GAC Motor's lifetime engine warranty redefines SA car market
GAC Motor South Africa is entering 2025 with bold energy, a customer-first mindset, and a series of groundbreaking initiatives designed to solidify its position as a major player in the South African automotive market. With strategic price reductions, a historic industry-first warranty, new model launches, and dealer network expansion, GAC Motor is rewriting the rules of engagement in the industry — offering exceptional value, innovation, and quality to the South African consumer.
Driving Change with Transparent Pricing
In a move that underscores its commitment to transparency and customer-centric values, GAC Motor South Africa has announced a strategic price reduction on two of its most popular models — the GAC Emzoom and GAC Emkoo. This significant pricing realignment is not a promotional gimmick but rather a result of improved foreign exchange conditions and global cost-saving efficiencies that the company has opted to pass directly to consumers.
'Our customers deserve to benefit from favourable market conditions,' says Leslie Ramsoomar, Managing Director of GAC Motor South Africa. 'This price drop reflects our investment in the market and our belief in long-term, honest relationships with our consumers and partners.'
As of January 2025, the new retail pricing is:
· Emzoom Comfort: R419,900
· Emzoom Executive: R439,900
· Emzoom R-Style: R489,900
· Emkoo Executive: R519,900
· Emkoo Executive Plus: R559,900
This move aligns with the company's broader strategy to increase accessibility and value, while reinforcing its long-term commitment to the South African market.
A Warranty That Redefines Industry Standards
Taking customer confidence to a new level, GAC Motor South Africa recently unveiled an i ndustry-first Lifetime Engine Warranty across its entire vehicle lineup. This groundbreaking offer covers an unlimited number of years and mileage for the original vehicle owner, provided the car is serviced at authorised GAC Motor service centres using approved parts.
This bold warranty initiative not only sets a new benchmark in customer service but also reflects GAC Motor's confidence in the quality, durability, and craftsmanship of its vehicles. It's a move designed to inspire trust and long-term loyalty among South African drivers.
'This warranty is a powerful promise — a declaration of the confidence we have in our products,' says Ramsoomar. 'It's about peace of mind, lifelong value, and building a brand that people can truly believe in.'
GAC Motor is also expanding its model range to meet the evolving needs of South African drivers. Among the most anticipated new arrivals are the Aion Y electric crossover SUV and the all-new GAC Motor M8, both combining advanced technology with refined design. Additionally, new derivatives across existing models will offer drivers more choices to match their lifestyles.
In alignment with global trends towards green mobility, GAC Motor will also introduce Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) and fully Electric Vehicles (EVs) in South Africa during 2025 — showcasing the company's forward-thinking approach to sustainability without compromising on performance.
Beyond its product lineup, GAC Motor is heavily investing in its national dealership network, growing from 28 to a projected 40 dealerships by the end of 2025. This expansion ensures that more South Africans will have access not just to vehicles, but also to GAC's comprehensive aftersales service and support.
A Vision for the Future, Built on Innovation and Trus t
As part of the Salvador Caetano Group, GAC Motor South Africa benefits from global expertise, including access to six international R&D centres and t hree state-of-the-art production facilities. This robust innovation infrastructure fuels the brand's ability to deliver high-quality, reliable, and forward-thinking vehicles for the South African market.
'We're entering a very exciting phase,' says Brian Smith, Marketing Director for GAC Motor South Africa. 'Our developments for 2025 reflect a long-term strategy focused on offering South Africans more choice, better value, and unmatched peace of mind.'

The Mustang GTD Is Revving Up To Be Ford's Crown Jewel
The Mustang has been a popular car for Ford since its first generation. With such an impressive legacy, there are high expectations for the upcoming Mustang GTD. However, based on what Ford has revealed about the supercar thus far, the automaker aims for the vehicle to be a crowning achievement. Their latest tease shows off the GTD's advanced Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve rear shock absorbers like they are prize jewels. Ford's letting everyone know they are about to unleash something special. A press release from Ford highlights the state-of-the-art semi-active suspension of the Mustang GTD. Notable is how the car's in-cabin suspension window, which is also visible from outside the GTD, shows off its rear suspension like it's "jewelry." According to Ford, this cutting-edge semi-active suspension system is at all four corners of the vehicle. This system features a race-proven tubular subframe with a pushrod-actuated rear end. Ford states that the engineering company Multimatic created the GTD's Adaptive Spool Valve dampers. This creation aimed to "bring race car technology to the road" so that GTD drivers could have enhanced "agility and confidence" in challenging track driving circumstances. According to Ford, these Adaptive Spool Valve dampers can go from their softest to firmest setting in 15 milliseconds. Jim Owens, the marketing manager for the Mustang GTD, said of the rear suspension's aesthetic appeal, "The rear suspension is designed for purpose, but it's also just a beautiful thing to look at." Owens added that the window framing the GTD's suspension system is necessary, allowing anyone who sees the car to admire the rear suspension's beauty and performance. "It would have been a shame for us to hide it away, never to be seen. With the suspension window, owners can admire the blue and gold accents on the dampers without removing the tech panel, and the passenger can literally watch the suspension in action." Ford's decision to display the GTD's rear suspension system is a novel idea. The automaker equates the display window to a Skeleton dial, allowing people to observe and admire the inner workings of a "finely crafted precision timepiece." Owens added that the display window and what it reveals about the GTD's inner workings are "just plain cool." It's also a stylistic touch, which he believes GTD "owners will appreciate." Ford states that the GTD's picturesque display window measures about 24 inches wide and 10 inches tall and has a scratch-resistant coating on both sides. The automaker also specifies that they made the window out of polycarbonate. More than simply adding an aesthetic flourish to the latest edition of an iconic vehicle, the GTD's suspension system breaks new ground for a Mustang. According to the Mustang GTD's Chief Program Engineer, Greg Goodall, "We've never done a suspension like this on a Mustang." Goodall added that with Ford setting high expectations for the Mustang GTD's debut in Europe in the coming weeks, the vehicle's suspension needed to do things it has never done before: "To meet the aggressive lap time targets we set, we looked to motorsports for that inspiration to do something advanced. This cutting-edge suspension and advanced dampers are key to turning a Mustang into a Mustang GTD." The Mustang GTD will compete in June at the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans. Later this year, it will attempt an officially timed sub-seven-minute lap at Germany's iconic Nurburgring Nordschleife track. Racing technology played a significant role in shaping the GTD's innovative suspension setup. Instead of mounting the shocks and springs above and in line with the rear wheels, the GTD's inboard rear suspension tucks them low and between the wheels, just like you'd see on a purpose-built race car. Multimatic's proprietary Adaptive Spool Valve dampers take things even further, bringing serious motorsport engineering to the street. These dampers can shift from their softest to firmest setting in just 15 milliseconds — about six times faster than the blink of an eye. Each one features a dual-spring design. In Track mode, the system can hydraulically compress one of those springs, lowering the car by approximately 40 millimeters and doubling the spring rate to enhance its track-ready performance. That stiffer spring rate isn't just for show: it enhances both mechanical and aerodynamic grip. And when the GTD's active aero kicks in and starts pressing the car down at speed, those firmer springs fight aerodynamic squat, keeping the tires planted and maximizing grip through every corner, brake zone, and straight-line launch. [embed] The Mustang GTD isn't just a high-performance Mustang. It's a whole new chapter in the Mustang story. Ford went all in, blending serious race tech with jaw-dropping design to create something that feels fresh, bold, and totally exhilarating. That suspension window isn't just a cool detail; it's a full-on celebration of what makes this car so special. From the lightning-fast dampers to the aggressive aero and track-ready stance, every piece of the GTD screams performance. Whether it's tearing through the Nürburgring or stealing the spotlight at a car meet, this is more than just a Mustang. It's Ford showing off what they can really do, and we're absolutely here for it.

