At the official premiere of the film on April 24 at TGV KLCC in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Professor Yoki Chin, president of Future Studios and the film's executive producer, said 'Pirate Queen' shows it's possible to make a movie with fully AI-generated visuals.
Chin is really excited about this. He said this AI movie is the beginning of something totally new in filmmaking. He thinks AI can help tell all sorts of different stories, be more creative, and share different cultures. Apple executives have held internal talks about buying AI startup Perplexity
[SAN FRANCISCO] Apple executives have held internal discussions about potentially bidding for artificial intelligence (AI) startup Perplexity AI, seeking to address the need for more AI talent and technology. Adrian Perica, the company's head of mergers and acquisitions, has weighed the idea with services chief Eddy Cue and top AI decision-makers, according to people with knowledge of the matter. The discussions are at an early stage and may not lead to an offer, said the sources, who asked not to be identified because the matter is private. Such a deal would help Apple develop an AI-based search engine, part of efforts to cope with the potential loss of a longstanding arrangement with Google. That partnership, which involves making Google the default browser on devices, generates roughly US$20 billion a year for Apple, and is now under threat from US antitrust enforcers. To date, Apple executives have not discussed a bid with Perplexity management. Bloomberg News reported earlier Friday that Meta Platforms tried to buy Perplexity earlier this year. China's Baidu eyes robotaxi expansion to Singapore and Malaysia
[BEIJING] Baidu is planning to launch its Apollo Go robotaxi service in Singapore and Malaysia as early as this year, according to a person familiar with the matter, as the company continues to expand its global footprint. Apollo Go is in discussions with potential partners to explore the right business models for the two markets, said the person, who asked not to be identified discussing private matters. Baidu chief executive officer Robin Li has previously said the company was seeking partners such as mobility service providers, local taxi companies and third-party fleet operators for an asset-light approach. The development comes as Tesla prepares to launch its Cybercab robotaxi network within days, with Elon Musk staking the electric carmaker's future growth on autonomous driving technology. At the same time, Chinese robotaxi companies including Apollo Go, and US-listed Weride and Pony AI are expanding into international markets such as the Middle East, Europe and South-east Asia. Baidu didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. Dow Jones Newswires reported the plans earlier. Apollo Go is fast scaling up. It has deployed than 1,000 self-driving vehicles worldwide, most of which are in China.
