Restrict foresters' entry into tribal villages: MLAs
HYDERABAD: Congress MLAs belonging to Scheduled Tribe communities, including Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Danasari Anasuya alias Seethakka, on Tuesday passed a resolution urging the government to initiate measures to restrict the entry of forest officials into tribal villages and farmlands without permission from grama sabhas.
Seethakka chaired a meeting of MLAs representing tribal constituencies at Sankshema Bhavan in Masab Tank.
During the meeting, the MLAs brought to the notice of minister the problems being faced by tribals. They expressed displeasure over monopoly of forest officials in forest areas and violating PESA Acts.

Elaborating on the double benefits under the double-engine government, PM Modi said: 'People of the state were long deprived of many health schemes --- today they are availing benefits of Ayushman Bharat Yojana as well as Jan Aarogya Yojana. More than 23 lakh senior citizens above the age of 70 years, they are also drawing benefits under Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana.' PM Modi said that the nation has seen the Congress model for years, which offered nothing other than corruption, policy paralysis, the sprouting of middlemen but in BJP-ruled states, a new model of growth took shape, which is oriented towards public welfare. He also cited the model of Assam and Tripura, elucidating how the two states suffered during previous regimes but their fate and growth prospects changed after the BJP came to power there. PM Modi further said that prior to 2014, tribal communities neither got development nor participation in governance. The country had more than 125 tribal areas, all affected by the Maoist violence but instead of finding a solution, previous governments only sought to discredit them by labelling them as 'Maoist-affected'. PM Modi vowed to defeat LWE and said that hopes and dreams of tribal population will be brought to fruition. 'Two national schemes have been launched to bring all-round development of the backward as well as the tribal population and they will immensely benefit the residents here,' PM Modi remarked.

BJP accounted for nearly 45% of election spending during 2024 Lok Sabha polls: Report
The Bharatiya Janata Party spent nearly Rs 1,494 crore during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the four Assembly polls held along with it, said a report by the non-governmental organisation Association for Democratic Reforms on Friday. The Hindutva party received funds to the tune of Rs 6,268 crore, or 84.18% of the total funds collected by political parties during the 82-day election period from March 16 to June 6 last year. The Congress collected Rs 592.48 crore, which amounted to 7.96% of the total amount. The BJP spent Rs 1,493.91 crore during this period, which amounted to 44.56% of the total expenditure that political parties incurred. Among the 32 political parties that the report analysed, the Congress had the second highest expenses at Rs 620.14 crore, or 18.50% of the total expenditure during the election period. In total, political parties spent Rs 3,352.81 crore during last year's Lok Sabha election and Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim. The BJP spent Rs 983.92 crore on publicity during this period, while the Congress spent Rs 502.97 crore, said the Association for Democratic Reforms. This included media advertisements, publicity material and public meetings. On the whole, political parties spent over Rs 2,008 crore, or over 53% of their declared expenditure, on publicity. Parties also spent Rs 795.41 crore on travel, out of which Rs 765.36 crore, or 96.22%, was spent on travel expenses of star campaigners, the report found. The Association for Democratic Reforms published the analysis based on expenditure statements that political parties have to file with the Election Commission within 90 days of a parliamentary election and 75 days of an Assembly election. However, it noted significant delays by political parties in submitting these statements. The maximum delay was by the Aam Aadmi Party (168 days) followed by the BJP (139 days for the Lok Sabha elections, 154 days for Arunachal Pradesh, 147 days for Sikkim and 142 days for Andhra Pradesh and Odisha).

Pakistan, Bangladesh-based Social Media Accounts Boosting Assam Congress' Online, Says Himanta
Last Updated: Assam CM alleges over 5,000 foreign-run social media accounts are backing state Congress. Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday alleged that over 5,000 social media accounts run from Pakistan and Bangladesh and other Islamic nations are boosting the online presence of the state Congress unit. 'It is surprising that they do not comment on or like posts by Rahul Gandhi or even the Indian National Congress. They are only focused on a particular leader and the Assam Congress," Sarma was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. Himanta Biswa Sarma did not name the Assam Congress leader in question, but it appeared he was referring to Gaurav Gogoi, who took charge as the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president in the last week of May. The Assam CM claimed that social media accounts from 47 countries, mostly from Pakistan and Bangladesh, have been unusually focused on Gogoi's activities and the state Congress unit's recent moves. He said this is the first time he saw 'so much foreign involvement in Assam politics". 'We are not concerned with the change in the party's leadership in the state, but this development has taken place in the last month and there must be some link. For the first time, there is so much foreign involvement in Assam politics in the run-up to the 2026 assembly elections," Sarma said. He said the issue is related to 'national security" and added that the government is not ruling out that 'some of the accounts may be from within the state". Sarma then revealed that he has 'ordered a forensic audit" of the accounts while pointing out that some of the 5,000 accounts are being run with their location marked as Guwahati. He also said these social media accounts, apart from posting about Assam politics, are also reportedly sharing content linked to Islamic fundamentalist causes, including pro-Palestine messaging, Iranian narratives and statements by Bangladesh's chief advisor Mohammad Yunus. He said a forensic audit revealed that 700 of the accounts originated from Bangladesh, 350 from Pakistan, 246 from Saudi Arabia, 86 from Kuwait and 35 from Afghanistan. First Published:
