Capstone Green Energy to Deliver Scalable 2MW Microturbine System for Government-Backed Power Station in Remote Oceania Community

Capstone Green Energy to Deliver Scalable 2MW Microturbine System for Government-Backed Power Station in Remote Oceania Community

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 27, 2025--
Capstone Green Energy Holdings, Inc. (the 'Company' or 'Capstone') (PINK: CGEH) and Capstone Green Energy, LLC., announced that its Australian distributor, Optimal Group, has been selected as the EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) contractor for a remote community power generation project in the Oceania region. The project will deploy two Capstone C1000S Signature Series microturbines in a scalable configuration to deliver an initial 2 megawatts (MW) of reliable, low-emission power to an isolated community. This system is designed for expansion, with the ability to scale up to 5MW of power.
Commissioning of the initial 2MW installation is targeted for November 2025. The power station will be located near a natural gas fuel conditioning plant for conversion into LPG that will serve the Asia Pacific region. The project will off-take a portion of the natural gas from this process for the Capstone microturbines. The power generated by this facility will be exported to the local grid, meeting the community's current energy demand of 2MW. As additional residents and businesses connect to the grid over the coming years, the station's capacity is expected to scale up to 5MW.
'Being able to serve the needs of remote, underserved communities is especially meaningful for us,' said Vince Canino, President and CEO of Capstone Green Energy. 'Our ability to operate on alternate fuels in such isolated locations reinforces Capstone's original design philosophy of providing compact and mobile power solutions – visionary thinking that was introduced by Capstone's founders, James Noe and Robin McKay, almost 40 years ago. Our long-standing company culture of daring greatly and iterating towards success is why Capstone's microturbines can provide a much lower carbon footprint on a sustainable basis compared to diesel generators, and we are able to do so while offering unmatched reliability and availability. Even in the most challenging environments, we are able to provide a very attractive total cost of electricity.'
Capstone's modular microturbine design allows the system to easily scale with growing demand, ideal for evolving community needs. With a single-shaft design as the only moving part, plus air bearings that eliminate the need for lubricating oils and coolants, Capstone microturbines require minimal maintenance. This not only creates some of the highest availability factors in the industry, but it also leads to significant cost savings—an essential benefit for any project in remote locations.
This project will also transition the region away from reliance on diesel for power generation. By utilizing refined natural gas instead of diesel, the project will reduce NOx, CO2, and VOC emissions. It will also eliminate particulate matter (PM2.5) emissions all together. Additional benefits that contributed to the selection of Capstone's technology include its quieter operation. Because our microturbines run on a cushion of air, noise is significantly less than that of reciprocating engines which run at substantially higher decibel levels.
'This is yet another project that showcases our commitment to transitioning businesses and communities away from the pollution and messiness of diesel generation. This power station will provide a reliable source of electricity to the local community and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Energy security will also be enhanced via the use of locally produced gaseous fuel,' said Craig Dugan, CEO of Optimal Group. 'Optimal's territory includes some of the most remote and challenging locations globally. Leveraging Capstone's technological flexibility allows us to deliver intelligently clean solutions at a lower total cost of ownership, with high availability and reliability. These solutions, which are renewable fuel-ready, integrate seamlessly with other renewable energy systems as well. We not only can make an impact today, but we have also designed in the ability to be future proof.'

