Uttarakhand: President Murmu celebrates 11th International Yoga Day in Dehradun
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], June 21 (ANI): President Droupadi Murmu took part in the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations at Uttarakhand's Dehradun on Saturday, along with Governor Gurmeet Singh.
The program organised at Police Lines, Dehradun is part of the nationwide celebration of Yoga on International Yoga Day with the theme 'Yoga For One Earth, For One Health.' The 11th annual Yoga day celebrations have seen wide participation from states across the country.
Visuals from Police lines showed President Murmu doing asanas with the governor and other officials. The President is in Uttarakhand as part of a three-day visit to the state which will be concluding today.
During her visit, on June 20 President Murmu graced the opening of Rashtrapati Niketan for public viewing and also visited the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities where she witnessed an exhibition and Model School Science Lab and interact with the students. On the same day she also released a postage stamp on Raj Bhavan, Nainital, on the completion of its 125 years.
Earlier today, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nationwide Yoga day celebrations from Vishakapatnam, he urged the international community to embrace 'inner peace' as a 'global policy' and make yoga a collective global responsibility.
'I would like to take this opportunity to urge the global community on this important occasion to let this International Yoga Day mark the beginning of Yoga for Humanity. Let this be the day when inner peace becomes a global policy, where yoga is embraced not just as a personal practice, but as a powerful tool for global partnership and unity. Let every country and every society make yoga a shared responsibility, a common contribution toward collective well-being,' the Prime Minister said.
The event was held along the scenic Visakhapatnam coastline, with Indian Navy ships stationed near the shore, adding to the grandeur of the celebration.
PM Modi was joined by lakhs of yoga enthusiasts, residents, and dignitaries from Andhra Pradesh.
Calling for a global mass movement through yoga, PM Modi said, 'Come, let us all together make Yoga a mass movement. A movement that takes the world towards peace, health and harmony. Where every person starts the day with yoga and finds balance in life. Where every society is connected to yoga and free from stress. Where yoga becomes the medium to bind humanity together. And where Yoga For One Earth, One Health becomes a global resolution.'
Multiple other leaders, including Chief Ministers of various states, multiple Union Ministers also participated in the Yoga day programs across the country. (ANI)

Visakhapatnam: Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the people of Andhra Pradesh for their enthusiastic participation in the Yogandhra initiative, which set a new Guinness World Record in Visakhapatnam on Saturday. In a social media post on Sunday, the PM praised Andhra Pradesh's commitment to integrating yoga into daily life, describing the event as a powerful symbol of collective well-being and civic spirit. Modi attended the International Yoga Day (IYD) event held in Visakhapatnam on Saturday as chief guest. The event took place along a 26-kilometre stretch from RK beach. The gathering witnessed a record-breaking 3 lakh participants performing yoga simultaneously at a single venue, surpassing the previous record of nearly 1.5 lakh set in Surat in 2023. The event also featured a synchronised performance of 108 Surya Namaskars by about 22,000 tribal students over 108 minutes, setting a second Guinness World Record for cultural inclusivity and coordinated participation. Ahead of Bihar polls, EC plans house-to-house survey for electoral roll
The Election Commission of India is planning to conduct an 'intensive house-to-house verification' of the voters' list in Bihar ahead of the assembly polls due in the state later this year, officials said on Sunday. Such an intensive and rigorous revision of the electoral rolls has been done in the past as well with the last such exercise undertaken in 2004 (HT Photo) Concerns have been raised by various civil society organisations, political parties and others persistently over the inclusion or deletion of names in the electoral rolls, the officials said. 'To ensure the system is completely robust and error-free, the ECI is considering an intensive house-to-house verification during the upcoming electoral roll revision before the Bihar Assembly polls,' an EC official familiar with the matter said requesting anonymity. The regular exercise of revision of electoral rolls is undertaken annually throughout the country by the EC and also before the holding of elections or bypolls. The provisions regarding eligibility to be registered as a voter and disqualification are clearly laid down in Article 326 of the Constitution and Section 16 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 respectively, they said. Inter-state and intra-state movement of voters is another key reason why rolls need updation. For instance, during 2024, according to the forms received by the EC, 4.6 million people shifted their residence, 23 million applied for corrections and 3.3 million requested for replacement, the commission said in a statement issued on Sunday. Thus, in a single year, nearly 31 million changes were required to be made across the country, the commission said in the statement. Officials lamented that despite following a detailed protocol, insinuations and allegations are often made against the EC of arbitrarily inflating the electoral roll, even though the exercise is conducted with complete transparency and under constant scrutiny of political parties. Several parties, including the Congress, have accused the poll authority of manipulating voter data.