15 Richest Fictional Characters — How Much Would They Be Worth in Real Life?
You don't have to be real to be rich, and in today's tumultuous economy, living in fantasy is a lot less likely to lead to disappointment. For You: Try This: These 15 super-wealthy fictional characters from film, TV, books and games hold a wide variety of occupations ranging from superheroes to crime lords, but they all have one thing in common — a net worth in the billions. Occupation: King of Wakanda Estimated net worth: $90 trillion Character from: Marvel comics Marvel comic book character T'Challa reigns over the fictional African country of Wakanda, which is home to nearly all the world's reserves of Vibranium — a super-strong metal that, according to the comics, is the main component of Captain America's shield. This premium metal comes with a precious price tag, coming in at $10,000 per gram. No wonder everyone shares the sentiment 'Wakanda forever,' as it is home to 10,000 tons of Vibranium, putting the royal family's net worth in the trillions. Some estimates have Black Panther's personal wealth at just $500 billion, but either way, he's doing all right. Occupation: Mine and mill owner Estimated net worth: $65.4 billion Character from: 'Donald Duck' comics Penny-pinching Uncle Scrooge McDuck came from humble beginnings before amassing his fortune. McDuck's first job was shining shoes before he left his native Glasgow to dig for gold in the Klondike. After pulling himself up by his shiny bootstraps, he eventually started founding mines and mills that helped him build his billion-dollar fortune, which he was rare to share. McDuck famously stored his fortune in a giant money bin filled with gold coins, which not only helped out his tax situation, but also served as his daily cardio where he could swim laps. Consider This: Occupation: Plunderer Estimated net worth: $54.1 billion Character from: 'The Hobbit' Being a pillaging dragon has proved fruitful for Smaug, who appears in 'The Hobbit' book and movies. According to the novel, Smaug sleeps on a pile of gold and silver, has diamonds and other precious stones encrusted in his belly, and also owns the Arkenstone of Thrain, a giant diamond 'worth more than a river of gold in itself.' Basically, he's giving really, really rich vibes. Occupation: Business owner and inventor Net worth: $43.4 billion Character from: 'Iron Man' Marvel's Tony Stark inherited much of his wealth after his parents were killed in a car crash (which was actually an assassination), leaving him to run the successful firm Stark Industries. Though he wasn't a natural businessman, the company has been profitable thanks to the leadership of Virginia 'Pepper' Potts. However, much of Stark's net worth comes from his valuable inventions, investments and properties, including his Iron Man suits (worth $7 billion), Stark Tower, his J.A.R.V.I.S. computer program (worth $10 million), mansion (worth $25 million) and luxury cars. Occupation: Defense contractor Net worth: $36.2 billion Character from: 'Annie' Oliver 'Daddy' Warbucks is the owner of Warbucks Industries and a successful defense contractor, but you know, with a heart of gold. Even though Warbucks has donated much of his earnings to philanthropic causes at the urging of his adopted daughter Annie, the Iraq conflict caused a boom in his net worth, bringing it to $36.2 billion, so not such a hard-knock life after all. Occupation: Business owner Net worth: $31.3 billion Character from: 'Batman' The comic book hero better known as Batman, Bruce Wayne inherited his fortune when his parents were gunned down in front of him when he was only a kid. Wayne came to own Wayne Enterprises, which was worth $27.4 million at the time according to a Batman comic released in 1974, and grew its value significantly. The Dark Knight knows his way around a royal sum of money. Occupation: Shrimp sales/Investor Net worth: $27 billion Character from: 'Forrest Gump' Forrest Gump's business partner, Lieutenant Dan, had the foresight to invest profits from their shrimp boating sales into 'some kind of fruit company' — which turned out to be the very profitable Apple Inc. Gump is estimated to have put $100,000 (at the time 3% ownership) into the company when it went public in 1980, which at the $22 stock price would have given him about 4,545 shares. Occupation: Rich kid Net worth: $23.9 billion Character from: 'Richie Rich' Richie Rich is the only child of two incredibly wealthy parents who gave him everything he could ever want. Sadly, Rich's parents were killed in a plane crash orchestrated by the head of a rival company. Though this is usually the recipe to raise a nightmare human, he seems to spend his substantial fortune in stride. Occupation: Power plant owner Net worth: $10.4 billion Character from: 'The Simpsons' Mr. Burns owns and operates the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant on 'The Simpsons' and sometimes resorts to unsavory means to ensure profits, which is super rare for someone with his wealth or in his position of power (*sarcasm). While his business practices are (literally) shady, his financial outlook is 'excellent.' Occupation: Businessman Net worth: $10.1 billion Character from: DC Comics DC Comic villain and Superman archenemy Lex