Trust me, these viral bronzing drops are worth the hype

Independent27-02-2025

While some beauty trends on TikTok come and go ('cinnamon girl' make-up, anyone?), others prove they're well worth the hype. With more than 200 million views on the app and a reputation for rarely staying in stock, Drunk Elephant's D-bronzi bottle is a case in point.
Arguably, the internet's most famous bronzing drops, the skincare and make-up hybrid was launched in 2018. A short-wear alternative to face fake tan and a long-wear substitute for bronzer, the drops give skin an instantly bronzed finish.
Infused with nourishing ingredients like marula oil, blackcurrant seed oil, peptides and fatty acid, they're designed to be mixed with your daily moisturiser for a subtle tint or applied alone for a deeper glow.
As someone who's been fake tanning for nearly a decade, I've tried a lot of facial formulas, from gradual tanning drops to serums and moisturisers – but ever since Drunk Elephant's drops landed on my desk last year, I've used nothing else.
While gradual tanning formulas develop over a couple of hours and often have no guide colour for even application, Drunk Elephant's drops boast a helpful tinted colour that helps ensure a flawless finish. Plus, there's no commitment as the colour washes off easily at the end of the day.
How I tested
A loyal convert, I've used Drunk Elephant's bronzing drops most days since getting my hands on a coveted bottle. From application to skincare benefits and the final finish, I've been testing the product more than a year. Here's why you should buy into the Drunk Elephant D-bronzi hype.

Mom, 36, reveals she's left strangers stunned as they regularly mistake her and teenage daughter, 18, for sisters

A Scottish mother from Glasgow has gone viral as people often mistake her and her daughter for twins. Lisa Johnston said people were often 'gobsmacked' when they found out she was 36 and the mom of 18-year-old Alicia Johnston, whom she calls her 'built-in best friend'. She has claimed heads turn in public when Alicia calls her 'mom', adding that they often share clothes, make-up, shoes and even friends with one another. The mother-of-two regularly posts TikTok videos with Alicia, leaving social media users baffled. Lisa said: 'Everybody's a bit gobsmacked. We've been out a couple of times together at pubs and things like that and everybody can't believe it either. They're like, "What? Are you friends or sisters?". 'Someone once asked to see my ID because they couldn't believe it in one of the pubs we were at in town. We could be out doing a food shop or something and maybe Alicia will turn around and say "mom, can I get this?" 'And you see people turn around and look as if to say, "mom?". They're really confused.' Lisa added: 'People thought when I was picking Alicia up from school that it was her older sister. 'People were like, "you're picking your daughter up? What?". I used to just laugh it off. They say I look really young, it's quite nice actually, it's a confidence boost. It's nice to know that I've actually produced a mini me. A few people have said we're like 'copy and paste' of each other. 'The more Alicia is getting older, I can now see the big resemblance especially when we're doing the videos and things together. It is kind of like who's who?' Lisa said: 'Fitness and healthy eating is a big part of my lifestyle. I go to the gym five times a week. 'I just try not to get too stressed out. I take life as fun, we're all just living life. 'I don't get myself too riled up on anything, I think that's a big part as well. It really is like having a built-in best friend.' Lisa is also great pals with all of Alicia's friends, with the daughter adding: 'My friends love coming over because my mum is like a friend. They'll just chat away to her. 'There will be times where I'm minding my own business and I'll get a phone call and they're like, "I'm out with your mom right now". She's part of the friendship group. I'm never really bothered when people mistake us for sisters, I think it's funny. 'I would say this only started when I was about 15. I was just starting TikTok and me and mum were making TikTok videos together sometimes. 'As I got older and I looked more like my mum, people were like, "oh my God, you actually look so similar". 'We've basically got the same make-up routine and everything. So it's actually good sharing make-up shoes, hair products, everything.' Alicia and Lisa share the same love of looking glam, and the mom has even taken an eyelash course so she can do her daughter's lashes on a budget. Lisa said: 'I ended up showing Alicia how to do them as well so that was something that we do together. It was something I could pass down to her. 'I was like, "as they get older, the girls will want things done and their mom can do it instead of spending hundreds of pounds".' Social media users have been quick to share their confusion with some even questioning if they are really mother and daughter. One user said: 'That is not your mommy she looks in her 20s.' A second added: 'Nah both look as young as each other. Sisters definitely.'

