New from Frederique Constant is the Classic Tourbillon Manufacture, now with a blue-grey mother-of-pearl dial. Encased in a three-part white gold case, the Frederique Constant Classic Tourbillon Manufacture is an emphatic take on some higher-end watchmaking from Frederique Constant, which has become somewhat synonymous with affordability and accessibility.
The mother-of-pearl dial is beautifully paired with a light blue alligator leather strap, complementing the dial's soft yet vivid colour palette. Soft and warm, the unique fusion of subtle grey and blue hues works exceptionally well to enhance the aesthetic of the 18-carat white gold case while also showing off the brilliance of the hand-applied hour markers.
The in-house tourbillon is on full display through an aperture at 6 o'clock and sports some really nice architecture. Overall, it's a lovely bit of kit, albeit a touch expensive. Frederique Constant has confirmed that only 36 individually numbered pieces will be produced, each priced at CHF34,995.

Hublot is making some serious moves of late. Just a few short weeks after announcing the first tourbillon to arrive in the Square Bang family, the high-end watchmaker has followed it up with a stunning all-purpose beast. The Big Bang Meca-10 Concrete Jungle, as the name implies, is an homage to the streets of New York City, arriving complete with a remarkable concrete case and bezel. As Julian Tornare, CEO of Hublot, explained, the industrial component not only plays up to the maison's innovative approach, but also to the raw brutalism that drives the new era of watchmaking.
'Concrete has long been misunderstood as cold and industrial, but in the world of high design, it has become something else entirely—tactile, refined, even expressive,' Tornare said. 'With the Big Bang MECA-10 Concrete Jungle, this timepiece captures the raw energy of New York and the meticulous precision of Swiss watchmaking. This timepiece is dedicated to our new New York Boutique and is crafted from the same material as our new Fifth Avenue boutique's façade.'
While there are numerous highlights to call out, the Big Bang Meca-10 Concrete Jungle's open-worked dial is perhaps the most impressive of all. The structure houses exposed bridges, wheels, and various indicators, providing a visual feast that feels entirely contemporary, particularly with the dots of red that break up an otherwise monotone look. Of course, the star attraction here is the Big Bang Meca-10 Concrete Jungle's 10-day power reserve, thanks to the hand-wound HUB1201 movement.

Breguet's 250th anniversary celebrations continue with a pair of vintage-inspired chronographs, the highlight of which is undoubtedly the Type XX Chronographe Limited Edition. Encased in the maison's very own gold alloy, the Type XX Chronographe Limited Edition does away with a date window and instead sports an enlarged 15-minute totaliser in the stylised 'Big Eye' enlarged format. It's a unique take on the classic Breguet style, which may well have its detractors, but this is perhaps the most exciting Type XX model released so far.
According to Gregory Kissling, CEO of Breguet, the new models provide a glimpse into A-L Breguet's original ethos, right down to the spirit of creation. 'These new Type XX timepieces, with their smaller diameter and hand-wound movement, venerate the design codes of the original models,' Kissling said.
Inside, the stunning new timepiece is powered by the calibre 7279, marking the first time the product line has boasted manually wound movements. Essentially a variation of the high-performance, 5 Hz calibre 728 introduced by Breguet in 2023, this movement incorporates a flyback function that allows the watch to be reset to zero and a new count instantly started by a single press of the pusher located at 4 o'clock. You'll also find a 15-minute counter at 3 o'clock and a small seconds display at 9 o'clock.
The Type XX Chronographe Limited Edition's manually wound movement is covered by a plate that covers most of its inner workings. However, the plate itself is rather special and features a hand-engraved depiction of the Breguet 19 aeroplane designed by Louis Breguet. According to the brand, the engraving also depicts the precise route taken in 1930, the European and North American landmasses' frosted finishing contrasts against the smooth Atlantic Ocean. Simply stunning, but you would expect nothing less from Breguet.