Luthor built his financial empire through business savvy, intelligence — and backstabbing and murder. What a relief, he's a fictional character. Luthor is the founder of LexCorp, a multinational conglomerate that has acquired many smaller businesses, including airlines, communications companies and banks. Occupation: Candy maker Net worth: $8.4 billion Character from: 'Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory' Willy Wonka is the owner of the greatest chocolate factory in the world, and though the factory was temporarily shuttered, Wonka managed to profitably reopen it after a lengthy hiatus. It helps not to focus on Wonka's engaging in some unethical business practices, namely his use of Oompa Loompas — who some posit were slaves — to manufacture his products, as this is just a rich guy in a children's story. Occupation: Crime lord Net worth: $8.4 billion Character from: 'Star Wars' Jabba the Hutt of 'Star Wars' fame gained his fortune through a life of crime. As a gangster and crime lord, Jabba secured wealth for his planet Tatooine by controlling piracy, slavery and the trafficking of illegal goods. Described as 'the wealthiest gangster in a hundred worlds,' Jabba lives in a palace and keeps a flesh-eating monster for entertainment. Occupation: Media baron Net worth: $5.8 billion Character from: 'Citizen Kane' The star of Orson Welles' 'Citizen Kane' used the inheritance from his family's gold mine to purchase the newspaper The New York Inquirer. Although the paper wasn't making money initially, Kane relied on yellow journalism, sensationalism and poaching talent from other papers to grow his into a successful business. A modern Kane likely would have expanded his holdings to include radio, television and movie studios. Occupation: Archaeologist Net worth: $1.3 billion Character from: 'Tomb Raider' franchise Lady Lara Croft is the Countess of Abbington and owns the Croft Estates, which include three separate manor houses. Croft inherited a fortune from her parents after their separate untimely deaths. Although she has family money, Croft has followed in her father's footsteps and works in the archaeology field — though many detractors question her methods. She has even been accused of stealing treasure from the sites she discovers, which is how she got the nickname 'Tomb Raider.' Occupation: Real estate investor Net worth: $1.2 billion Character from: Monopoly Mr. Monopoly, formerly known as Rich Uncle Pennybags, has several profitable real estate holdings in the Atlantic City, New Jersey area. You can tell the board game mascot has money by his fancy suit and top hat, which he is never seen without. He should also be paid, or at least get residual checks, for being the first mascot of capitalism. Gabrielle Olya contributed to the reporting for this article. Lexus IS 500 Climax Edition Marks End of V8 Compact Sedan
Lexus IS 500 Climax Edition Marks End of V8 Compact Sedan originally appeared on Autoblog. The last compact sedan with a V8 engine really is on its way out. After Mercedes-AMG killed the V8 in the C63, the Lexus IS 500 was the last sedan of this size to retain a V8, but it seems this characterful Lexus won't be around for much longer, both in America and beyond. A few weeks ago, Lexus announced the IS 500 Ultimate Edition, a run of just 500 models that will be sold in North America. Now, it's Japan's turn to say goodbye to this sedan with the IS 500 Climax Edition. As far as car names go, this one can be thrown into the same box as the Daihatsu Naked and Ford Probe. Awkward name aside, this special edition is likely to become something of a collector's item in the years ahead. View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article Much like our own Ultimate Edition, the Climax Edition will feature 19-inch forged BBS wheels in a sinister matte black finish. These partially conceal upgraded Brembo brakes with six-piston calipers. To match the black trim, special Neutrino Gray paint has been introduced for this model, which is inspired by neutrinos. If you also had no clue what those are, they're elementary particles produced in outer space, where they move at the speed of light. Eight other colors will be available for the Climax Edition, though. Inside, Lexus Japan has hilariously added several IS 500 'Climax Edition' plaques, not that anyone owning this car would forget what it's called. A red and black color scheme adds to the raunchy look, and even the analog clock in the center of the dashboard gets a new background. View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article Nothing has changed under the hood, not that it had to. Producing 472 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque, the rear-wheel-drive IS 500 can run from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds. That time is no longer earth-shattering, but it's accompanied by a soundtrack that no rival can match. Keep your foot planted, and the fastest IS will reach 149 mph. Paddle shifters can be used to take manual control over the eight-speed automatic transmission. In Japan, the IS 500 Climax Edition goes for 9,500,000 yen, which is equivalent to around $65,000. It's set to go on sale in August, and America's own Ultimate Edition will go on sale later this fall.
