LeBron James treated sports fans to a special event in New York City on Saturday. At Fanatics Fest, which was held at the Javitz Center, he hosted live versions of "The Shop" and the "Mind the Game" podcast.
For "The Shop," he was joined on stage by legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady. Brady retired following the 2022 season, and he is considered by most to be the greatest player, or at least the greatest QB, in the history of football.
Brady appeared to glaze James a bit when he referred to the Los Angeles Lakers superstar as "the greatest ever."
'You're witnessing the greatest ever and I hope you all appreciate that,' Brady said.
The debate about where exactly James belongs on the list of the greatest players in NBA history rages on, but his accomplishments speak for themselves. He became the league's all-time leading career scorer two years ago and is now at 42,184 regular-season points and 50,473 points in the regular season and playoffs combined.
He has won four NBA championships (although he has lost six times in the NBA Finals), has won four league MVP awards and is one of a handful of players who have at least one scoring title and one assists title.
James has a player option for next season. The 40-year-old is expected to play at least one more season in the league, and what he does beyond that is anyone's best guess at this point.

Brady played in a league that focused on the passing game, while Montana played when the running game was a much bigger focus than it has become today. Throughout his NFL career, Brady played in 335 games. He completed 64.3 percent of his passes for 89,214 yards, 649 touchdowns, and 212 interceptions. It also helps that Udoka is quite familiar with Durant's skill set and work ethic; Udoka was an assistant coach on the Brooklyn Nets in 2020-21, when Durant was a member of the team. He's 23 and can jump out of the gym. But he's a streaky scorer who will need to develop his jump shot. Alongside Devin Booker, 28, Phoenix has a pretty formidable, young backcourt, albeit one in which both players thrive with the ball in their hands. Advertisement Bradley Beal, a player who struggled significantly this past season, is under contract for the next two seasons and has a no-trade clause. At $110.8 million over the next two seasons, moving Beal will be difficult. Dillion Brooks is a more naturally a shooting guard, though he can play small forward. In April 2024, Phoenix also signed Grayson Allen to a four-year extension. That's too much salary invested in too many guards. The Suns should explore a supplementary trade to offload some of them elsewhere — especially since they did not recoup the haul they sent to Brooklyn to land Durant two years ago. The Miami Heat strike out again According to ESPN, the Rockets and Heat were the two finalists for Durant. But Miami, which has been linked to numerous stars over the past several seasons, failed once more to take a swing and land a difference maker who can elevate the franchise to serious contention for a title. After trading away Jimmy Butler in February, Miami struggled down the stretch. ESPN reported that Miami declined to include some of its younger talent and the No. 20 overall pick in the 2025 draft in a potential deal for Durant. Advertisement Heat president Pat Riley has a reputation for being firm in expecting deals executed at a cost favorable to his team. In a vacuum, that's sound strategy. But the counterargument is that Miami is overvaluing its assets, leaving the roster littered with average players. Realistically, a trade for a soon-to-be-37 Durant was always going to be a gamble for a Heat team that is further away from a championship window than Houston. But by sitting on their hands, the Heat, absent a significant move to upgrade the roster, are resigned to competing for the play-in window. "Definitely don't want to rule anything out because we're always open-minded to onboarding and acquiring quality players and people like him if we're able to do that," McVay said, "but there would be some obstacles that are real that are in the place of maybe preventing that from occurring." One of the most notable obstacles may be Ramsey's three-year, $72.3 million extension that he with the Dolphins ahead of the 2024 NFL season and runs through 2028. According to the contract comes with a $16.7 million cap hit in 2025 and grows each year: $25 million in 2026, $26.8 million in 2027 and $36.2 in 2028. Ramsey, 30, initially joined the Dolphins in 2023 after the Rams traded him for tight end Hunter Long and a third-round pick in that year's draft. The three-time All-Pro cornerback tore his meniscus in his first training camp with Miami but re-joined the active roster ahead of Week 8. He recorded an interception in his first game with the team. Since then, Ramsey has started in all 27 games he's appeared in with Miami. In the last two seasons, he's recorded 82 tackles, 16 pass defenses, five interceptions and a sack.