Finally, from Ulysse Nardin, is the Freak X Gold Enamel; a nod to the maison's most important product lineup and the classic finery of a rare métier d'art. Featuring a blue PVD titanium and rose gold case, alongside the same incredible rotating heaving mass that the Freak has become synonymous with, this timepiece is every bit a world-stopper. A main point of differentiation with the Freak X Gold Enamel is the blue flinqué enamel dial, which adds another element of drama to a watch that is already super cinematic.
According to the brand, the Freak X builds on the same principles as the original Freak, with the entire movement rotating to indicate time. For the uninitiated, the hours are shown by a pointer on a rotating disc, while the movement itself completes a full revolution every hour to mark the minutes. 'This complication, known as a flying carousel, is unique in that the movement is held without an upper bridge, seemingly 'flying' above the hour disc, creating a mesmerising visual and mechanical show.'
The Ulysse Nardin Freak X Gold Enamel is an exceptional timepiece whose real prowess lies within its mechanism. But with that said, it's always fun to see new iterations of the Freak X, and in the Freak X Gold Enamel that is still absolutely the case.

Glenfarclas 70-Year-Old is the Scottish Icon's Oldest Ever Expression

By Jacob Osborn - News Published: 21 June 2025 |Last Updated: 20 June 2025 Share Copy Link Readtime: 4 min Every product is carefully selected by our editors and experts. Glenfarclas, one of Scotland's few remaining family-owned and managed distilleries, has announced the release of its oldest whisky to date . . Distilled on 20 November 1953, the Glenfarclas 70-Year-Old marks a 'pinnacle' in the distillery's legacy. marks a 'pinnacle' in the distillery's legacy. Only 262 bottles of the Glenfarclas 70-Year-Old will be available globally from June 2025, with pricing starting at £20,000 (AUD$41,000), subject to regional variations. If you know your Scotch, then you know Glenfarclas. Like so many of its whisky-making brethren, the Speyside distillery has been around for centuries and counting. However, it's one of Scotland's few operations that's still family-owned after all these years, making it the exception rather than the rule as various conglomerates continue to swallow the industry whole. From this enduring heritage comes the distillery's oldest expression yet, a 70-Year-Old whisky that's limited to just 262 bottles and available for a suggested retail price of £20,000 (AUD$41,000). With its latest release, Glenfarclas joins a growing number of distilleries that are breaking personal records in terms of age statements. Over the past few years alone, everyone from Highland Park to The Macallan has likewise debuted their oldest expressions to date. However, don't take that to mean these whiskies are anything short of small miracles, Glenfarclas 70-Year-Old being no exception. Distilled all the way back in 1953, the liquid has survived six different distillery managers across seven decades. Glenfarclas distillery manager Callum A. Fraser | Image: Glenfarclas 'This is true Glenfarclas and this expression captures the very DNA of the distillery,' distillery manager Callum A. Fraser said. 'What we did 30 or 40 or even 70 years ago is very much what we still do today. The warehouses are still here, holding decades of stories in their walls. At the heart of it all, tradition remains key.' 'This whisky has waited seventy years to be enjoyed. Through wars, the reign of a queen and now a king, the world has changed — but this spirit has endured, and it stands as a rare and timeless testament to patience and craft.' Detractors might argue that excessive maturation doesn't amount to a better-tasting spirit (in fact, some attest that overexposure to oak can have a detrimental effect), but we're nevertheless intrigued by this new – and by that, we mean old – release. Matured in first-fill sherry casks inside the distillery's dunnage warehouses, the whisky predictably imparts a dark teak colour. The nose goes big on stewed fruit with gentle peaty accents, followed by an impossibly rich palate of dark chocolate, toffee, spice, sherry, dried fruit, and roasted coffee. A long and mouth-coating finish resurrects the smoky undertones and presumably cultivates a fair amount of oak and spice before trailing out. Glenfarclas Chairman John Grant | Image: Glenfarclas Naturally, as one of the last truly independent distilleries standing in Scotland, Glenfarclas remains a beacon of craftsmanship and defiance in the industry. For fifth-generation family member John Grant, the release of this highly coveted 70-year-old expression is testament to the unwavering dedication of the entire Glenfarclas team. 'As chairman of a family-owned distillery, I am committed to overseeing the production of our exceptional malt whisky, just as my forefathers did before me,' Grant said. 'We take great pride in maintaining complete control over every aspect of production, preserving our time-honoured traditional methods – most notably, the use of direct-fired stills, which creates a robust and full-bodied spirit.' 'Remarkably, this particular cask has been maturing almost as long as I've been alive. Releasing it now marks a true milestone, and one that Callum and I have considered carefully and with great respect for its legacy.' Glenfarclas 70-Year-Old | Image: Glenfarclas Glenfarclas 70-Year-Old makes up part of the Warehouse Series and comes preceded by 30, 35, and 40-year expressions, respectively. Unlike some neighbouring brands – cough, The Macallan, cough – this distillery doesn't go overboard with the presentation. That is to say, the whisky comes with the same understated bottle design and packaging as the other releases in the range, so as to let the liquid speak for itself. And based on what we can infer, there's a lot of speaking to do. The Glenfarclas 70-Year-Old will be available globally from June 2025 through a select network of specialist retailers in over 50 markets. The recommended retail price is £20,000 (AUD$41,000), subject to regional variations. Glenfarclas 70-Year-Old | Image: Glenfarclas

Channel 10's Perth to east coast move ‘tip of the iceberg' warns expert Rob McKnight

Plans to move some off-air roles at Channel 10's Perth newsroom to the east coast are 'the tip of the iceberg' and will ultimately mean less local coverage, leading TV commentator and experienced producer Rob McKnight has warned. Mr McKnight, co-creator of industry news website TV Blackbox, said although viewers may not immediately notice the difference, it would have an effect on local stories. He also suggested further consolidation by the network's foreign owner Paramount was likely, after plans to move editors in Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane to Melbourne and Sydney were revealed this week. 'An editor in Sydney or Melbourne is just not going to give a local Perth story the kind of energy they give to a story in their own market,' he said. The West Australian understands that Perth's Channel 10 newsroom was told on Monday that as many as four editor roles would be moved to Sydney and Melbourne by the end of the month. Similar roles in Adelaide and Brisbane have also been affected. It is understood about 10 staff will be offered redeployment to the Eastern States. Channel 10 declined to comment or answer questions, including whether it could commit to having a locally-presented news bulletin. In an email from Paramount's vice president of news Martin White, staff were told of a change to editing workflow to ensure 'greater efficiency' at a challenging time for the media industry. 'No local news gathering, journalism or presentation is impacted by this move in any way,' he said. 'A small number of (operations) roles will be redeployed to Sydney and Melbourne, and those impacted have already been spoken to.' Mr McKnight, a former executive producer of Channel 10's now defunct breakfast panel show, Studio 10, said he thought the changes would be the 'tip of the iceberg' at Channel 10, which recently axed news program The Project. 'I think we are going to see centralisation of Channel 10 continue,' he said. 'You start with editors, then it's graphics, then 'oh we can have our producers in Sydney or Melbourne.' 'You will end up with people in Melbourne or Sydney having a very big say on a story from Perth.' He said there was a big difference in having a local story produced and edited locally. A lack of local knowledge could lead to 'silly mistakes.' It is not the first time Channel 10 has faced questions about its commitment to news in Perth. In 2000 it moved the studio production of the local bulletin to Sydney, before ultimately returning its weekday bulletin to Perth three years later. In September 2020, the Perth bulletin production was again transferred to Sydney, leading to redundancies among local staff. Narelda Jacobs, pictured, started in Perth and moved to Sydney in 2020 to co-host Studio 10 present News from the east coast. Jacobs now presents the national lunchtime and afternoon news bulletins.

