The Seoul Central District Court has delivered a significant verdict in a civil defamation lawsuit involving the now-deleted YouTube channel Sojang. The channel is also known as Taldeok Camp. Its operator has been ordered to pay 50 million KRW in damages to Starship Entertainment. The compensation is for distributing false and defamatory content about IVE member Jang Wonyoung.
On May 4, 2025, Judge Choi Mi Young of the court's 50th Civil Division presided over the first trial hearing. It had initially been postponed from its original date of April 23. The court partially sided with Starship. They concluded that the channel's content had seriously harmed both the idol's image and the agency's reputation.
Basis for court's decision
While the agency had filed for 100 million KRW in damages, the judge awarded 50 million won plus interest, citing multiple aggravating factors. The court considered:
The number and severity of the uploaded videos,
The malicious and misleading nature of their content,
Starship's prominent status within the entertainment industry,
The central role of Jang Wonyoung and IVE in the agency's business operations,
The fact that Sojang operated as a high-profile 'cyber wrecker', influencing public opinion and fueling online hate.
Moreover, it was noted that each of Sojang's defamatory videos garnered between 100,000 and 1 million views. This amplifies the damage done to Jang Wonyoung's public image.
About Starship vs Sojang case
Starship Entertainment has been pursuing both civil and criminal litigation against the operator since November 2022. The operator was previously indicted under South Korea's Information and Communications Network Act, which penalizes acts of defamation and online personal attacks.
Sojang had built a reputation for targeting high-profile celebrities through a series of videos spreading baseless claims. In addition to Jang Wonyoung, the channel also published harmful content about BTS, Kang Daniel, and other K-pop stars and influencers. Reports revealed that the operator profited nearly 250 million KRW from monetized views before the channel was ultimately taken down.
Sojang's mounting legal defeats
Apart from her agency's legal actions, Jang Wonyoung herself had independently filed a separate lawsuit of 100 million KRW against the same channel. In January 2025, the court ruled in her favor. It ordered the operator to pay another 50 million won in compensation directly to the idol.
The May 4 ruling is only the latest in a series of courtroom losses for Sojang. In November 2024, the channel operator was ordered to pay 30 million won in damages to Kang Daniel. The court found the posted content to be false and intentionally damaging.
In another significant judgment from February 2025, Big Hit Music, along with BTS members V and Jungkook, won a combined 76 million KRW in damages against Sojang. The breakdown included:
51 million KRW to Big Hit Music,
10 million KRW to V (Kim Taehyung),
15 million KRW to Jungkook.
These repeated losses paint a grim picture for the channel's operator, who now faces a heavy legal and financial burden.

Gave Amitabh Bachchan a Hollywood film's CD instead of a script when I went to sign him, recalls producer: ‘He asked what do I do with it?'

In the early 2000s, Amitabh Bachchan was successfully mounting a comeback in Bollywood after enduring a tough period in the 1990s. During this time, filmmakers in India had no qualms about remaking Hollywood films, even without buying any rights as the laws regarding these matters weren't strictly in place at the time. Keeping up with the trend, Big B was also offered the remake of a Hollywood film, but interestingly, without a script. The actor, who is often regarded as the greatest actor in the Indian film industry, was directly handed the CD of a Hollywood film and was told that they will Indianise it if he came on board, which, obviously, left the actor shell shocked. While appearing on Friday Talkies' YouTube channel, producer Bunty Walia spoke about the making of Ek Ajnabee, which was directed by Apoorva Lakhia, and also starred Arjun Rampal, and said that Lakhia decided to make this film after watching Denzel Washington-starrer Man on Fire. The duo thought that if they wanted to remake it, Amitabh would be the best man for the job. Right before this, Lakhia had made his Bollywood debut with Abhishek Bachchan-starrer Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost. Bunty recalled, 'I talked to Amitabh sir's secretary, Sheetal ji, and we fixed up a meeting with him. When I met with him, he asked me for the script, and I told him that we didn't have any script, and I handed him the CD of Man on Fire. I told him we were going to 'Indianise' it and then make a film.' Walia added that Amitabh was confused with what they were trying to do and asked him, 'What do I do with it?' His secretary was definitely not impressed by their level of readiness. 'I remember Sheetal ji looking at me like I was a fool. We didn't have a script or schedule for the film, and we were trying to sign him for the film. He gave us dates for many months later and told us straight that now it was our job to convince Amitabh sir to do the film.' ALSO READ: Bollywood's biggest hairstylist died penniless, family was left with 'nothing to eat' despite counting Bachchans, Kapoors as friends After borrowing money from his father and talking to the actor, Walia was able to sign him for the film, but even though the veteran actor had said yes to the project, he still had his reservations about playing an action hero. Walia talked about shooting in Bangkok and shared how Amitabh was curious to know why they signed him. 'We had some time on our hands, and Amitabh sir asked me, 'Why did you guys sign me? I am an old man.' I smirked and said, 'If you think you are old, then so many people from the industry should just retire'.' Amitabh's time shooting Ek Ajnabee was certainly eventful, as previously shared by Apoorva Lakhia during his appearance on Friday Talkies. The director shared that while roaming around Bangkok after shooting one day, Big B ended up going to a strip club called Exotic p****. 'I told him, 'Sir, this is Patpong; there are live shows here. If I take you, there will be riots. He said, 'No, we will go.' So, I said, Let's go.' Big B would make new plans every day after filming was over, and according to Lakhia, he would reach the set right on time, even if he had been clubbing the night before. Apart from Amitabh, the cast of the film also included Arjun Rampal, Rucha Vaidya, Perizad Zorabian, and Akhilendra Mishra. The movie it took inspiration from, Man on Fire, was directed by Tony Scott.

NEET 2025: Student pays 17k to get tampered marks sheet to impress parents

With an intention to show his parents that he had secured good marks in NEET 2025, an 18-year-old boy from Udupi paid ₹17,000 to get a tampered mark sheet. In the complaint to Udupi Cyber Economic and Narcotic Crime Station, the father of the boy stated that during the NEET preparation period in April, his son saw videos posted on Youtube channel Editing Mater (@ Editingmaster-d6r) showing how results of NEET, CBSE and JEE can be digitally altered. Two mobile phone numbers were given in the videos asking people to call if they need fake marks card. He claimed the boy turned 18 on May 10. The boy dialled the numbers through Whatsapp. The receiver identified himself as Vishnu Kumar. The boy transferred a total of ₹17,000 to Vishnu Kumar. On June 16, Vishnu Kumar allegedly sent the boy, through Whatsapp, a digitally forged NEET scorecard and OMR sheet, which showed boy's rank as AIR 107 with 646 marks. After the boy downloaded the fake scorecard, the sender deleted it, the father said. When the boy showed the forged marks card, the elated father, a government officer, was surprised that none of the newspapers carried news about his son's performance. He sent his son's marks card to a local newspaper, which published the news. The father then checked the results on the NEET website and learnt that his son's actual rank was 17.6 lakh. The boy then confessed to his father about payment of money to get a tampered marks card. Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar said the boy confided to the police about how he was forced to pay money to get a fake marks card. 'We registered the compliant of the father for offences punishable under Sections 66(c) and 66 (d) of the Information Technology Act, and under Sections 336 (2), 318(4), 335, 336(3) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. We are search for the perpetrators, who may have cheated other students in the same way,' he said.
