Capital Governor praises TEC's waterfront efforts
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 24: The Tourism Enterprises Company (TEC) has launched the second phase of the waterfront beautification project, extending over a distance of five kilometers from the Green Island to the Yacht Club in Salmiya. This coincided with the National Day and Liberation Day celebrations. Present at the launching ceremony were sponsor of the ceremony and Capital Governor Sheikh Abdullah Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of TEC Hamoud Jassim Al-Falah, acting Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Hassan Al-Jaafar, and representatives of TEC and the companies investing along the waterfront. Meanwhile, Sheikh Abdullah Salem Al- Ali Al-Sabah praised the Waterfront Project (Phase Two); stressing that it will boost the local economy by attracting tourists in general. He disclosed there is follow up and anticipation of the development projects that are being implemented until 2035, while a package of future projects will be launched soon. He affirmed that the Waterfront Project is distinguished by its support for sports activities in Kuwait City, as it provides the infrastructure for those wishing to engage in various sports. Al-Falah pointed out that the opening of the second phase of the waterfront project reflects the company's commitment to implementing tourism and entertainment projects in line with the aspirations of citizens, expatriates and visitors.
'We are working hard to enhance Kuwait's position as a distinguished tourist destination by developing integrated and modern facilities that meet everyone's needs, in line with Kuwait Vision 2035,' he revealed. He added that the project contributes to supporting the local economy by attracting more visitors and activating the hospitality and services sector, as well as providing promising investment opportunities for local and international institutions. He said the project represents a qualitative addition to the tourism scene in Kuwait, as 'we were keen to design the second phase under the highest standards of sustainability and quality. Environmental and sustainability elements were taken into account in all stages of implementation, starting from the use of clean energy to the adoption of modern technologies in managing facilities and infrastructure.' Operations Manager of TEC Eng. Sami Al-Zanki stated that the second phase of the marine destination project, which extends for about 10 kilometers, includes entertainment services, operational services like restaurants, and facilities that serve all segments of Kuwaiti society. He confirmed that TEC aims to develop tourist and entertainment places and facilities for entertainment and domestic tourism. He added that 'after this phase, we have a direction to develop and renovate marine clubs along the marine destination, such as the Marine Yacht Club, People's Marine Club, and Swimming Pools Complex.
These projects will be a qualitative shift for TEC in its future projects and will be developed by the private sector over the next four years.' He affirmed the project has been completed 100 percent and some comments have been submitted to the contractor to fulfill them, explaining that there is about a year to address these comments and that the project was received on February 2022 at an estimated cost of KD 14.700 million. Project Engineer Mohammad Al-Mughmas stressed that the project was implemented according to designs that facilitate the public's access to walking areas and various sports. He said the project facilitated all means for people of determination and people with special needs -- parking lots or special paths for them. He added that the waterfront project was designed according to the highest specifications and standards, explaining that the project is divided into two phases -- the first from Kuwait Towers to Green Island and the second from Green Island to the Yacht Club. He disclosed that the first phase was opened in February 2024, followed by the second phase in February 2025. It is worth noting that the waterfront is one of the most prominent tourist and entertainment destinations in the State of Kuwait and is divided into two phases: the first phase starts from the Kuwait Towers to the Green Island and was opened in February 2024, and the second phase starts from the Green Island to the People's Mosque.
The project also includes 12.4 kilometers of jogging tracks and dedicated bicycle path extending 15.4 km along the waterfront. The company paid special attention to sustainability elements, as it replaced all traditional lighting poles with solar-powered ones and added 40 electric car charging stations from the famous Dutch brand ALFEN, distributed in strategic locations within the project, in addition to renovating 4,000 parking spaces, which contributes to facilitating access and providing a comfortable and convenient experience for all visitors. TEC worked hard to rehabilitate the beaches as multi-use spaces to host events throughout the year, as well as reviving the natural landscape in the area by removing the Conacarpus trees that are harmful to the infrastructure and replacing them with new trees and plants that are suitable for the climate of the State of Kuwait. It added distinctive artistic touches to the waterfront, including artworks that refl ect Kuwait's culture and ecosystem, in addition to installing dedicated benches, columns, barriers and signage throughout the site. The project also includes models of ships inspired by Japanese art (origami) in the shape of the Kuwaiti currency, while displaying the name 'Kuwait' in both Arabic and English