BYD Atto 2 and Flagship Sealion 8 Set to Shake Up Australia

Chinese automaker BYD has confirmed that the Atto 2 compact vehicle and the flagship Sealion 8 will be arriving in Australia. and the will be arriving in Australia. The Atto 2 will slot in between the Dolphin and the Atto 3, with expected pricing to be sub-$35,000 . . Sealion 8 PHEV will serve as BYD's new three-row flagship SUV . . Both launches are scheduled in the next few months, with the Atto 2 to arrive first. It is no secret that BYD plans to dominate the Australian automotive market. Over the past few years, the Chinese automaker has steadily rolled out new budget-conscious models, surprisingly spacious lifestyle vehicles and a flagship release or two, but in 2025, BYD is stepping up its game. After moving from a private distributor to an in-house model, the brand is aggressively expanding its Australian presence, starting with the newly unveiled Atto 2 and Sealion 8. Both new vehicles, which operate on separate ends of the BYD spectrum, represent lucrative product launches for the ever-expanding BYD clientele. Better still, both new vehicles are expected to land Down Under in the 'next few months', meaning the rest of the industry better watch out. BYD Atto 2 confirmed for Australia | Image: BYD Automotive BYD Atto 2 As the brand's latest small SUV, the Atto 2 promises to further democratise EVs for Australian consumers, namely through price and convenience. The small but conservatively styled vehicle represents BYD's new entry-level crossover for the Australian market and essentially uses the same underpinnings as the Dolphin, albeit in a more universally appealing SUV body style. Two trims will be available from launch, Essential and Premium, both of which utilise a front motor with an output of 130kW/290Nm. BYD has noted a claimed range of 401km with a 51.3 kWh LFP battery; however, you can expect a more realistic figure of 300km on the WLTP test. BYD Atto 2 interior | Image: BYD Automotive Features Impressively, while the Atto 2 might be BYD's entry-level SUV, the feature list is far from bare-bones. According to Wing You, BYD Australia general manager, the new vehicle will arrive with staple brand additions such as a 12.8-inch touchscreen, 360-degree camera, and ADAS. 'With its exciting looks, superlative technology, and eminent versatility, the Atto 2 promises to be a game-changer in the small-size SUV segment,' Wing You said. 'The Atto family of vehicles is expanding in Australia, and we're confident this latest addition will be well received by local buyers.' Atto 2 Pricing While BYD has not officially confirmed the pricing, the expectation is that the new small SUV will be a step up from the $29,990 Dolphin. That being said, it could quite easily take the title of being the most affordable Chinese SUV by undercutting the likes of the Chery E5 ($39,990 before on-road costs) and the MG S5 (costing $40,490). In other words, it could be the most popular BYD SUV by occupying the sweet spot between the Dolphin and the Atto 3. BYD Sealion 8 confirmed for Australia | Image: BYD Automotive BYD Sealion 8 Meanwhile, BYD continues to enter the premium luxury segment with its largest product yet, while also ticking the box for a three-row SUV. The massive Sealion 8 is a plug-in hybrid SUV with a 110kW, 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that comes with either a front wheel drive configuration in the DM-i (Intelligence) hybrid trim with a 200kw electric motor plus a 19kW battery or the all-wheel drive DM-p (Performance) hybrid variant which adds a second 141kW motor at the rear axle while having a larger 35.6kWh battery. With a bigger battery pack than the Shark Ute, expect the pure electric range to surpass the pick-up at more than 100km. BYD Sealion 8 Performance In terms of performance, the large Sealion 8 DM-p has plenty of firepower with a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 4.9 seconds, which is remarkably close to the smaller Sealion 7. The interiors, meanwhile, are plush, and you need not have to get these eccentric leather colours, but the cabin would be decked out with massage, heated and cooled seats for both the front and second row. It will also be the most cavernous BYD with a large storage capacity. Expect the pricing of the Sealion 8 to be north of $80,000 when it goes on sale here, and that means it will fight head-on with the Kia Sorento PHEV. BYD Sealion 8 interior | Image: BYD Automotive 'We've listened to our customers. We know the desire is here for a proper full-size, seven-seater PHEV SUV,' Wing You, BYD Australia general manager said. 'We're incredibly proud of what the SEALION 8 will represent for BYD in Australia. It's going to be a flagship model for us, and, in classic BYD fashion, it will exceed the consumers' expectations for tech, luxury, and value.' The Atto 2 will come towards the end of the year and the Sealion 8 will be launched by early next year while the launches will not stop there either as BYD looks to fill in all the gaps in its product range by introducing an even smaller car below the Dolphin which is the Seagull or Dolphin Mini. Plus, off-road fans would rejoice at the prospect of the Denza sub-brand, which brings an array of rugged SUVs. It seems BYD wants to clearly increase its market share in Australia over the next few years and will not stop until it does so. BYD Atto 2 confirmed for Australia | Image: BYD Automotive
