Filipino 'Anak' singer Freddie Aguilar died of multiple organ failure
Freddie Aguilar (pic) died of multiple organ failure at the Philippine Heart Center, according to his ex-partner, Josephine Quiepo.
The cause of Aguilar's death was announced on the May 27 episode of Fast Talk With Boy Abunda with the mainstay host citing Quiepo.
"According to Josie, Ka Freddie died of multiple organ failure at the Philippine Heart Center last night. On May 20, Ka Freddie asked for prayers on his Facebook page, but he didn't detail his condition," said Abunda.
Aguilar's death was earlier confirmed by lawyer George Briones of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) on Tuesday. The singer, who died at 72 years old, previously served as the national executive vice president of the political party.
Aguilar's final partner, Jovie Albao, penned a farewell message to the singer following his death.
She took to her Facebook account to share a photo of her and Aguilar engaged in an embrace as she promised to lead a good life so they can reunite in heaven.
'I will live a good life so I can meet you in Jannah (Heaven). Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un (to Allah we belong and to Allah we shall return). This is not goodbye, just farewell for now. Mahal na mahal kita, hanggang sa muli bhabe (I love you so much. Until we meet again, babe). It was a good fight, because we are fighting together,' she wrote.
The remains of the singer were buried less than 24 hours after following the Islamic burial rites.
In 2013, when he was 60, Aguilar converted to Islam so he could marry Albao, who was then 16 years old. Their relationship drew criticism and concern especially from the youth sector.
Known for his songs Anak and Bayan Ko, Aguilar established his identity as a folk singer-songwriter by blending elements of Manila sound, folk, and rock in his music. He is also known for letting his long locks loose, which are often held in place by a fedora hat, as well as his clear sunglasses during performances. – Philippine Daily Inquirer/Asia News Network

Moo-ving incentive: Cow is lucky draw grand prize at Guai fun run
BERA: The organiser of the inaugural 5km Guai state constituency fun run next month has announced that the lucky draw grand prize is a live cow. The bovine bonus has sparked significant interest in the fun run, with many people expressing their intention to join for a chance to bring the cow home. The event poster said the lucky draw grand prize winner will get a cow, while 20 other participants will get electrical goods and hampers. Netizens had a field day with the announcement. One commenter asked about the breed of the cow, while another quipped, "Alamak! Hari Raya Haji has passed!" Facebook user Emma Lynchey said: "Imagine the grand prize winner keeping it as a pet instead." Some comments were more serious, pointing out that a cow is a valuable commodity that can fetch a few thousand ringgit. The fun run organiser clarified to the New Straits Times that the cow image on the poster was for illustration purposes only. The July 5 fun run will be flagged off by Guai assemblyman and Pahang Social Welfare, Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Datuk Sabariah Saidan at the Kampung Seberang Guai multipurpose hall.

Hong Kong singer Tommy Yuen arrested for allegedly stealing snacks worth HK$140
Hong Kong singer Tommy Yuen Man-on has been arrested for allegedly stealing snacks from a supermarket, the Post has learned. Yuen, a former member of the defunct Cantopop boy band E-kids, was arrested on Wednesday after he was spotted acting suspiciously by patrolling officers in To Kwa Wan, police said. He allegedly stole items from a Wellcome supermarket and was carrying a credit card belonging to someone else, a police spokesman said. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting. The case is being handled by the Kowloon City district investigation team. Yuen allegedly took 11 items, including bottled drinks, packets of candy, biscuits and coated peanuts, valued at about HK$140 (US$18). Officers also confirmed that the credit card in his possession belonged to a friend, who was contacted to retrieve it at the police station. Yuen, 45, previously served 26 months in jail for insulting police and officials and fabricating a fundraising story. In May last year, Yuen wrote a Facebook post saying that he had decided to leave Hong Kong after facing weekly contact with national security police following his early release from jail in September 2023. He said the frequent questioning caused him fear and distress, leading him to worry about being sent back to prison. In the May 1 Facebook post, Yuen said: 'I have finally left Hong Kong and started living in the United Kingdom!' The father of two also expressed determination to work hard in the UK and continue pursuing music, creating content, posting on social media and starting a YouTube channel. 'I believe that I won't or won't be able to go back to my beloved Hong Kong any more in my lifetime, as it continues to deteriorate day by day,' he had said. However, he was seen in the city in December. Yuen was arrested by national security police in February 2022, charged within 48 hours and kept in custody until his trial. In a court hearing in July 2023, he admitted to breaching a colonial-era sedition law by insulting police and officials on social media, as well as laundering more than HK$700,000 that he had raised by fabricating a story about a teenager facing a riot trial over her involvement in the anti-government protests of 2019. Two months later, he was sentenced to 26 months in jail. - SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST
