Fire rages in Southern Calif. months after destructive blaze in San Bernardino County

Crews are racing to contain and extinguish a wildfire that broke out in Southern California on Tuesday, exploding in size in a matter of hours and forcing people to flee their homes.
According to CAL FIRE, the Ranch Fire broke out near Apple Valley in San Bernardino County just after 2:30 p.m. local time on Tuesday.
The blaze was initially reported to be about 80 acres but quickly grew.
In a matter of about four hours, the Ranch Fire had grown to 2,000 acres and then doubled in size to more than 4,200 acres by Tuesday night.

The Ranch Fire, as of Wednesday afternoon, is 10% contained and the cause is under investigation.
Evacuations have been ordered in the area, with people and their pets living in the area of Milpas Drive to High Road, south of Highway 18, told to flee for safety.
Evacuation centers have been set up for evacuated residents at the Sitting Bull Academy on Sitting Bull Road in Apple Valley, while the Victorville Fairgrounds in Victorville are being opened up to shelter large animals.

Fire rages months after Line Fire
This latest wildfire in San Bernardino County comes months after the destructive Line Fire scorched nearly 44,000 acres back in September 2024.
Tens of thousands of structures had been threatened by the Line Fire, while heroic efforts to contain and extinguish that blaze took weeks.

A two-hour time-lapse video showed flames from the Line Fire surrounding a camera, with the video surviving about an hour in the middle of the inferno until the camera feed cut out.
No deaths were reported, but at least six firefighters were injured while battling the fire.
Arson was determined as the cause of the fire, and on Sept. 10, a 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of starting the blaze in Highland, California, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said.

Ranch Place Fire in South Bay fully contained after burning nearly 100 acres

Camino Fire near Don Pedro Reservoir in Tuolumne County burns 100 acres
Cal Fire said a 100-acre wildfire is burning at a dangerous rate near Don Pedro Reservoir in Tuolumne County. According to Cal Fire's incident page, the Camino Fire started around 12:20 p.m. on the western side of the reservoir. The Tuloumne County Sheriff's Office said the fire is near Camino Road in the La Grange and Don Pedro roads area. "If you live in the area and do not feel safe, please leave, do not wait to be told to evacuate," the sheriff's office said. No evacuations have been issued at this time. Check back for updates.

Fire at Natural Bridges State Park in Santa Cruz sparked by cooking, firefighters say
A vegetation fire sparked by cooking at Natural Bridges State Park on Thursday afternoon led to evacuations and briefly threatened the park's visitors center, firefighters said. Shortly before 3:30 p.m., Santa Cruz Fire Department, Cal Fire and other agencies responded to the park located near the ocean and West Cliff Drive. Firefighters received reports of 30-foot flames in the eucalyptus trees. Crews with the first firefighting unit reported a 100' by 50' vegetation fire in grass and eucalyptus trees. The fire was "moving at a rapid rate of spread" and was threatening the Natural Bridges Visitor Center. Firefighters deployed hoses and hand crews cut lines to prevent further spread of the fire. As crews from other fire agencies arrived, a second fire was reported east of the original fire in what was described as a "sensitive area of vegetation." The second fire was quickly contained with the help of a Cal Fire helicopter crew.
