New revelations this week show Te Pāti Māori still hasn't produced an auditor's report for its 2023 financial statements of political donations. The party told the Electoral Commission that a 'delay with the auditing firm continued to be a problem' in explaining why its 2023 accounts remain unaudited. This excuse comes despite Te Pāti Māori having already paid the audit firm for the work, and it highlights a troubling pattern: the party has repeatedly failed to comply with basic electoral finance laws. Te Pāti Māori's ongoing issues with late and incomplete financial disclosures – from annual accounts to donation returns – raise serious questions about its commitment to legal obligations and political integrity. The general public should be concerned that a party which aspires to represent Aotearoa's indigenous voice is also gaining a reputation for flouting the rules meant to ensure transparency and trust in our democracy.
Why would they bother to comply with the law, when the Police give them a free pass? The way you get compliance is to haul the party secretary into court. Instead the Police have closed the file, despite TPM now being almost 10 months later (and after three weeks it is meant to be escalated to a more serious offence).

Te Pāti Māori is reaffirming our position of military neutrality, rejecting participation in imperial alliances, foreign wars, and warmongering masquerading as diplomacy. 'You don't send planes into a war zone 'just in case.' Not without a mandate. Not without telling the people. This Government is dragging us toward World War 3, in secret, without debate, and with zero accountability.' 'Luxon's complicity is putting everyone in Aotearoa at risk.' 'Aotearoa is not a puppet of Western militarism. We do not answer to NATO. We do not answer to the Five Eyes. We answer to our people and our values' said Waititi. 'This Government speaks boldly against the East but cowers before the West. It has no credibility on international law when its outrage is selective, and its silence bought.' 'Te Pāti Māori will not be silent. We will not stand by while bombs fall, sovereignty is trampled, and innocent people are killed. Te Pāti Māori is calling out the deep hypocrisy of a government that insists on sovereign trade relationships while denying them to our Pacific whanaunga. While Prime Minister Christopher Luxon is in China forging trade agreements with Māori exporters, he is punishing the Cook Islands for doing the same. "This is not about diplomacy, it's about control. This government is using funding as a weapon against one of our closest whanaunga for exercising its own sovereignty' Te Pāti Māori Co-leader, Debbie Ngarewa-Packer. 'The Cook Islands has a unique free association agreement with New Zealand. While they're self-governing, New Zealand provides defence and foreign affairs assistance when requested. Yet this aid relationship is now being weaponised as a tool of political obedience. "As Māori, our whakapapa binds us to the peoples of Te Moana-Nui-A-Kiwa. Our relationship with the Cook Islands is not one of dominance, it's one of shared ancestry, migration, and struggle. What this government is doing violates that sacred connection' said Ngarewa-Packer. Te Pāti Māori demands the government immediately reinstate the funding to the Cook Islands and publicly reaffirm its commitment to genuine free association and respectful relationships that treat each other as equals.
