More than 200 customers made the trip from Chicago (ORD) to Los Angeles (LAX) today aboard American Airlines' new Boeing 787-9. The plane's takeoff marked the start of a new chapter in the company's aviation history.
The flight coincided with the launch of American's new international and domestic summer travel routes.
"We're excited that you are part of the beginning of this plane's journey," American's Chief Customer Officer Heather Garboden said in a note to passengers on Flight 2012. "Everything you see on board today was designed with you in mind: from the design details to Bluetooth connectivity to state-of-the-art entertainment, your comfort is our priority."
The plane seats 244 passengers. It features American's redesigned Main Cabin and reimagined Premium Economy cabins, which are designed to deliver a more premium experience to passengers.

In the Main Cabin, there are 4K monitors with Bluetooth connectivity and USB Type-C and AC power ports at every one of the 161 seats. Premium Economy's 32 passengers get that plus a privacy headrest with wings, adjustable calf and footrests, wireless charging and water bottle storage.
Fifty-one Flagship Suite seats are available on the plane. They offer personal storage space, a wireless charging pad, privacy door, chaise lounge feature, reading light mirror and trinket tray. Booking one of these seats also gets you additional perks like Priority check-in, security, boarding and baggage handling. International flyers also get access to American's Flagship lounge and a multi-course meal, pillow and duvet blanket.
Flagship Suite Preferred seats build on the Flagship Suite offers with 19 percent more bed space and 42 percent more living area. There are just eight of those seats available.

Brandon Blackwood amenity kits will be available through early September for passengers in several fare classes. Flagship First and Flagship Suite Preferred customers receive a compact travel version of Blackwood's trademark Portmore handbag, made of denim and with a wraparound zip closure.

