Eidul Azha: CM orders foolproof security arrangements
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered the implementation of foolproof security measures across the province in view of Eidul Azha.
The CM also issued a comprehensive set of instructions to ensure smooth traffic flow, public safety, and strict monitoring of transport fares and cattle markets.
The CM directed the authorities concerned to enhance security arrangements in and around cattle markets, which were expected to see heavy public presence during the Eid season.
The CM emphasized that security at all cattle markets must be tightened, particularly in major cities like Lahore and Multan, to safeguard citizens and prevent any untoward incidents.
The CM Maryam directed that traffic monitoring be carried out round-the-clock in Lahore and other urban centers to manage congestion caused by Eid-related activities. Instructions were issued to improve traffic flow around cattle markets in key cities and to deploy traffic personnel where needed.
To ensure fair treatment of the public during the festive season, the CM also ordered strict enforcement of officially approved transport fares across Punjab. She directed that fare charts and fitness certificates be visibly displayed on bus windshields. She warned that overcharging the passengers would not be tolerated. Transporters found violating fare regulations would face legal action and commuters charged extra must be refunded on the spot.
The CM directed the Livestock Department officials to remain present at cattle markets, to monitor animal health, ensure availability of veterinary services and assist the public in purchasing healthy animals.
She directed senior administrative and police officers to remain in the field during the Eid holidays, ensuring timely response and on-ground supervision of all arrangements.
She called for continuous monitoring of the situation at the provincial, divisional, district and tehsil levels.

IGP takes notice of triple murder case
LAHORE: Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar, has taken notice of the incident in which three individuals, including a woman, were killed in a firing incident in the Bhakkar Mills Town area and sought a report from RPO Sargodha. IG Punjab has directed DPO Bhakkar to ensure the immediate arrest of the suspects involved in the firing. He said that all available resources should be utilised to arrest those involved in the triple murder and that providing justice to the bereaved families must be ensured on a priority basis. Street crime on slight decline in capital
ISLAMABAD: Though the street crime rate recorded a slight decline in the last week (the week after Eidul Azha), the number of heinous crimes witnessed a surge despite a heavy security presence in the city. According to data gathered by Business Recorder, four people were shot dead in separate incidents across different areas of the city during the last week. The first incident occurred in the Sarai Kharbooza area, within the jurisdiction of Sangjani Police Station, where a man identified as Behram Khan was gunned down. According to police, Behram had gone to arrange a marriage proposal for his sister-in-law's daughter. The second incident also took place in the limits of Sangjani police station, in the locality of Jori Rajgan. Sohail Qadir, a 23-year-old resident of Tangi Tehsil, District Charsadda, was shot dead. The third murder occurred in Rawat, within the limits of Humak Police Station. The victim, Muhammad Amin, was a resident of Mandi Faizabad, District Nankana Sahib. Another person has been shot dead in the limits of Humak police station. During the last week, unidentified armed man looted Rs 150,000 from a man at gunpoint in sector I-11/2 in the jurisdiction of Sabzi Mandi Police Station. The victim, identified as Waqas, was held at gunpoint and deprived of cash before the suspects fled the scene. Furthermore, unknown assailants held a man named Shazib at gunpoint and snatched his mobile phone near Giga Mall, within the limits of Humak police station. The suspects fled the scene immediately after the robbery. In another incident in the same police jurisdiction, burglars broke into a house in the Java area and escaped after stealing valuables. RTI doesn't extend to any legitimate privacy interest: LHC
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) held that right to information (RTI) does not extend to any legitimate privacy interest and request for provision of information can validly be withheld which violates the privacy of an individual. The court passed this order in an Intra Court Appeal (ICA) of a citizen Shahbaz and burdened the appellant with special cost of rupees one million. The court held that the amount of special cost should be recovered as decree in favour of the respondent department. The court said that the single bench has rightly allowed the constitutional petition of the respondent department; however, the Punjab Information Commission passed the order in blatant excess of its jurisdiction, the court added. The court said the appellant made request for getting information qua disclosure of names of taxpayers and information regarding their properties but imparting of requisite information is subject to an unambiguous consent of said individuals; otherwise, the request could validly be regretted under Section 13 (1) (b) of the Act, the court added. The court observed that the privacy directly relates to an individual's personal life, such as his name, address, phone number, family details, medical history, financial status; etc., which has validly been safeguarded in almost every law, the court added. The court said that any legitimate privacy interest of an individual is protected under the Punjab Transparency and Right to Information Act and it can be withheld under Section 13 (1) (b) of the Act. The court said the right to information is primarily intended to give access to the citizen to the information gathered and maintained by public authorities to ensure that government is functioning in a transparent manner and accountable to the people it serves. The court; however, observed that the provisions of the Act gives the power to public information officer to refuse the application for access to information where such disclosure of information is likely to harm the legitimate privacy or interest of individual unless the person concerned has consented to disclosure of information.