3 Stocks to Profit From the Upcoming Nuclear Power Boom

NuScale Power is a leading developer of small modular reactors, which offer a variety of benefits compared to traditional nuclear power plants. Those interested in a utility stock will find Constellation Energy, the largest provider of nuclear power in the United States, an appealing option. Cameco is a uranium mining leader that has the potential to benefit from growth in small modular reactors. 10 stocks we like better than NuScale Power › President Donald Trump, committed to facilitating a rebirth of America's nuclear energy industry, issued four executive orders in late May. From expediting the licensing process for nuclear reactors to examining the potential for nuclear fuel recycling, Trump addressed a range of issues that had hindered the industry's growth for years. With enthusiasm for the nuclear energy industry surging through Washington, many are eager to find stocks that can benefit from the industry's apparent renaissance. For these investors, NuScale Power (NYSE: SMR), Constellation Energy (NASDAQ: CEG), and Cameco (NYSE: CCJ) look like smart choices to power their portfolios. Long gone are the days of massive nuclear power plants that require enormous capital investments and take years to construct. Nowadays, companies like NuScale Power are developing small modular reactors (SMRs) that offer a variety of advantages over conventional nuclear power plants. For one, SMRs require considerably smaller footprints, making them more attractive to project developers, which can scale these reactors to their individual site's needs. And SMRs have improved safety profiles including the ability to shut down and self-cool indefinitely, unlike traditional nuclear power plants. Among other advantages, NuScale's SMRs are built in a factory, which helps to keep costs down and expedite project development. With $491 million in cash and no debt, the company is on strong financial footing, an appealing situation for those looking to balance a quality growth stock that's not rife with risk. To state its competitive advantage over other SMR providers, NuScale Power says that it's the only near-term deployable SMR company with design approval from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. While Constellation Energy's portfolio includes about 10 gigawatts (GWs) of natural gas, oil, hydroelectric, wind, and solar generation assets, it's nuclear energy that represents the lion's share of its generating capacity -- about 21 GWs, or enough power to meet the demands of 16 million homes. The company's nuclear assets caught the attention of Microsoft in 2024, and the two inked a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) that will see the tech company purchase power in support of its data centers, generated from the restart of operations at the Three Mile Island plant, now dubbed the Crane Clean Energy Center. More recently, Meta Platforms showed its enthusiasm for nuclear energy as a power source for its growing AI-related operations. Earlier this month, Meta and Constellation signed a 20-year PPA for nuclear energy that will be generated at the Clinton Clean Energy Center in Illinois. The deals that Constellation inked with Microsoft and Meta are merely two small examples of the vast investments that AI companies are making to support their data centers. And it wouldn't be all that surprising if Constellation Energy announces similar deals with AI leaders that recognize the allure of nuclear energy as a route to meeting the steep power demands that AI computing requires. Interest in developing new nuclear power plants is great, but it means little if there's no uranium to fuel said power plants. That's where Cameco comes in. The company is the largest uranium producer based on market capitalization found on American stock exchanges. Operating throughout the nuclear fuel value chain, Cameco is involved in exploratory activities as well as uranium refining and fuel manufacturing services. And with one of President Trump's executive orders stating specifically that "It is the policy of the United States to expedite and promote to the fullest possible extent the production and operation of nuclear energy..." Cameco clearly stands to benefit as the pathway for developing uranium assets, and other potential regulatory hurdles may be less burdensome now. In 2024, Cameco reported uranium production of 23.4 million pounds, and it has ample resources to ensure production for years to come. As of the end of 2024, for example, the company reported 457 million pounds of proven and probable reserves. It's also worth noting that Cameco has the potential to profit from the growth of SMR producers like Kairos Power and TerraPower that use high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) as a fuel source. Cameco also has a 49% ownership stake in Global Laser Enrichment, which has the ability to produce HALEU. Indonesia President denies G7 snub in Russia visit

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Friday denied snubbing the G7 summit to visit Russia, in a speech at an economic forum alongside Vladimir Putin. The former general declined an invitation to the G7 in Canada earlier this week in favour of talks with Putin in Saint Petersburg, a decision that raised concerns about Jakarta moving closer to Moscow. Speaking at Russia's landmark economic forum on Friday, Prabowo played down the decision. "I was asked why I did not attend the G7, but I attended the Saint Petersburg Forum 2025," he said. "It's not because I did not respect the G7, it's because I gave my commitment to attend this forum before they invited me," Prabowo told the event's plenary session, where he sat next to Putin on stage. "That's the only reason. So please don't read too much into the event... We want to be friends with everybody," he added. Prabowo and Putin held talks a day earlier, both hailing ties and calling for increased cooperation. Indonesia maintains a neutral foreign policy, walking the diplomatic tightrope between regional competitors Beijing and Washington. However, Prabowo has sought to diversify Jakarta's alliances instead of relying solely on Western partners, causing anxiety that he could deviate from the traditional non-aligned foreign policy. Closer ties with Moscow have sparked concern in Indonesia's neighbour Australia. bur/jj