"Nobody wants to be left with a load of stock you can't shift," he said. "So it shows to a certain extent a lack of confidence in their own product because if they believed in it, they would go into overproduction or a greater production line. "It shows they're still unsure about the very thing that would seem to be quite successful. "Anyone with a rudimentary understanding of supply and demand would think they are surprised by their success." Afua Hagan, a U.K.-based royal expert, told Newsweek: "It's a good thing for her because obviously people love what she's selling and love what she has on offer. "But I think she needs to up the inventory because obviously you don't want everything to sell out really quickly. You want more people to be able to have it and maybe she's underestimated how popular her products would be. "Obviously, you're scaling as a business and still trying to start small and work her way into a big inventory but I think she does need to do that because obviously the products are so popular." And Nick Ede, a U.K.-based brand and culture expert, told Newsweek: "Obviously they've said they increased the inventory 10 times, but you wonder how large that inventory actually was. "You actually want to, as a customer, as a consumer, go onto a website and feel you can buy the product. "That spin of it's sold out and there's a demand for it becomes a bit obsolete because people want it there and then. We're in a world now where we can go onto Amazon and get something delivered the next morning that we've just purchased. "I think they need to get it right. If they do it a third time I would have a real issue." What Meghan told 'Aspire With Emma Grede' Podcast Meghan's first batch of As Ever products sold out in minutes on April 2 and as recently as last week Meghan indicated she had "exponentially increased" supply to avoid a repeat. She told the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast, which dropped on June 17: "I knew that I had a decision to make which came down to, what is our timeline to be able to restock these products that we had? "Well, we can restock what we had at those same quantities but then I'll have another sell out and I don't want that for people. "I think scarcity is great if it happens organically at the onset but at a certain point, even being consumer-minded, I would be fatigued if that kept happening and I was going to a website. "So I said, 'OK, let's take this opportunity to grow, to have exponentially more skews as well as more inventory.' "And that's what we've been doing right back to making sure we could scale up to that level and have the quality meet the quantity which was very key." Obviously, selling out is not all bad, though, and the As Ever account celebrated on Instagram: "Cheers, dears! Wishing you a wonderful weekend! You've certainly made ours wonderful. We sold "Sign up to be the first to order our debut As ever Napa Valley Rosé July 1st at 8 a.m. PT." Analysis The question of whether selling out is good or bad is a complicated one. On the one hand, a major brand like Nike might consider it a good thing to rapidly sell out a new line, creating buzz and a sense of exclusivity. On the other hand, major brands have numerous existing lines available for anyone content to simply buy another of their products. It would, in that sense, be inconceivable for a company like Nike to, like As Ever, go two-and-a-half months with nothing on sale. Meghan appears to have started with a stall at a farmer's market where her children sell produce and gradually, in stages, realized the need to do something far bigger. She told Grede: "I went from [being] about to onboard a CEO and a small team to having Netflix as my partner. "That takes it to a completely different level and goes very far beyond my ideas of 'oh I can sell locally, I could maybe be at a farmers' market,' I thought that would be cute." And the farmers' market was not a throw away idea. In fact, Meghan later said she and Prince Harry do have a stall at a farmer's market where their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet sell their homegrown vegetables in order to learn about money. She told the podcast: "So, you start from seed and you watch it grow and they [Archie and Lilibet] wait but with that it's like, 'now do you want to sell your harvest and do you want to share it with our community and also what do you want to do with those funds once you have them?'" In other words, the idea has already gone through at least four concepts: a stall at a farmers' market, a small team with a CEO, the version that launched with Netflix as a partner in April and now the "exponentially increased" supply which also sold out in minutes. The time may have come for Meghan to see where the business is actually headed in the long term and get it to that destination before it loses momentum. George Clooney sold his Casamigos tequila business for $1 billion in 2017, showing there is money to be made for stars who can shift product. Borkowski said Meghan's comments about not wanting to sell out in minutes days before she did just that showed "a certain amount of naivety," though he also acknowledged increasing supply might not be as straightforward as it sounds. "What is this business?" He said. "If this business is from her own land it will only have a limited amount of product to supply that global demand. "So, therefore, if she was to get involved in another supply chain, would that supply chain have the same credentials? "And would we be picking over it to say it's another complete and utter farce and it becomes another stick to attack her with." Meghan also acknowledged that issue when she described "making sure we could scale up to that level and have the quality meet the quantity." GOP tax bill would ease regulations on gun silencers and some rifles and shotguns
WASHINGTON — The massive tax and spending cuts package that President Trump wants on his desk by July 4 would loosen regulations on gun silencers and certain types of rifles and shotguns, advancing a longtime priority of the gun industry as Republican leaders in the House and Senate try to win enough votes to pass the bill. The guns provision was first requested in the House by Georgia Rep. Andrew Clyde, a Republican gun store owner who had initially opposed the larger tax package. The House bill would remove silencers — called 'suppressors' by the gun industry — from a 1930s law that regulates firearms that are considered the most dangerous, eliminating a $200 tax while removing a layer of background checks. The Senate kept the provision on silencers in its version of the bill and expanded upon it, adding short-barreled, or sawed-off, rifles and shotguns. Republicans who have long supported the changes, along with the gun industry, say the tax infringes on Second Amendment rights. They say silencers are mostly used by hunters and target shooters for sport. 'Burdensome regulations and unconstitutional taxes shouldn't stand in the way of protecting American gun owners' hearing,' said Clyde, who owns two gun stores in Georgia and often wears a pin shaped like an assault rifle on his suit lapel. Democrats are fighting to stop the provision, which was unveiled days after two Minnesota state legislators were shot in their homes, as the bill speeds through the Senate. They argue that loosening regulations on silencers could make it easier for criminals and active shooters to conceal their weapons. 'Parents don't want silencers on their streets, police don't want silencers on their streets,' said Senate Democratic leader Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y. The gun language has broad support among Republicans and has received little attention as House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., work to settle differences within the party on cuts to Medicaid and energy tax credits, among other issues. But it is just one of hundreds of policy and spending items included to entice members to vote for the legislation that could have broad implications if the bill is enacted within weeks, as Trump wants. Inclusion of the provision is also a sharp turn from the climate in Washington just three years ago when Democrats, like Republicans now, controlled Congress and the White House and pushed through bipartisan gun legislation. The bill increased background checks for some buyers under the age of 21, made it easier to take firearms from potentially dangerous people and sent millions of dollars to mental health services in schools. Passed in the summer of 2022, just weeks after the shooting of 19 children and two adults at a school in Uvalde, Texas, it was the most significant legislative response to gun violence in decades. Three years later, as they try to take advantage of their consolidated power in Washington, Republicans are packing as many of their longtime priorities as possible, including the gun legislation, into the massive, wide-ranging bill that Trump has called 'beautiful.' 'I'm glad the Senate is joining the House to stand up for the Second Amendment and our Constitution, and I will continue to fight for these priorities as the Senate works to pass President Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill,' said Texas Sen. John Cornyn, who was one of the lead negotiators on the bipartisan gun bill in 2022 but is now facing a primary challenge from the right in his bid for reelection next year. If the gun provisions remain in the larger legislation and it is passed, silencers and the short-barrel rifles and shotguns would lose an extra layer of regulation that they are subject to under the National Firearms Act, passed in the 1930s in response to concerns about mafia violence. They would still be subject to the same regulations that apply to most other guns — and that includes possible loopholes that allow some gun buyers to avoid background checks when guns are sold privately or online. Larry Keane of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, who supports the legislation, says changes are aimed at helping target shooters and hunters protect their hearing. He argues that the use of silencers in violent crimes is rare. 'All it's ever intended to do is to reduce the report of the firearm to hearing safe levels,' Keane says. Speaking on the floor before the bill passed the House, Rep. Clyde said the bill restores Second Amendment rights from 'over 90 years of draconian taxes.' Clyde said Johnson included his legislation in the larger bill 'with the purest of motive.' 'Who asked for it? I asked,' said Clyde, who ultimately voted for the bill after the gun silencer provision was added. Clyde was responding to Rep. Maxwell Frost, a 28-year-old Florida Democrat, who went to the floor and demanded to know who was responsible for the gun provision. Frost, who was a gun-control activist before being elected to Congress, called himself a member of the 'mass shooting generation' and said the bill would help 'gun manufacturers make more money off the death of children and our people.' Among other concerns, control advocates say less regulation for silencers could make it harder for law enforcement to stop an active shooter. 'There's a reason silencers have been regulated for nearly a century: They make it much harder for law enforcement and bystanders to react quickly to gunshots,' said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. Schumer and other Democrats are trying to convince the Senate parliamentarian to drop the language as she reviews the bill for policy provisions that aren't budget-related. 'Senate Democrats will fight this provision at the parliamentary level and every other level with everything we've got,' Schumer said earlier this month. Jalonick writes for the Associated Press.
