Sabah PAS yet to finalise under which party logo to contest

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PAS has not finalised under which party logo to contest, says its chief Datuk Dr Aliakbar Gulasan.
He said, though PAS is aligned with Perikatan Nasional at the federal level, it was friendly with the current Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition at the state level.
'We are also looking at contesting a few seats with strong supporters' presence in the coming state election,' Aliakbar said when speaking to reporters at the party's Hari Raya open house here, Saturday (April 26).
'The party needs to consider the best approach when it comes to possible pacts and party logos,' he added.
He said Sabah PAS has over 20,000 members currently, with areas such as Sepanggar, Tawau and Putatan having among the highest numbers at present.
Aliakbar said with their current membership strength, they believe PAS can assist their political partners in the constituencies they contest.
"I think you journalists can guess some of them. Karambunai could be among our targets," he said.
Asked about the public acceptance of PAS in Sabah, he admitted there were still negative sentiments about the party, but hopes that the public can view the candidates they present without prejudice.
Even his appointment as the nominated assemblyman following the 16th state election in 2020 drew criticism seeing how the party did not win any seats in Sabah.
Sabah is scheduled to hold its 17th state election by November this year.

'Gagasan Rakyat not seeking dominance in GRS'

Speaking at the Darau Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) conference on Sunday, he emphasised that unity among component parties is essential for political stability in Sabah. Razali acknowledged grassroots support for him to contest in the upcoming state election but said the people's will must take precedence. He pledged to support any consensus candidate, regardless of party, if it ensures continued stability for the State. Give GRS one more term to prove its worth - Khairul

KOTA KINABALU (June 22): Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) direct member Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan has called on the people of Sabah to give the coalition another term to prove its capability and deliver on its promises. Speaking after officiating the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Moyog Division annual general meeting at ITCC Shopping Mall in Penampang on Sunday, Khairul said he firmly believes GRS remains the best option for the state. He praised GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor for his leadership, describing him as approachable, open to ideas and criticism, and committed to progressive initiatives for Sabah. 'And at this juncture, anyone wanting to lead Sabah will face big challenges. That is why I think this is the best time for Sabahans to give a solid mandate to GRS,' said Khairul, who is also the Batu Sapi Member of Parliament. 'Try us out for one more term. If we don't perform, kick us out,' he added. Khairul acknowledged that political parties must remain grounded in public support, stressing that if the people no longer believe in GRS, then the coalition must reconsider its role and direction. 'It is normal for political parties to exist, but we must be realistic. If our cause is no longer accepted by the rakyat, we have to re-evaluate.' Highlighting Sabah's unique political landscape, he noted that the state has the highest number of political parties ever to form a government in Malaysia's history, illustrating the people's openness to political change. 'That's why GRS and Gagasan Rakyat must truly understand the needs of Sabahans. We cannot afford to be out of touch,' he said. When asked about possible electoral pacts with Pakatan Harapan (PH) or Barisan Nasional (BN), Khairul urged Sabah leaders to end internal rivalries and prioritise the state's future. 'Sabahan leaders have been fighting each other for decades. Why can't we sit down, be objective, and look at what's best for the future of Sabah and the next generation?' he questioned. 'If some still believe that becoming Chief Minister is the only priority, then we can't help them. God bless them.'
