UFC Kansas City Results, Bonuses, Highlights And Reactions
Ian Machado Garry dominated the first three rounds of the main event against Carlos Prates on Saturday night in Kansas City but had to hold on for the last two rounds to secure a unanimous decision victory.
Garry snapped Prates' win streak and that of the dominant Fighting Nerds fight camp with a masterful game plan and nearly impeccable execution.
Prates had an opportunity to get the comeback victory in the fifth round, but he simply ran out of gas. He didn't have the wind to take advantage of Garry, who was partly tired and buzzed from one of the Brazilian's left hooks.

With the win, Garry moves closer to a title opportunity while Prates wasn't exposed, but his aura of invincibility was broken down.
In the co-main event, Zhang Mingyang proved to be the ultimate party pooper. The Chinese KO artist seemed to take great pleasure in ruining Anthony Smith's retirement fight with a first-round TKO win.
It wasn't even close. Mingyang took the center of the Octagon from the beginning, landed hard leg kicks, and opened a nasty gash on Smith's forehead with a step-in elbow.
The blood was dripping in Smith's eyes and wound up being the beginning of the end. By the time the fight was over, a defeated Smith was sitting in a pool of his own blood.
The UFC gave Smith a touching video package, but it was clear after the fight that the veteran made the right decision.

NEW YORK—Fans clamoring for Alex Pereira to move to heavyweight are going to have to wait a bit longer. Pereira dropped the UFC light heavyweight title to Magomed Ankalaev in the main event of UFC 313 in March. With the heavyweight division up in the air, Jon Jones saying multiple times he's not interested in fighting right now, and interim champ Tom Aspinall looking for an opponent, 'Poatan' would be a popular choice to flip one of the UFC's thinner divisions upside down. Advertisement That time is not now, however, as Pereira has his sights set on a fall return to avenge his loss to Ankalaev. 'Anywhere around the timeframe [of] September, October, November, for me it makes no difference, I want to fight,' Pereira told MMA Fighting at Fanatics Fest. 'My focus right now is fighting Ankalaev... get my belt back, and then we see what happens after.' Pereira has accomplished so much in so little time that the opportunity to win a third divisional title seems like a reasonable goal and request. Right now, Pereira hopes the heavyweight division can get moving again in an entertaining way, but he has his own boxes to check. Aside from one of his losses coming by injury, Fiziev had a quiet argument for winning his first encounter with Justin Gaethje before being booked for a senseless rematch on short notice with "The Highlight" after an extended layoff due to said injury. To Fiziev's credit, he showed noted efforts of improvement in his last fight with Gaethje from both pacing and grappling perspectives – which could come in handy against Bahamondes. I've been a big fan of Bahamondes and his improvements when it comes to both counterstriking and counter-grappling. That said, I'm not sure he can count on commanding the grappling exchanges with a national champion in combat sambo like Fiziev. I also suspect that Fiziev's speed, bodywork and ability to counter in combination will also provide problems for Bahamondes from a stylistic perspective. It's a dangerous fight for Fiziev, but I'll officially side with him to either stop Bahamondes with a body kick or beat him on the scorecards. Former ESPN host unleashes scathing Stephen A. Smith attack
Former ESPN host Jason Fitz didn't like Stephen A. Smith's comments about Memphis — and called him out for it. Fitz, who worked on ESPN's digital side and the radio, claimed that Smith is often unprepared during an appearance during an appearance on 92.9 ESPN in Memphis on Tuesday following the 'First Take' host's controversial comments on the Tennessee city. Smith said on the show that while Memphis is a great sports town some NBA starts don't feel safe there., 'But there's an element there where cats like Jimmy Butler and others don't feel it's the safest environment. I'm talking to the local authorities in Memphis,' Smith said. 'You've got to clean some of that stuff up because it's dissuasive to NBA players. They have talked about it. I know. They've told me.' Fitz responded by calling out Smith's preparedness.
