A portrait of David Bowie took the artist Ed Chapman 180 hours to make – out of biscuits. The mosaicist created images of the 'Heroes' singer for McVitie's, which is celebrating 100 years of the Chocolate Digestive. He used more than 1,000 of the treats to fashion the faces of icons including Trevor McDonald and Judi Dench out of whole biscuits, fragments and crumbs. His works go on show 2-5 May at McVitie's Chocolate Digestives Experience in Regent Street, London.

Suite oblivion
A sofa dumped in a Gloucestershire village has become an unexpected tourist attraction – with fans taking photos and giving Tripadvisor reviews. The two-seater was abandoned on waste ground in Lydbrook, but photographer Alex Elton-Wall saw potential in the forlorn furniture – and has since taken the portraits of more than 150 locals. 'It's taken on a life of its own,' Alex said, but he expects the fly-tipped seat will soon be disposed of properly. 'All good things come to an end,' he said.

The owner of a cockerel that awoke neighbours early has been ordered to pay nearly £4,000. Harold Brown let the bird make 'unacceptable levels of noise' disturbing their sleep 'from as early as 5am each day,' said New Forest District Council. Mr Brown's bid to quash a conviction for non-compliance was dismissed at Southampton Crown Court.

Casualty viewers concerned for fan-favourite as they plea 'look after yourself'

Casualty viewers were left heartbroken as Stevie Nash (played by Elinor Lawless) returned to the ED. In the latest edge-of-your-seat episode of Casualty, viewers witnessed Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) returning to the ED post-cancer treatment. Advised by medical professionals to extend her rest period, a determined Stevie was keen to dive back into work regardless. Yet, when faced with an influx of overdose cases due to tainted drugs, she quickly found herself overwhelmed. ‌ While newcomer Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) initially promised his support for her shift, he was promptly swept away by other crises in the department. ‌ Audiences took to social media expressing their concern, with many feeling it may have been too premature for Stevie's return. One viewer expressed sympathy, commenting: "Sorry, Stevie. I don't think you're ready at all #Casualty" Meanwhile, another observed: "Stevie being thrown into the deep end on Day 1 #Casualty." A sympathetic comment read: "Poor Stevie rushed off her feet on Day 1" Another fan advised: "Stevie you shouldn't be back so soon actually I'm glad you are but please look after yourself." Echoing this sentiment, one person said: "Stevie really hasn't been supported back to work at all #casualty" While another commented: "Poor Stevie. Much too soon to come back to work." Someone else stated: "My heart breaks for Stevie #casualty" as another offered: "Tonight's episode is stressful." ‌ As the episode progressed, we saw Stevie confronting Flynn about his absence during her tumultuous comeback shift, though he assured her he believed in her capabilities and kept a watchful eye on her the entire time, reports Wales Online. As the drama on the show unveiled, it emerged the duo had past connections from their youthful days. Despite hints of a longstanding camaraderie, when Flynn advances romantically towards her, she is visibly unimpressed and promptly puts him in his place. ‌ The actress shared her insights on the anticipated reappearance in the series and Stevie's reaction to Flynn's ill-timed kiss. Elinor divulged to What to Watch: "I know, it's like, 'dude, read the room and smell the chlorine!' "Stevie is very much, 'What are you doing? !' She has seen him do this [in the past] to other women but out of pride she never went there. "It's a moment where she takes charge and tells him to back off! It's been great working with Olly to find the key to our characters' friendship." Although Stevie firmly rebuffed Flynn in the moment, viewers are left wondering if this could signal the start of a blossoming romance.

