Brush fire forces temporary closure of southbound SR-2 freeway in Glendale

A small brush fire prompted the temporary closure of southbound lanes of the SR-2 freeway in Glendale on Sunday evening.
Firefighters are referring to the blaze as the Mountain Fire, which is located near the 2100 block of Haven Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.
It's unclear how or when the fire started, but all southbound lanes were closed at around 7:30 p.m. as the firefight continued.
Crews could be seen working to battle the fire both from above the flames on the hillside overlooking the freeway and from the road with SkyCal over the scene.

Two hikers rescued from Presidio trail with heat-related injuries

Two hikers were rescued from a trail in the Presidio after suffering heat-related injuries Saturday afternoon, the San Francisco Fire Department said. One of the hikers required a rescue by helicopter, which was done in operation with California Highway Patrol's H30 helicopter, firefighters said. Both hikers were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the fire department said. Temperatures in the Presidio were in the 60s Saturday afternoon. Firefighters reminded the public to stay hydrated while hiking and to frequently rest and take trails slowly.

PLACERVILLE — Eastbound Highway 50 in Placerville has been shut down late Tuesday afternoon due to a grass fire. California Highway Patrol's Placerville division said the highway closure shouldn't be lifted soon, as firefighters were making great progress on what is being called the Point Fire. Wildfire ignites Friday in Santa Cruz Mountains

(KRON) — Cal Fire is responding to a wildfire west of Scotts Valley in the Santa Cruz Mountains Friday afternoon. The wildfire, named the Hermon Fire, grew to 2 acres by 12:38 p.m. and is 50 percent contained, Cal Fire said. The fire has a slow rate of spread, according to Cal Fire. No structures are currently threatened. A Cal Fire air support helicopter is on scene, and one firefighting hand crew has been dispatched, fire officials said. Mt Hermon Road is closed between Conference Drive and Lockwood Lane due to the fire, according to the California Highway Patrol. People are advised to avoid the area if possible.
