‘Tyler Perry's Straw' Review: The Accidental Bank Robber
In 'Tyler Perry's Straw,' Janiyah (Taraji P. Henson), a single mom in Atlanta, is having a very, very, very bad day. Her morning was already ragged when the writer-director piles onto her woes a demeaning landlord, a bullying boss, a distant school administrator, a line of disgruntled grocery customers and a road-raging, off-duty police officer. Did we mention that Janiyah winds up in the wrong office at the wrong time in the wrong state of mind?
As detectives arrive to a bloody crime scene at the grocery store where she clerks, Janiyah is across the parking lot at her bank, trying to cash her paycheck. Only she doesn't have identification, and the teller is being a stickler. Soon, Janiyah is waving a gun, something is flashing red in her daughter's see-through backpack and she has made hostages of the bank employees and a handful of aging customers. Sherri Shepherd portrays Nicole, the branch manager who tries to diffuse the situation, having amped it by telling the police that Janiyah has a bomb.
Teyana Taylor ('A Thousand and One') brings fierce focus to a deteriorating situation as Detective Kay Raymond. The security footage at the grocery store didn't lie, but Detective Raymond intuits something more has sent Janiyah to the desperate standoff. She steps in as a negotiator.
Perry, an unapologetic purveyor of melodrama, mercilessly teases the tension. Will Janiyah hurt the hostages? Will the authorities make a sad situation worse? The ending is perhaps too twisting for its own good. But Henson — so deeply committed to her character's emotional cratering — still makes us care.

Woman gives birth on Route 53 off ramp in Palatine, fire officials say
A woman gave birth by the side of the road in Palatine Friday afternoon. Illinois State Police said troopers responded to a call for a medical incident involving a mother giving birth on the ramp from Illinois Route 53 south to Palatine Road shortly before 12:30 p.m. Palatine fire officials said paramedics and firefighters responded to the same call, and found out on their way there that the woman had given birth. When paramedics arrived, fire officials said they found the baby crying and healthy, with no obvious complications. The EMTs clamped and cut the cord, then took the woman and baby into an ambulance where they comforted and cared for them before taking them to Northwest Community Hospital for further treatment and evaluation. Fire officials said the woman was being driven to the hospital for some other complaints when she began delivering her baby. Illinois State Police said both mom and baby are doing well. They have not been identified. The ramp was closed for a time as paramedics and police responded, but has subsequently reopened.

Brianne Howey Kept Running Into Matt Ziering Before They Started Dating
Ginny & Georgia star Brianne Howey plays a woman who faces wild challenges in life and in love. But in real life, she has been with her husband, Matt Ziering, for over a decade. The lawyer has been a steadfast partner all these years as Howey built up her career and they now share one child together. Here's everything to know about Matt Ziering and his relationship with Howey so far. Ziering is originally from Los Angeles and attended Loyola Marymount Law School. He went on to work as a lawyer, passing the bar in 2017. Per his X account, Ziering loves sports, especially baseball, and follows the St. Louis Cardinals, Cleveland Guardians, Philadelphia Phillies, and the L.A. Dodgers. He and Howey share a dog named Bodie, whom they adopted when their wedding in 2020 was canceled due to the pandemic. Howey told Los Angeles magazine in 2021, 'We couldn't get married in 2020, but we did get a dog.' Ziering and Howie love dressing up for Halloween, and Bodie is often included. They also love traveling together. Ziering's Instagram is private, but Howey often posts shots from their trips. The couple had mutual friends in Los Angeles, and Howey told Los Angeles magazine, 'We ran into each other three nights in a row at a couple bars in L.A.' During a June 2025 appearance on Jenna and Friends, Howey called the run-in a 'coincidence' and 'fate,' before sharing that Ziering admitted in his vows that he called around to find out where she might be a few of those nights. In November 2014, Howey revealed she was seeing someone in an interview with Complex, but didn't identify him. 'I live with my boyfriend, and we see lots of movies,' she shared. 'I love going to farmer's markets; they're my favorite thing in the world. I just think they're so fun; you get little samples, and you can buy flowers and fruit and stuff. And, because I'm from L.A., I spend a lot of time with my family. Luckily I get to see them all the time.' They were married in July 2021 after plans for their ceremony were canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19. After the ceremony, held in a backyard garden in Palos Verdes, California, Howey told People, 'It was the most beautiful feeling to be surrounded by so many people we love. The night was more magical than I could have ever imagined. I wish all of my nights could end with a Son of a Gun fried chicken sandwich and a Spice Girls dance party.' Howey revealed she was expecting in March 2023, with a picture of herself in a body-hugging Hugo dress. She and Ziering welcomed their first child in June 2023. In a post on June 18, Howey wrote, 'My whole world just got a whole lot sweeter. And smaller. Welcome my little love 💛.' Howey sometimes shares photos from their family life together, including more group costumes for Halloween.
