Trump toy tariffs: Supreme Court won't speed decision on challenge

The company, which makes educational toys, won a court ruling on May 29 that Trump cannot unilaterally impose tariffs using the emergency legal authority he had cited for them. That ruling is currently on hold, leaving the tariffs in place for now.
Learning Resources asked the Supreme Court to take the rare step of immediately hearing the case to decide the legality of the tariffs, effectively leapfrogging the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in Washington, where the case is pending.

Two district courts have ruled that Trump's tariffs are not justified under the law he cited for them, the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. Both of those cases are on appeal. No court has yet backed the sweeping emergency tariff authority Trump has claimed.

Trump claims Iran could have nuclear weapon in ‘weeks'

President Donald Trump claimed Iran could produce a nuclear weapon within weeks or months, offering no evidence to support this assertion. Trump 's claims directly contradicted his Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, who testified under oath that the Intelligence Community assesses Iran is not building a nuclear weapon. Gabbard acknowledged that Iran 's stockpile of weapons-grade uranium was at unprecedented levels for a state without nuclear weapons, but maintained Iran 's Supreme Leader had not authorized a nuclear program since 2003. Trump dismissed Gabbard's sworn testimony as incorrect and indicated he had approved a plan for potential airstrikes on Iran 's Fordow enrichment facility. Trump issued a 14-day deadline for negotiations with Tehran, while Iran 's Foreign Minister stated no talks would occur during ongoing Israeli attacks and refused to discuss Iran 's ballistic missile program.

Pakistan says it will nominate Donald Trump for Nobel Peace Prize for resolving its conflict with India

Pakistan has said it would recommend Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in helping to resolve the recent conflict between India and Pakistan. Some analysts in Pakistan have suggested the move might persuade the US president to reconsider potentially joining Israel in striking Iran's nuclear facilities. Pakistan has condemned Israel's attack on Iran as a violation of international law and said it threatens regional stability. 1:57 Last month a surprise announcement by Mr Trump of a ceasefire brought an end to a four-day conflict between India and Pakistan, two nuclear-armed states. The US president has repeatedly boasted of averting a nuclear war and saving millions of lives, and has complained about not getting enough credit. While Pakistan agrees US diplomatic intervention brought the fighting to an end, India has disputed that, saying it was a bilateral agreement between the two militaries. "President Trump demonstrated great strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship through robust diplomatic engagement with both Islamabad and New Delhi, which de-escalated a rapidly deteriorating situation," Pakistan said. "This intervention stands as a testament to his role as a genuine peacemaker." Mr Trump has long craved the Nobel Peace Prize, claiming he should have been awarded it for a variety of reasons. In a post on his Truth Social platform on Friday, the president gave a long list of conflicts he claimed he had resolved, including Pakistan and India and the Abraham accords in his first term between Israel and some Muslim-majority countries. "I won't get a Nobel Peace Prize no matter what I do," he added. Pakistan's announcement it would nominate Mr Trump comes in the same week as its army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, met the US president for lunch.

Ayatollah Khamenei hides in his bunker as paranoia stalks Iran

W hen Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader, addressed the nation in a video recording this week, he sat before a brown curtain of a sort that could be found in any number of homes in Iran. That was the point — which home it was is meant to be a closely guarded secret. But both President Trump and Israel say they know where Khamenei is hiding. 'He is an easy target, but is safe there. We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now,' Trump said. It would normally be a boast that would leave his intelligence agencies looking askance. Intelligence officers, by force of habit, do not like to disclose what they know. Some years ago a confidant of Ayman al-Zawahiri, then the leader of al-Qaeda, spread a rumour that he had died.
