Lexie Hames and the Seneca Valley softball eyeing a deep postseason run this year
The Seneca Valley girls' softball team has their eyes on a deep postseason run this year.
KDKA's Cassidy Wood met up with the team recently, who are led by ace pitcher and Clemson recruit Lexie Hames.
Seneca Valley is undefeated right now with hopes of winning it all this year.
The reigning WPIAL 6A champions made it all the way to the PIAA 6A Quarterfinals last spring with aspirations of gold this season.
"Ever since we made our run at states, there have been so many people in the community who come to watch these girls play," Lexie Hames said.
"Everywhere we go, we have people following us," head coach Marlesse Hames said. "We have a lot of people going to our games."
It helps to have a Clemson recruit on your team, which is where Lexie Hames will be playing in the fall.
"I mean, sometimes I have to pinch myself that that's really what has happened for her," Marlesse said. "I'm so excited and proud of her."
"It was very, very stressful, but a good kind of stress," Lexie said. "I wouldn't change it for the world."
When she started her recruitment process, Lexie had 43 calls and 30 scheduled visits.
"Went to Virginia, then Clemson," Lexie said. "And as soon as I stepped on campus, I knew that's where I needed to be."
Hames is now on the right track to accomplish the dream she's had since she was a kid -- playing in the Women's College World Series.
"That has been my biggest dream ever since I was little," Lexie said.
But first, she plans to help lead Seneca Valley to a historic run in the WPIAL and PIAA playoffs.

Odem took official visits to four of his finalists — Nebraska, Penn State, Oklahoma, and Ohio State — but Clemson is the only one that didn't receive an official visit, despite hosting him on campus for a May 30 unofficial. Odem, who is ranked the No. 247 overall prospect in the 2026 class by 247Sports and No. 8 cornerback by Rivals, was previously committed to North Carolina before reopening his recruitment in December. He holds over 50 scholarship offers, making his decision one of the more closely watched in this cycle. Even if Clemson misses out, the Tigers are still in solid shape in the secondary for 2026. Dabo Swinney's program already holds commitments from four-star safeties Kentavion Anderson and Kaden Gebhardt, along with three-star corners Shavar Young Jr. and Marcell Gipson. Clemson remains in the hunt for other blue-chip defenders like four-star safeties Tylan Wilson and Blake Stewart. Clemson is all over The Athletic's Top 25 ACC football players for the 2025 season
Clemson football will enter the 2025 season with no shortage of star power, and The Athletic's ($$$) latest ACC player rankings reflect just how loaded Dabo Swinney's roster is. Nine Tigers were named among the top 25 players in the ACC, with five of them ranked inside the top 10, including three in the top five and two in the top three. Edge rusher T.J. Parker leads the way at No. 1 overall after an outstanding 2024 campaign that included 16.5 career sacks, six forced fumbles, and a four-sack performance against Pittsburgh. He was also a key factor in Clemson's win over SMU in the ACC Championship Game. Fellow defensive lineman Peter Woods came in at No. 3. The 315-pound interior force recorded 28 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, and three sacks in his first season as a full-time starter. The Athletic's Manny Navarro described Parker and Woods as 'a two-headed monster' that gives Clemson a major advantage defensively heading into 2025. Quarterback Cade Klubnik was ranked No. 4, earning recognition as the top quarterback in the league. Klubnik made a major leap in efficiency last year and enters this fall with 36 career touchdown passes, the most among returning FBS quarterbacks. His supporting cast only adds to his potential, with standout receiver Antonio Williams ranked No. 7 overall and recognized as the ACC's top wideout after leading the league with 11 touchdown receptions in 2024. National media offer projections on Clemson's Viktor Lakhin being taken in 2025 NBA Draft
The 2025 NBA Draft is fast approaching, and Clemson Tigers big man Viktor Lakhin is among the players hoping to hear his name called Wednesday night at Barclay's Center in Brooklyn. Lakhin, a 6-foot-11, 245-pound center from Russia, transferred to Clemson from Cincinnati ahead of the 2024-25 season and started 33 of the Tigers' 34 games. He averaged 11.4 points and 6.4 rebounds in 23.6 minutes a night while helping Clemson to a school-record 27 victories, including an 18-2 ACC record. Lakhin averaged 1.5 blocks and 1.5 assists per game. The 2025 NBA Draft will consist of two rounds with 59 total selections. Duke guard Cooper Flagg is the consensus favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick. The draft will be held June 25 beginning at 8 p.m. ET and will be televised on ABC and ESPN. Here's where national media outlets have Lakhin ranked among the top 100 draft-eligible prospects and in mock drafts on the final weekend before the 2025 NBA Draft. ESPN projects Clemson's Viktor Lakhin as second-round pick by Clippers ESPN unveiled its final big board rankings of the top 100 prospects on Saturday. NBA analyst Jonathan Givony ranks Lakhin as the 51st best draft-eligible player this year. The latest mock draft from Givony and ESPN's Jeremy Woo have Lakhin being selected by the Los Angeles Clippers with the No. 51 overall pick. CBS Sports' draft prospect rankings have Lakhin much lower at No. 75 overall. Yahoo Sports NBA Draft analyst sees Lakhin as potential second-round pickup Yahoo Sports' Kevin O'Connor has Lakhin at No. 59 on his NBA draft big board. O'Connor's latest mock draft has Lakhin going to the Utah Jazz with the 53rd overall pick. Part of Yahoo's scouting report on Lakhin describes him this way: "He's a great positional defender at the rim, even though he doesn't block a ton of shots. And he's quite mobile on the perimeter with the ability to step out and recover to his man, or hold his own when defending shooting bigs." Clemson basketball: recent NBA Draft history There's a chance Clemson could have a new player in the NBA for the third straight season. Last year, the Denver Nuggets signed forward P.J. Hall to a two-way contract as an undrafted free agent. He made his NBA debut on Nov. 17 and played in 19 regular-season games for the Nuggets. Hall played in 13 games for the Grand Rapids Gold in the G League this past season and averaged 19.2 points and 12.5 rebounds a night while adding 1.1 blocks and 1.8 assists per game. Two years ago, the Oklahoma City Thunder selected Hunter Tyson in the second round with the 37th overall pick as part of an agreed-upon trade with Denver. Tyson played in 51 games for the Nuggets in 2024-25. He had 13 points and seven rebounds in 22 minutes during the Nuggets' Western Conference semifinals series against the Thunder. Prior to Tyson, Clemson hadn't had a player taken in the NBA Draft since forward Jaron Blossomgame was selected in the second round at No. 59 overall by the San Antonio Spurs in 2017.
