Trump offered to mediate on Kashmir even in his first term, India turned him down: Former National Security Advisory Board member

Gurugram (Haryana) [India], May 11 (ANI): Tilak Devasher, former member of the National Security Advisory Board, on Sunday said that US President Donald Trump, even during his first term, offered his mediation between India and Pakistan but it was turned down by India.
'It was a bilateral understanding, and the conditions are yet to be fixed, and hence, there will be a discussion between DGMOs on May 12,' Devasher told ANI.
'President Trump, even during his first term, offered his mediation, but PM Modi said that we are a mature country, and we will resolve it, and we don't need friends... We attacked Pakistan fiercely such that Pakistan's airfields were damaged, and hence it was desperate for a ceasefire,' he added.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday held a meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and tri-services chiefs at his 7, Lok Kalyan Marg residence in New Delhi.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan were also present at the meeting. The meeting comes after days of heightened tension with Pakistan along the western border, following Operation Sindoor carried out by the Indian Armed Forces on May 7. The operation targeted nine terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists.
Meanwhile, India and Pakistan have worked out an understanding on the stoppage of firing and military action, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Saturday and noted that India will continue its firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism.
'India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on the stoppage of firing and military action. India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so,' he said in a post on X.
The minister's remarks came after DGMOs of India and Pakistan agreed that both sides would stop all firing and military action.
Earlier, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri told the media that Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations contacted his Indian counterpart on Saturday afternoon. (ANI)

President Droupadi Murmu knows the importance of diversity in our country and recognises the pain of the deprived. This book proclaims the spirit of equality," Singh said. The defence minister remarked that the book brings together President Murmu's insights and ideas across a wide range of subjects, from civilisation and culture to religion, science, art, literature, education, health, and the journey from past to future. Singh asserted on President Murmu being the best example of women-led development in India. On Saturday, Singh had said that Operation Sindoor was not over yet, and that India was ready to take 'all kinds of action against terrorism' while addressing troops of the Army's Udhampur-based Northern Command on the 11th International Yoga Day. Singh had warned that the military action in Pakistan, a retaliation for the Pahalgam attack, was a clear message that it would face the consequences for supporting terror activities against India.

India, Pak extend airspace ban for each other till July 24

India on Monday (June 23, 2025) extended the closure of its airspace for flights operated by Pakistan airlines by another month till July 24. The Indian airspace has been closed for planes operated, owned or leased by Pakistan airlines and operators, including military flights, since April 30. The ban was imposed as part of various measures taken by the Indian Government against Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people on April 22. Initially, the ban was to end on May 24 and was subsequently extended till June 24. On Monday (June 23, 2025), a fresh NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) was issued, extending the closure by one more month till July 24, 2025. As per the NOTAM, Indian airspace will not be available for Pakistan-registered aircraft and aircraft operated, owned or leased by Pakistan airlines and operators, including military flights. Pakistan also extends the airspace ban Meanwhile, Pakistan has also extended by one month the closure of its airspace for Indian aircraft till July 24. On April 24, Pakistan banned its airspace for India until May 24, after the Indian Government suspended the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan. The airspace curb was extended till June 24. On April 23, a day after the Pahalgam attack, India announced a raft of punitive measures against Pakistan, including suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, shutting down of the only operational land border crossing at Attari and downgrading of diplomatic ties in view of cross-border links to the massacre.