The best pictures from Pride Cymru 2025 as thousands take to the streets in celebration

Pride Cymru returned to Cardiff today with thousands taking part in the city's biggest annual march, marking the 40th anniversary of the first Pride event in Wales. The original Pride in 1985 drew fewer than 100 people and today's event saw more sign-ups in advance than ever before. The atmosphere throughout the day was upbeat and full of colour, with families, community groups, and performers all taking part. Many attendees spoke about the importance of visibility and creating space for people to be themselves and the importance of children being able to see people expressing themselves freely and positively in public. A pro-Palestine protest group, Cymru Queers for Palestine, blocked the original route near Cardiff Castle. The group said they had tried to engage with Pride Cymru beforehand but felt their concerns were ignored. Hannah, from Cymru Queers for Palestine, told WalesOnline: "We contacted Pride, met with them and they ignored us. So we will not stop and we will not rest until we say that Pride Cymru has no ties to the Israeli war machine." The parade was redirected, and Pride Cymru later released a statement emphasising Pride as a space for both celebration and protest, stating: "Despite our best efforts to engage with the group ahead of and during the event, the situation on the ground made it impossible to proceed with the original parade route as planned." They continued: "Pride is a space for protest, celebration, and solidarity. We remain committed to creating a Pride that reflects the diversity and voices of our entire community." Attendees also highlighted how Pride remains rooted in activism, especially in the face of growing challenges to LGBTQ+ rights. The celebrations are continuing in Cooper's Field with performances from Ella Henderson, Shola Ama, Kimberly Wyatt, Booty Luv, and more Local drag performer Carrie Sauce.

Homes Under The Hammer star 'failed on every level' with £500k pub rennovation

Martin Roberts has admitted he drastically underestimated the time and cost of his latest project, with his deadline of two years up and half a million spent on a derelict pub Homes Under The Hammer star Martin Roberts admits he has "failed on every level", after he underestimated how challenging it would be to renovate a derelict South Wales pub. The former I'm A Celebrity contestant, 61, bought the Hendrewen Hotel in Rhondda in 2023, and invested half a million to revamp the rundown boozer. Not far from his own farmhouse, renovation guru Martin wanted to help the local community, which he said had "lost their heart". But he has now admitted he had completely misjudged how much time and money it would take. ‌ Having originally estimated it could be done in two years at the cost of £500,000, Martin has already gone over his deadline and the makeover is nowhere near finished. He admits it has been 'challenging', and has only been motivated to get through thanks to his team of 15-17 year olds, who have been working with his tradesmen. ‌ Martin hoped it would give them practical skills to use when they leave education, having chosen a pub in one of the most deprived areas in the country. The reality TV star wanted to give the kids a "step up the ladder" to help them get jobs when they finish, as well as planning to employ 30 locals when his project is finally complete. Speaking to the Sun, Martin explained how he felt like he'd failed. He told the paper: "For a man who spends all his time telling people to make sure they stick to their budgets and timescales, I have failed on every single level. "I'm still smiling but, oh my word, what a challenge it's been, I'll be honest, it's the first commercial property I've ever done. There have been lots of residential houses and flats, but commercial properties have a lot more complications, I'd say we are 60 per cent there." Martin's vision for his hotel includes an eight-bedroom establishment, with each of the rooms having a television theme. He plans to have Fawlty Towers, A Question of Sport and Homes Under The Hammer themed accommodations, paying homage to the show he's presented for more than 20 years. The TV star previously told WalesOnline: "I often act a bit on gut instinct, and possibly don't always tell my wife because sometimes I think there's a danger I will be talked out of things because they appear daft on the surface, I only sort of mention it when it's too late!' ‌ He added: 'I've never run a pub, I've never run a restaurant, and I've never run a hotel. So, hey, what could possibly go wrong?!" Martin's idea for his new venture came after he had emergency surgery and suffered a terrifying health scare after he suffered chest pains. He thought he had COVID, but when he was hospitalised, medics told him he had pericardial effusion - a build up of fluid around his heart. ‌ Doctors warned him that he could only have hours to live if he didn't go in for the op. He told Metro: "It was a bit of an eye-opener to be honest, being three hours from death, that's always going to ruin your day. "I was told to slow down and really take things easy… so I bought a pub which needed complete renovating and which I've got try and run, having no experience of running a pub, restaurant or a hotel. It suddenly makes you realise how fragile we all are in lots of ways."