Rita Ora slammed for 'blatant lie' in TikTok video as they call out huge blunder

Rita Ora released her latest single Heat earlier this month and a video about the new song on TikTok this week has attracted teasing comments from fans on the platform Fans have poked fun at Rita Ora after she shared footage of herself that was taken on a plane this week. Viewers have questioned a situation that she suggested had happened whilst on board the flight in the recent video message. The update from Rita, 34, comes after she released her latest song Heat earlier this month. She's been promoting the new single, which includes Troye Sivan among its songwriters, at recent performances, like during her set at Capital 's Summertime Ball 2025 last weekend. ‌ The singer-songwriter has also been posting about Heat on social media lately. It's included on TikTok, where she has more than 3 million followers. One of her posts about the song on the platform this week showed Rita sat on a plane. ‌ She teased that she had heard her new single being played by someone sat next to her on the flight. The video showed her reacting, with her writing over it: "Me: Hearing heat playing out of the person next to me's headphones." Rita's seen wearing a face mask at the start of the video, before removing it. Sporting headphones herself, she then lip syncs to Rihanna singing: "Uh oh! Boner alert!" The lyric is from the Lonely Island song Shy Ronnie 2: Ronnie & Clyde. The MTV Video Music Award winner wrote in the caption of the video that was uploaded to the platform just days ago: "He's definitely got good taste." She concluded the caption of her post with an emoji depicting a tongue. Fans didn't seem convinced that the situation had actually happened though. One person reacted: "Out of all the things that have never happened, this has never happened the most." Another said: "Girl that 100% did not happen." A third viewer teased: "You have a lovely imagination." Someone else said in their response to Rita's video: "Hey, let's be nice. Her headphones likely disconnected and she didn't understand the song was playing from her phone." ‌ Others pointed out that she was wearing headphones herself. One commented: "You heard it with your headphones on??" Another said: "She must have great hearing to be able to hear music from someone else's headphones while wearing headphones herself." Someone else suggested that her husband Taika Waititi may have been beside her on the flight. They teased: "It's your husband next to you." Several fans shared their amusement over the comments on the post. One wrote beside laughing emojis: "These comments are killing me." ‌ Rita's post has amassed more than 60,000 likes on the platform. It was followed-up by two other videos of her sat on board the flight, including one where she expressed gratitude to her supporters and teased it's "just the beginning". She wrote over footage of herself looking teary-eyed: "Flights make me emotional and grateful." In the caption, Rita added: "So grateful for all I have thank you to all the lovely people in my life and the ones who have supported me from the start - it's just the beginning." Then, in a third video taken on the flight, she shared "advice" for fans. The video showed her putting her middle finger up to the camera as she smiled. Over the clip, she wrote: "POV: nobody. Me: the F's I give." She added in the caption: "Bit of advice for anyone who doesn't match your energy or bring good vibes - protect your ORA."

'World's best theme park' is just hours away from UK but has no rides

If you are looking for an alternative holiday spot this summer, one woman has just the recommendation. Despite being named 'best theme park in the world' twice, Puy du Fou in the Pays de la Loire region of France remains a hidden gem to many. Travel expert Bonnie Rakhit posted a clip on TikTok showcasing her visit to what she claims is the country's "best kept secret." "It's without doubt the most magical theme park I have ever visited," she exclaimed. Just an hour's drive from Nantes, Bonnie suggests the site is the perfect quick getaway from the UK. So what makes this place so unique? "There are no rides here," says Bonnie. "Instead you go on a time-travelling adventure from Roman gladiators to Viking raids, and the legend of King Arthur to the splendour of the Palace of Versailles across 50 hectares of breathtaking scenery." Bonnie also notes that the park is home to 20 internationally acclaimed shows, providing an all-encompassing experience for the entire family. Each spectacle has been translated into English, with scripts accessible through the park's mobile app. "The magic doesn't stop at night," Bonnie added. "We stayed at Le Grand Siecle - a hotel inspired by Louis XIV's Court. There's also a medieval village, a Camelot-style tented camp, an ancient Roman town and a castle called the Citadel." Concluding her review, Bonnie said Puy Du Fou plays host to over 2.8million visitors annually. "It's easy to see why," she said. "It's inspiring and completely unique - this isn't just a theme park, it's a journey through time. Add it to your bucket list." Engaging with her post on TikTok, one fan raved: "I have been a few times and it is insane, seriously amazing. The Coliseum is crazy!" Another person remarked: "I love Puy de Fou, used to live in Nantes and went many times. The evening shows are amazing! Planet Sauvage is also fab and the best safari park I have ever seen." Whilst a third praised: "This is genuinely the best park I have ever been to! So incredible I would say Europa Park is good for rollercoasters (although i don't think it's the best one in Europe but it's nice) but Puy Du Fou is amazing for story telling! Like incredibly impressive!". According to the English language section of the Puy de Fou official website, prices for an overnight stay start from £63.38 per person. This not only includes entry to the park and all its spectacles but also an overnight hotel stay complete with breakfast (at either an on-site hotel or in partnership accommodations near Puy du Fou) and complimentary translation services for all attractions. For those looking to visit the park alone, tickets are available for one, two, or three-day adventures, kicking off at a modest £31.69 per person. The site further states: "The Puy du Fou experience is designed for all ages to enjoy. Children and parents alike will be captivated all the way through as the shows are short and feature many amazing effects. "The few scenes that may alarm very young children due to their spectacular realism are indicated by a symbol in the mobile app and Visitor Guide."
