Arshad Nadeem qualifies for Asian Athletics final with 86.34m javelin throw

Pakistan's Olympic hero Arshad Nadeem has once again proven his dominance in the field by securing a spot in the final of the men's javelin throw at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships with a stunning 86.34-metre throw on his very first attempt according to private news channel sources.
Competing in Group A during the qualification round, Nadeem's powerful throw immediately placed him at the top of the leaderboard and confirmed his qualification for the final, scheduled for May 31 at 1.10pm Pakistan Standard Time (PKT).
This marks his first major international appearance since his record-breaking 92.97m gold medal throw at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Joining him in the final is fellow Pakistani javelin thrower Yasir Sultan, who qualified from Group B with a respectable 76.7m effort. The duo is part of a compact five-member Pakistani athletics squad currently competing in Gumi, South Korea.
Nadeem, who was recently honoured with the Best Asian Athlete Award by the Asian Athletics Association, is aiming to add another gold medal to his growing collection, which includes titles from the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, and other regional competitions.

This throw reinforces his status as one of Asia's premier track and field athletes and a strong medal contender. Pakistan's Athletics Federation expressed confidence in the squad, emphasising their ambition not only to compete but to win.

"This is the first major event after the Olympics, and I've been working hard for the past five months," Nadeem had said earlier. "I do not compete with anyone else — my competition is with Arshad Nadeem himself."
Previously, Nadeem was named the Best Asian Athlete by Asian Athletics, which recognized his remarkable achievements on the continental stage.
The 2025 Asian Athletics Championships feature over 2,000 athletes from 43 countries. With Pakistan's most decorated athlete in peak form, national hopes are high for another podium finish.
Nadeem will head to England after this championship to begin preparations for the World Athletics Championships in September.

The coach dismissed some of the complaints about the competition and pointed towards the attitude of the South American clubs as an example of follow. "I love when I see Botafogo, all the Brazilian teams, Argentinian teams, how they celebrate, how they are together, I love them," said Guardiola. "I'm pretty sure for the South American teams, for the Brazilian teams, for Argentinean teams, this competition is maybe the maximum... PHOTO: AFP First impressions can be deceptive but Kirsty Coventry showed that behind a sunny disposition she will have the mettle to deal with the trickiest of people and situations when she succeeds Thomas Bach as president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Monday. Looming large on the horizon of the 41-year-old Zimbabwean -- the first woman and African to occupy the post of the most powerful single figure in sport -- is US President Donald Trump. With Los Angeles hosting the 2028 Olympics, Trump will feature often on Coventry's agenda. Trump has not been shy in giving public dressing downs to world leaders — notably Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa. Judging by Coventry's initial response, after a crushing first-round victory in the presidential election in March, she may have Trump's measure. "I have been dealing with, let's say, difficult men in high positions since I was 20 years old," she said, adding "communication will be key." Unlike Trump, though, Coventry embraces the word failure, for it helped forge her stellar career. "Everything's scary. Embrace that. You have to fail," Coventry told the swimming team at her American alma mater Auburn University last year. "I've learned the best lessons by failing, and I have failed at many things. 1st phase of PCB skills camp ends
The first phase of the Skills Development camp, featuring 15 players, concluded here at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) on Saturday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed. According to the cricket board, the players participated in several fitness and fielding sessions from 6 am to 8 am, while skill-based sessions (net practice) were held from 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) Ground and NCA from Monday to Thursday. They also engaged in match scenarios at the LCCA Ground on the final two days of the Skills Development camp. First batch of Pakistan players for Skills Development camp: Aamir Jamal, Abrar Ahmed, Ahmed Daniyal, Babar Azam, Hasan Nawaz, Maaz Sadaqat, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Mohammad Haris, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Naseem Shah, Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Salman Mirza and Sufyan Moqim. Notably, a total of 47 players had been shortlisted to participate in the camp in three groups from June 16 to July 5 and following the conclusion of the first phase earlier today, the PCB has also announced the names of 15 players, set to partake in the second phase from June 23 to 28. Abdullah's County debut Pakistani cricketer Abdullah Shafique's departure to England for the County Championship has been delayed, Yorkshire County Cricket Club confirmed on Saturday. Abdullah was set to represent Yorkshire in two red-ball matches and four Vitality Blast T20 games during his stint with the club. However, according to a statement issued by Yorkshire on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, a delay in the visa process means Abdullah will not be able to arrive as originally scheduled and will miss the upcoming Championship match against Nottinghamshire. The club has not yet confirmed a revised arrival date for the Pakistani batter. "Anthony McGrath revealed this evening that Pakistan overseas batter Abdullah Shafique has been the subject of a visa delay and will miss this weekend's Championship match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge," the club said.
