weeks whether the US will get involved in the Israel-Iran air war and as Europe tried to coax Tehran back to negotiations. 'We've got the geopolitical uncertainty in the background although maybe a little bit of a reprieve on that side in the sense that Trump wants to allow a bit more time for diplomacy,' said Nitesh Shah, commodity strategist at WisdomTree. 'But we still have all the trade fears, which may have become a secondary feature over the last week. It's not that far down the line before the expiry of the 90-day pause on the Liberation Day tariffs.' The 90-day pause in Trump's broadest 'reciprocal' tariffs will end on July 8. Premiums for nearby LME copper contracts have jumped to their highest since October 2022 because of low inventories and large holdings of cash contracts and warrants, traders said. Copper stocks in LME registered warehouses at 99,200 tons have dropped more than 60% since the middle of February and are at their lowest since August 202. Much of the outflow of LME stocks has been to the United States to take advantage of higher copper prices there in anticipation of US tariffs being imposed. US Comex copper futures dipped 0.3% to $4.84 a lb, bringing the premium of Comex over LME copper to $1,016 a ton. A Shanghai-based metals analyst at a futures firm said in addition to the Middle East and US interest rates, investors were concerned about weaker demand in top metals consumer China. Among other metals, LME aluminium gained 0.7% to $2,540 a ton, zinc rose 0.4% to $2,651.50 and tin climbed 1.5% to $32,490 while nickel shed 0.4% to $14,995 and lead dipped 0.1% to $1,989.50.

PPP delegation meets Fazl
ISLAMABAD: A delegation of senior leaders of Pakistan People's Party (PPP), Saturday, met with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and discussed Budget-2025-26 and the political situation of the country. The PPP delegation comprised Khursheed Ahmad Shah, Qamar Zaman Kaira, and Chaudhry Manzoor. Haroon Mehmood, Mufti Abrar Ahmed participated in the meeting.
