Preparations under way for 'special' RHS Malvern Spring Festival
The organiser of the RHS Malvern Spring Festival has spoken of how it feels like "a home from home" as preparations for the event near their finish.Kate Dufton, show lead, said gardens were "absolutely flying up" at the Three Counties Showground, where the Worcestershire festival begins on 8 May.One of the UK's first flower shows of the year, the event will see more than 100,000 people flock to the site to view gardeners' creations of all shapes, sizes and colours.Ms Dufton told BBC Hereford and Worcester the annual event felt like "one big family" and its welcoming nature encouraged people to return year after year.
"It holds a special place in a lot of people's hearts and feels like a home from home," she added.Planning for this year started the day after the 2024 show finished, with Ms Dufton describing it as a "365-day process".
She said timing and planning were key in setting up the show, along with keeping an eye on the weather forecast."It's having a plan A, B and potentially C in your back pocket but experience teaches you that," she added.The 2025 festival marks Ms Dufton's third year as its lead organiser and she said it was among the best events she had ever worked on, despite it being "quite a weight" on her shoulders."You have a blank canvas and off you go - you can imagine what you want and work out how you want to create it and bring things to life," she said.The RHS Malvern Spring Festival beings on 8 May and will run until 11 May.

We just got to chit chat for a little bit and she was like, really happy for me. Also, really worried about me. I think she understands that when you are starting to go through all of this, there's just a lot of hate coming your way. A lot of people who want things from you. She was more just checking in on me but..." He noted: "She actually really is a lovely person." Article continues below Katy was glad Benson decided to leave American Idol. He said: "She told me she was like, 'leaving that show was the best thing you ever did.'" Scott Mills replied: "And that's no shade on her being on the show." Benson agreed: "No, not at all." At the time, the 22-year-old star had no idea if he wanted to work in music. He continued: "She just understands... I didn't even know if I wanted to do music at that time." So, they were reaching out to a bunch of people and I got reached out to because I had posted a couple of videos at that point. I was like I am in college, what do I have to lose? Rod Stewart only needs two things for pre-show ritual on his Glastonbury rider
Rod Stewart is gearing up for Glastonbury and insists he will not need a fuss backstage and a basic rider will do Rod Stewart has insisted he only needs two items on his rider for Glastonbury Festival to keep him happy. The 80-year-old singer will play the Sunday Legends slot at the festival later this month but insists other than flying back to the UK by private plane he will not have too many requests once he gets on site. Asked about his rider, Rod said: 'I looked at it the other day and I thought, what is all this s**t doing here? All I need is a few bottles of wine and some crisps, and that's it. 'And there's all these bloody things! What am I gonna do with them? No houmous, but big piles of bananas and apples! And when you think the whole world 's bloody starving. I gotta do something about that. Thank you for reminding me.' He also told the Radio Times in a new interview he gargles rum and coke before going on stage, something he never drinks any other time but has been doing as a ritual for 40 years. And he and his band also enjoy "the best after-gig party" with drinks and dancing. Asked what fans could expect from the Glasto show, Rod added: 'I'm really looking forward to it. And it is a different gig. It's like when you're playing a cup final: you're trying to treat it like another game. But, of course, it's not. It's special. 'It'll be glamorous, it'll be sexy. Not me – I'm talking about the other members of the group! And we've got a little orchestra coming on to play with us. And we may have some bagpipes…' In the build up to Glastonbury, Rod has also been speaking to Zoe Ball for a BBC Sounds podcast. In that interview he revealed how playing at Glastonbury is costing him a staggering £300,000. The star - who it's thought is being paid significantly less to perform in the Legends slot - said: 'It's actually cost me £300,000 to do the show because I've got to bring all the band back from America and I've got to take them all the way back to America.' He added to the Sidetracked podcast that he couldn't even get any free tickets, saying: 'Believe it or not, my kids, three of them, all bought their own tickets, because Glastonbury give nothing away. asks me for tickets. All the time. Everywhere. People just come out of the woodwork. 'Oh, you haven't spoken to me for 25 years. Any chance I could have a ticket?'' One friend who will be at the festival is Ronnie Wood, as he and Rod played together in the Faces and is going to join him on stage. His comments come after he was forced to cancel a series of shows, including those at his Las Vegas residency, as he was ill. Rod also opened up about his 80th birthday celebrations with his family. He told Zoe Ball: "I love a shindig - we had a 280ft yacht - I think it was I rented out for 10 days for all my kids and their kids and their husbands, 16 of us all together, and it cost me a fortune, but you can't take it with me." He said he wasn't easy to buy presents for unless it was "from the model railway then I am very happy." Rod previously spent time onboard a luxury 197ft, £274,000-a-week yacht in Italy in summer 2022. But for his big birthday he went one better and set sail on a 288ft vessel which features nine suites for guests, as well as a beauty salon, a gym, a Hammam, a swimming pool and a helipad. Rod, who has eight children by five women, was also photographed watching his beloved Celtic on a laptop on the boat, as nothing will get between him and his football team. The party continued on dry land too, including an evening at La Guérite Beach in St Barths. His son Sean Stewart, 44, is part of the travelling group along with his girlfriend Julia Stambler. Rod's daughter's Ruby, 37, and Renee, 32, are onboard with their respective partners Jake Kalic and Adam Sumner, as well as Liam Stewart, 30, and his wife Nicole Artukovich, who is expecting their second child. Baby grandson's Otis and Louie, both one, were also on the trip.

BBC radio star lets rip expletive outburst live on air after burst of cramp
A BBC star had to 'profusely apologise' after an expletive outburst was mistakenly heard live on air while presenting his lunchtime radio show A BBC radio presenter had to apologise after a huge blunder led to him swearing live on air. After speaking to listeners, BBC Radio Derby host Ian Skye was left embarrassed when his expletives were heard live on air when he thought he had cut from his segment. Ian told listeners to message in if they had any requests. However, as the show's jingle began to play, stunned listeners would have heard an in-pain Ian curse in agony. In the background, the presenter wails: "Ow, f***ing hell," before the show cuts back to the presenters chatting after a song had played. As his co-host joked they had been on a training course the day before to improve their presenting skills, they said: "I don't think they suggested suddenly getting unbearably agonising cramp and shouting really loud on the radio." Ian stuttered in response, saying: "No, that's probably not what I should have come in and done today." He then added: "Can I just say, if before that amazing song from Kate Bush, and I say if. You'd have had to be deaf if you didn't hear a rude word. "I really profusely apologise. You know when something happens and it's just instinct. My very, very calm producer said 'you're still on the radio, Ian." After TV critic Scott Bryan shared the clip to his Twitter /X page, users were left in hysterics. One user simply replied with three crying with laughter emoji faces. Another said: "I don't [think] this will be going up on BBC Sounds with swearing in it." They then questioned: "Didn't it happen to Radio 2s Sara Cox Once?" The incident comes days after fans of The One Show were left stunned as Lulu appeared to swear on live television. While reminiscing about her career with the presenters, the iconic pop star had a slip of the tongue. However, it didn't go unnoticed by viewers with keen hearing. While there wasn't an immediate apology on air, the reactions of the presenters were unmistakable as they processed the unforeseen gaffe. At the time, Lulu was sharing an anecdote about a conversation she had with Tina Turner. She quoted: "And Tina, I have to tell you something else. Tina said, 'I love it, it is just my life story' and I went, 'Hey girl, it is my f***ing life story'." With a rueful smile, Lulu added, "I didn't say it straight to her face, though," which led to Alex slowly nodding, utterly speechless.
