Abdul Hussein eyes UAE Warriors title after first-round stoppage of Sami Yahia
Abdul Hussein landed three high knees followed up with a left hook to send Sami Yahia crashing to the canvas in the main event of Thursday's UAE Warriors Arabia versus Africa fight card.
Referee Marc Goddard stopped the bantamweight contest to prevent Yahia from suffering further punishment three minutes and 44 seconds into the first round, resulting in a TKO verdict for Hussein.
As soon as Hussein ended the contest, he grabbed a mobile phone from one of his cornermen that had Dana White's photo displayed on the lock-screen, a clear signal that Hussein believes the UFC president should take note of his talent.
With that result, the Palestinian also extended his record in the UAE Warriors to 4-0 and 13-2 overall in mixed martial arts, including 11 wins without going the distance.
'I think I did pretty good, going on the offensive from the start and completing the job in round one,' Hussein said after making short work of his France-based Algerian opponent at the Space 42 Arena in Abu Dhabi.
'After this result, I would expect the Abu Dhabi promotion to consider me for a title shot. Also, I really think the MMA world is taking note of my potential and the results and looking forward to hearing from them as well.'
In the co-main middleweight contest, Diego Bandu bounced back from his debut defeat in UAE Warriors with a second-round stoppage of Islem Masraf.
The South African landed elbow blows and punches for a TKO in four minutes and 15 seconds of the second round.
Abdulla Al Bousheiri was the most impressive on the night, stopping South African Cole Henning, who filled in for the injured Congolese Anicet Kanyeba, with a spectacular triangle armbar four minutes and 34 seconds into the first round.
A regular in the UAE Warriors, the Kuwaiti completed his third successive win in the promotion and took his overall record to 13-5.
'I love to compete in Abu Dhabi where I have a lot of friends and fans. I have been competing in the UAE Warriors for nearly six years and proud to represent the Gulf,' he said.
'The Arabia versus Africa card is unique which no other promotion has done. It provides the fighters from the continent a great platform and the opportunity to take their game to the next level.
'For me, I want to compete in the UAE Warriors as long as possible. I'm very happy with whatever match-up the promotion has offered me and as always, looking forward to my next appearance in Abu Dhabi.'

From studying law in Morocco to flying non-stop for over seven hours inside the world's largest wind tunnel, Hinda Salih's story is one of transformation, endurance, and breaking boundaries. Now the Lead Instructor at CLYMB™ Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, Salih holds the distinction of being the world's first female Level 4 Indoor Skydiving Trainer — the highest level of certification recognised by the International Bodyflight Association. 'I was a lawyer,' Salih told Khaleej Times. 'I was also the captain of the national handball team and participated in all the African and Arab championships. But I wanted to try something new.' In 2010, she was in Morocco when recruiters from an indoor skydiving facility visited, looking for coaches for children's activities in Dubai. 'They told me they were only looking for boys and had flown in a trained girl from America. But I said, let me try. I did 25 push-ups, 25 sit-ups, and 5 pull-ups. That same day, they told me, 'Congratulations, you passed the fitness test,' and I was on a plane to Dubai,' she recalled. With no prior experience in indoor skydiving, and without even Googling it, Salih joined a course with 12 male trainees and five Level 4 instructors from the US and UK. 'I was the first one to finish the course. I was fit, thanks to my background in handball, and that helped a lot. That's when they told me: 'You are the first female instructor in the world.'' Her journey has since taken her through multiple tunnels in the UAE, including iFLY Dubai and Inflight, before joining CLYMB™ Abu Dhabi in 2019, home to the world's largest indoor skydiving wind tunnel. Her milestone didn't stop at being the first. In 2016, Salih broke the Guinness World Record for the longest indoor freefall, flying continuously for seven hours and five seconds without touching the tunnel walls or net. 'I was doing flips — front flip, back flip, sit fly, head down, changing every time,' she said. 'It was like a marathon inside a tunnel. I didn't feel like I was inside for seven hours.' The feat was accomplished alongside an Australian male flyer. 'At one point, they asked if I could keep going. I said yes. But he couldn't. So, I told them, let's stop so both of us could share the record — first male and first female. Otherwise, I would have continued alone.' In 2022, she earned a second Guinness title, joining a 31-person head-down vertical formation flight, a complex manoeuvre where all participants fly upside down in a synchronised pattern. But perhaps Salih's most profound impact is as a trainer. As the only woman to hold the Level 4 Trainer certification globally, she can train and certify other trainers up to that level; a role she takes seriously, especially when encouraging more women to enter the field. 'At CLYMB, I'm proud that half the instructors are girls. That's rare. Usually, girls may do a little skydiving, get tired, and stop. This job needs dedication and resilience; with our bodies, our hormones, it's not easy for women.' Her goal now? To become the first non-American examiner. 'All examiners now are American. But I believe we can reach that level.' Salih credits the UAE for her success. 'If I had stayed in Morocco, I would never have achieved this. There were no tunnels. No opportunities. Everything I've done, I owe it to the UAE.' Fifteen years after stepping into a tunnel for the first time, Salih continues to fly daily, often training others and refining safety systems. 'I don't want anyone to feel the fear I felt in my first two minutes,' she said. 'So, I teach them how to relax. I always tell them if you want to fly, just think that you're floating in a swimming pool. Let the wind carry you.' Now 50, she says she will keep progressing in the field as long as her body allows her to.

For nearly four decades, Saeed bin Suroor has been highly regarded as a master horseman and trainer known for being gracious in triumph. That familiar glint returned to his eyes on Thursday as Arabian Story thundered home in the Britannia Stakes, handing Saeed his landmark 40th Royal Ascot winner. It was a full-circle moment, almost thirty years since his first Royal Ascot triumph with So Factual in 1995. This was a milestone carved not numerically but by sheer character. Saeed's string may have shrunk from a mighty 250 to just 30 horses today yet when he talks about his horses there's a spark. 'We try to do the best with what we have,' says a vintage Saeed, with just faith. Arabian Story and jockey Oisin Murphy helped answer that faith with a barnstorming prompting Saeed to declare that the 29-year-old three-time British champion was 'the best jockey in the world.' Murphy, who has enjoyed a profitable association with Saeed was also generous in praise for Saeed, the oldest serving handler with Godolphin, the globe-trotting racing stable created by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. March 25, 2000, remains one of the most iconic moments in Saeed's career as Dubai Millennium emerged as an imperious and record-setting winner of the Dubai World Cup solidifying his legendary status in global racing. And what a dream Saeed has carried: Four champion trainer at Royal Ascot, four British trainer championships, 13 Classic wins, nine Dubai World Cups, over 500 Group wins across the globe, and now 40 Royal Ascot victories - achievements that belong to the history books. Over three decades, Saeed's Royal Ascot legacy has been furnished by a string of unforgettable champions in the Godolphin blue — from the imperious Dubai Millennium in 2000 to dual Gold Cup hero Kayf Tara, the globe-trotting Fantastic Light (2001), classy miler Shamardal (2005), the versatile Benbatl (2017), and the ever-game Real World (2021).