KUWAIT CITY, June 22: While the ongoing Israeli-Iranian war has led to a rise in the price of crude oil, several parties expect oil prices to reach $100 if the war escalates and the Strait of Hormuz is closed, but this possibility was ruled out by the experts that the newspaper interviewed recently. Economic expert Salah Al- Jimaz said it is in Iran's interest to continue the passage of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz; considering its closure will cause a huge financial loss for Iran, because its tankers pass through the Strait, especially after its oil production in the first quarter of this year reached 3.5 million barrels per day. He pointed out that it is difficult for Iran to sacrifice these revenues, particularly since the current war has cost and will continue to cost it a great deal from the State treasury, and it may suffer an economic decline for several years as a result of the war. He thinks the Iranian-Israeli war could raise oil prices to more than $100 per barrel if Israel targets strategic oil sites or Iranian refineries, or if the Strait of Hormuz is closed. 'However, realistically, Israel and Iran do not want this war to take on economic dimensions that could impact the oil commodity and its prices, because the victims will not only be Iran or Israel, but all other countries throughout the world. If Israel targets Iranian oil sites, this will be a provocation of the entire world,' he explained. He advised the Kuwaiti oil sector to expand oil storage projects near countries that primarily import Kuwaiti oil, especially since the sector has numerous previous experiences in this regard. He stated that in April, the country exported the first shipment of Kuwaiti oil to South Korea under a previous agreement between Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) and Korea National Oil Company, allowing the storage of four million barrels of Kuwaiti oil. Moreover, economic expert and former advisor to Chevron Dr. Ali Al- Hababi revealed that oil prices have been gradually rising since the beginning of the Iran-Israel war. He stressed the need to take all precautions in light of the war. He warned that attacking the Iranian Bushehr reactor located in Bandar Abbas, which is overlooking the Gulf, will lead to extremely dangerous water pollution, especially since Kuwait and the rest of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries depend on its water. He underscored the importance of expanding Kuwaiti storage facilities, in cooperation with the private sector, to ensure adequate water and food supplies for use in such hot conditions. He called on the oil sector to take all the necessary measures if the Strait of Hormuz is closed, as such closure will halt Kuwaiti oil supplies to Asian countries. He added the Red Sea is not safe as well, indicating the regional developments will inevitably lead to a huge increase in oil prices as a result of the dependence of most countries -- including Europe -- on Gulf oil. He cited as evidence the role of Saudi Arabia in the 1973 War when King Faisal made his historic decision to ban the export of oil in the heat of that war, which led to the cessation of the use of cars in Europe and made the residents of European countries return to riding bicycles.

Green urban initiative on Kuwait's Second Ring Road first of many to come: Ahmadi Governor
KUWAIT: Kuwait has unveiled the results of its first green urban development initiative under the Green Urban Development Initiatives Committee, with a beautification and planting project along sections of the Second Ring Road. 'This marks the beginning of our committee's work,' said Sheikh Humoud Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Governor of Ahmadi and Chairman of the committee, during an inspection tour of the project on Saturday. 'Similar initiatives will follow across various locations throughout Kuwait.' The beautification project, proposed by engineer Haifa Al-Muhanna and generously funded by residents of Shuwaikh residential area and surrounding neighborhoods, aims to transform a heavily trafficked stretch of roadway into a visually appealing and environmentally friendly space. 'This is nothing new for the Kuwaiti people,' Sheikh Hammoud said, praising the spirit of community engagement. 'We invite all those interested in contributing to greening and beautification efforts in all governorates to visit the committee's website or our accounts on X and Instagram (@gudikuwait). Imported palm trees The first and second phases of the Second Ring Road beutification initiative began on April 14 and continued for three months. The project included the planting of thousands of hardy plants adapted to Kuwait's climate. The palm trees were especially imported with uniform heights to maintain visual harmony. A full irrigation network was also installed to ensure sustainability. 'The palm trees used in the project are non-fruiting to make maintenance easier along major roads,' Al-Muhanna explained. 'We also enhanced the soil quality to support the long-term health and appearance of the plantings.' Ministers assure key essentials abundant, call to avoid hoarding
KUWAIT: Minister of Social Affairs Amthal Al-Huwailah and Minister of Commerce and Industry Khalifa Al-Ajeel hold a meeting to follow up on the readiness of cooperative societies and stocks of goods. - KUNA KUWAIT: The ministers of social affairs and commerce and industry on Thursday reiterated that essential commodities are available in large quantities and called on the public not to hoard food products. Amthal Al-Huwailah and Khalifa Al-Ajeel said after a meeting to assess the situation and coordination between the two ministries that 'the strategic stock of essential and basic commodities is available in sufficient quantities and that coordination between the two ministries is ongoing to ensure its continuous availability'. The two sides called on citizens and residents not to stock foodstuff or hoard them at home to avoid the risk of spoilage or improper storage, adding there is nothing to worry about as commodities are available for all. The meeting was held within the framework of activating the national contingency plan and assessing field inspections and visits to cooperative societies to ensure their complete readiness amid an intensification in the fighting between neighboring Iran and the Zionist entity. The two ministers also called on local companies and factories to accord priority in supplies to cooperative societies because they are concerned with providing and distributing foodstuff and other commodities, adding that cooperative societies work around the clock to guarantee stability in the market and meet people's dmands. Since the outbreak of hostilities, almost all ministries and departments have been making necessary preparations to ensure that the country is not affected by the fallout of the war. Meanwhile, the supreme commission for citizenship announced on Thursday that it has recommended revoking the Kuwaiti citizenship of several people, but did not release the exact number. The commission however said the revocations were due to holding third-country citizenship, obtaining citizenship by fraud and for the sake of the country's interests. Kuwait has so far revoked the citizenship of over 37,000 Kuwaitis, most of them foreign women who were naturalized after getting married to Kuwaiti men. The commission's decision becomes effective after its approval by the Cabinet.
