Pat McAfee angered one John Cougar Mellencamp, with the former Colts punter spouting a NSFW speech at Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals. McAfee pulled a WWE-like promo, shouting at New York Knicks fans like Spike Lee and Ben Stiller: "Let's send these sons of [expletive] back to New York with their ears ringing! Let's turn this [expletive] up."
Mellencamp was not a fan. He posted on X (formerly Twitter) a long response in which he said: "I was embarrassed when somebody, under whose direction I don't know, called out some of the people who had made the trip from New York to support their team — and in turn, support our team. The audience booed these people. I'd say that was not Hoosier Hospitality."
What do you think happened next? After tweeting, "I am 'somebody,'" McAfee took to the ESPN airwaves on Friday and had this to say (WARNING: NSFW LANGUAGE AHEAD):
"He puts this thing out there, didn't say my name. John, shut the [expletive up]. Calls me 'somebody.' ... You tried to think you were gonna bury me? I don't think so, John."
He went on to say that they might be in the same place and added, "I don't want any of your [expletive], OK? I don't like you. I know your name, and I don't like you."
Whew. We await word from Mellencamp, but maybe this is the end of it for now.
