Brenda Song Dropped By Agent After The Social Network
Brenda Song says she was dropped by her agent after taking a role in — wait for it — The Social Network. I know — of all things! Let me explain.
If you remember, Brenda appeared in the David Fincher film as Eduardo Saverin's girlfriend, Christy Ling.
It was a small role, but obviously one of a lifetime, which is why Brenda decided to take it. Unfortunately, her agents at the time had other ideas in mind, and when Brenda chose to go with The Social Network over a starring role, they dropped her!
Brenda explained the whole situation in a recent conversation captured by The Wrap.
She said, "There was another project that I had booked when I also booked The Social Network and my agents very much pushed me for the other project. [They're] like, 'It's a lead role, it's a big movie. This is amazing, this is it.'"
"I was like, 'David Fincher is one of my favorite directors of all time,'" Brenda continued. "They're like, 'It's two scenes,' but I'm like, 'This is what I really wanted.' And my agents dropped me over this decision."
Brenda recalled being "really upset" at the time because she'd been trying to find her footing after The Suite Life of Zack & Cody — but looking back, she's glad she followed her gut.
"You have to follow your gut instinct because it's your life. It's about your life experience, it's not about the outcome," Brenda shared. "I realize now that for me, when I make a project, I'm not making it for the final product. I love the process, I love being on set, I love my castmates. My favorite moments of my job are between 'action' and 'cut,' and growing up on a set, it's where I feel most safe, so I always try to say I don't ever want to do a project that I wouldn't stand on the firing line for because it's not a final product, it's about your experience."
"But yeah, I thought I fucked up at that moment," she laughed, "but I guess I didn't."
I surely hope so! You can catch Brenda on Running Point now and check out the clip of her remarks here.

‘Mindhunter's Holt McCallany Teases 'A Chance' David Fincher Will Revive Series As Film Trilogy
More than five years after the Netflix series ended its two-season run, Mindhunter could get the feature-length trilogy treatment. Holt McCallany, who starred as FBI special agent Bill Tench in the true-crime series, said he recently spoke to creator David Fincher about the possibility of bringing the show back in another form. More from Deadline David Fincher Confirms 'Mindhunter' Is Done At Netflix For Now 'Mindhunter' Future In Limbo As Netflix Series' Cast Is Released & Season 3 Renewal Is Put On Indefinite Hold Kevin Williamson "Loosely" Based 'The Waterfront' On His Dad's Criminal Past: "He Paid The Price" 'I had a meeting with David Fincher in his office a few months ago, and he said to me that there is a chance that it may come back as three two-hour movies, but I think it's just a chance,' he told CBR. 'I know there are writers that are working, but you know, David has to be happy with scripts.' McCallany added: 'And I felt very fortunate and privileged to have gotten to do that show at all. I would love it if it were to return. I think, like I said, you know, he gave me a little bit of hope when I had that meeting with him, but the sun, the moon and the stars would all have to align.' With his new show The Waterfront premiering Thursday on Netflix, McCallany noted the movies also would be for the streaming platform. 'So I think that in terms of dates and logistics, it could all be worked out, but it has to do, you know, with David really having the time and the inclination and being happy, you know, with the material. And, you know, that's a big question mark,' added McCallany. Based on the 1995 true-crime book Mindhunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit by John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker, the series ran for two seasons from 2017-19. McCallany and Jonathan Groff starred as the fictional Tench and Holden Ford, based on the FBI agents who pioneered the modern system of serial-killer profiling. The series re-created some of their interviews with killers such as Ed Kemper, Charles Manson and David Berkowitz. By Aman Shukla Published on June 20, 2025, 18:00 IST Last updated June 20, 2025, 11:09 IST Netflix's sports comedy series Running Point took the streaming world by storm with its hilarious take on basketball, family drama, and workplace chaos. Starring Kate Hudson as Isla Gordon, the show's debut season, which premiered on February 27, 2025, left fans buzzing with its cliffhanger finale and star-studded ensemble. With Season 2 officially confirmed, here's everything we know so far about the Running Point Season 2. Running Point Season 2 Release Date Speculation Netflix announced the renewal of Running Point for a second season on March 6, 2025, just a week after its premiere, marking one of the streamer's fastest renewals for a freshman series. While an official release date hasn't been confirmed, production timelines for similar Netflix comedies suggest a potential premiere in early 2026, likely between February and April, assuming production is already underway. Running Point Season 2 Cast: Who's Returning? The core cast of Running Point is expected to return, bringing back the dysfunctional yet lovable Gordon family and their Los Angeles Waves basketball team. Confirmed cast members include: Kate Hudson as Isla Gordon, the reformed party girl turned team president, who will continue navigating leadership challenges. Brenda Song as Ali Lee, Isla's best friend and Waves chief of staff, a fan-favorite for her sharp wit. Drew Tarver as Sandy Gordon, Isla's younger half-brother and the team's CFO. Scott MacArthur as Ness Gordon, Isla's older brother and general manager. Justin Theroux as Cam Gordon, whose rivalry with Isla over the presidency is set to escalate. Fabrizio Guido as Jackie Moreno, a key team member. Scott Evans as Charlie, a vital part of the ensemble. Toby Sandeman as Marcus Winfield, a Waves player. Dane DiLiegro as Badrag, another key player. Uche Agada as Dyson, rounding out the team's roster. Running Point Season 2 Potential Plot Running Point Season 1 ended with major cliffhangers, setting the stage for a dramatic second season. Spoiler Warning for Season 1: The Los Angeles Waves made it to the playoffs but lost in game seven, leaving the team's future uncertain. Isla proved herself as president, but her brother Cam's scheming—spreading rumors to undermine her—sets up a fierce sibling rivalry. Coach Jay's impending move to Boston and his kiss with Isla add romantic tension, while Travis Bugg's rehab stint leaves his arc open-ended. Season 2 is expected to dive deeper into the Gordon family conflict, particularly the battle between Isla and Cam for control of the Waves. The show, loosely inspired by Lakers president Jeanie Buss (an executive producer), will likely continue blending real-world sports drama with comedy. David Fincher's MINDHUNTER Series Could Return as a Trilogy of Films; Writers are Working on it — GeekTyrant
It's been a long, frustrating road for Mindhunter fans. David Fincher's hauntingly detailed psychological crime series seemed to disappear into the Netflix void after its second season, despite critical acclaim and a passionate fanbase. Since 2019, viewers have been left wondering whether they'd ever get closure or a proper ending. Now, we finally have a flicker of hope… with a twist. In a new conversation with CBR, Holt McCallany, who played Special Agent Bill Tench, shared the most encouraging update we've heard in years, and while it's not Season 3, it could be three two hour movies. 'So look, you know, I had a meeting with David Fincher in his office a few months ago, and he said to me that there is a chance that it may come back as three two-hour movies, but I think it's just a chance. I know there are writers that are working, but you know, David has to be happy with scripts.' While, this isn't a sure thing, there is a possibility of Mindhunter returning as a trilogy of films, that is now officially on the table. For fans who've been stuck in cancellation limbo, this is big news. Mindhunter never looked like a big-budget beast, but Fincher's exacting standards and cinematic approach made the show expensive to produce, and that's part of why Netflix pulled the plug. The fact that writers are currently working on potential scripts signals that Fincher is seriously exploring this idea. And even if Netflix ultimately says no, there's still a chance these films could find a home elsewhere. The streaming landscape has shifted, and more than a few high-profile shows have hopped platforms to get finished. Of course, nothing is greenlit yet, but I love the idea that Mindhunter could return in the form of two-hour films. It's the kind of storytelling format that could actually suit the show's methodical pacing.
