Is LSU softball coach Beth Torina on the hot seat after postseason loss?
LSU softball watched its season come to an end on Saturday as the Tigers were eliminated by in-state foe Southeastern Louisiana. LSU, hosting a regional, didn't even make it to Sunday.
LSU began the weekend with a loss to SLU, before beating UConn to stay alive, only to lose to SLU again. For LSU, it marks the eighth consecutive season without reaching the Women's College World Series. The drought comes after LSU made three straight WCWS from 2015-17.
The Tigers continue to make the NCAA Tournament every year, but struggle in the postseason. LSU has only advanced to a Super Regional twice since 2020.
After the SLU loss, fans took to social media to speculate on the future of LSU head coach Beth Torina.
Torina just finished her 13th season leading LSU and has 534 career wins with the Tigers. The resume is strong, but the program has stagnated in recent years. After a hot start in 2025, LSU finished just 12-12 in conference play.
Will LSU softball make a change at head coach?
For now, I'd say the answer is no. LSU reporter Michael Cauble made a strong point. Torina's buyout isn't nothing, and with the uncertainty facing college sports right now, paying that much to let go of a nonrevenue sport coach doesn't make a ton of sense.
It would be one thing if LSU were posting losing records or missing the tournament entirely, but Torina continues to recruit at a high level and get LSU into the postseason. Fans are frustrated and want to see more, but it could be worse.
Torina will likely return in 2026.

Kade Anderson would throw nine full innings and allow zero runs on three hits, 10 strikeouts, and five walks as he led the Tigers to a 1-0 win in Game 1. For the final time, Kade Anderson would trot out onto the mound to give it his all for LSU. He was fully rested and ready to give LSU a shot at starting this series 1-0. Two Chanticleer runners reached base in the top of the first, but neither of them was able to score. In the bottom of the first inning, LSU would draw first blood as Derek Curiel walked and Steven Milam hit an RBI single to bring him around to score and give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. In the top of the third inning, Coastal Carolina would get a runner in scoring position with two outs. They attempted a double steal, and Luis Hernandez made a great throw to Michael Braswell III, and the runner slid off the bag as Braswell secured the tag for the third out. Jake Brown struck out with two outs to strand him at third and keep the game 1-0. In the bottom of the sixth inning, LSU had another chance to score as Milam walked, and then an errant throw to first on a pick-off attempt almost resulted in extra bases for Milam, but the ball hit the umpire, so Milam was unable to advance. That proved costly as Hernandez hit a single that would have scored Milam had he been able to advance. Instead, LSU had runners on the corners with two outs, and Chris Stanfield grounded out to end the inning. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Daniel Dickinson was hit by a pitch on a 3-2 count, but after review, he was called out as it was determined that he leaned into the pitch for out number one. Braswell would ground out, Curiel reached on an infield single, and Ethan Frey was called out on a check swing for out number three. Associated Press OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Kade Anderson pitched a three-hitter in his second straight dominant start, and LSU moved within a win of its second national championship in three years with a 1-0 victory over Coastal Carolina in Game 1 of the College World Series finals Saturday night. The Chanticleers (56-12) lost for the first time in 27 games and must win Sunday to force a third and deciding game Monday night. LSU (52-15) made Steve Milam's RBI single in the first inning stand up with Anderson getting stronger as the game progressed against a Coastal Carolina team that had won its first three CWS games by a combined 24-9. The lefty, a projected top-three pick in next month's MLB amateur draft, was just as good as he was in LSU's CWS opener against Arkansas last weekend. He has allowed one run and six hits and struck out 17 in 16 innings in Omaha. Against the Chanticleers he struck out 10, but he had to deal with traffic on the basepaths after issuing three of his five walks in the first two innings and hitting two batters. He was up to the challenge. The Chanticleers were 0 for 9 with runners in scoring position. Anderson (12-1) walked pinch-hitter Domenico Tozzi with two outs in the ninth, prompting a mound visit from pitching coach Nate Yeskie. Anderson then got Wells Sykes to fly out to end the game.
