Avid PhoneArena readers might recall the Samsung HP5 sensor being mentioned in a January 2025 article – that's right, there were some rumors that the HP5 sensor might be incorporated into the then still unannounced Galaxy S25 Edge. Well, the super-thin Galaxy S25 Edge rendered those claims untrue some months later, when it materialized with a HP2 sensor inside. The Samsung HP5 is expected to be a 200 MP sensor, built on a 28nm node process, with 0.5μm pixel size, and an overall form factor size of 1/1.56-inch. Now, this is ever so slightly smaller than the 1/1.4-inch HP9 sensor, but the HP5 should be pretty amazing as well.If Oppo is indeed utilizing the HP5 for the Find X9 Pro (for its telephoto camera, to be precise), it would represent a major upgrade for Find X7 Ultra owners. For reference, the Find X7 Ultra's zoom camera 1/2.51-inch sensor is way smaller than the HP5. Larger sensors can deliver improved light sensitivity and enhanced image detail, so you understand why this is big news.The Find X9 Pro might come with a single telephoto snapper on its back – and Digital Chat Station says that while "the image quality of the 10X is still good", "the telephoto may not be as good as the dual periscope". Rumored T-Mobile change will be a double-edged sword for customers

New devices can be expensive, which is why many people finance their purchases through carriers. The downside to that is that customers can't leave their telecom company before paying off their device. For T-Mobile users, the installment plans are usually spread over 24 months but the company may extend the duration in the future. T-Mobile 's 24-month installments are known as "Equipment Installment Plans" or EIPs. AT&T and Verizon both switched to 36-month installment plans around four years back and now, T-Mobile is gearing up to follow suit. Apparently, T-Mobile briefly increased the duration of the installment plan for some Samsung Galaxy watches before reverting the change. According to a leaked internal document, T-Mobile is contemplating introducing 36-month EIPs for at least some devices. The longer installment plans may only be for select plans. The new policy may violate the "New in Two" guarantee that some plans offer to make it easy for customers to upgrade every two years. For now, it looks like the change has been delayed. However, given that it went live for a while, we might see it implemented soon. Revising installment plans to stretch over 36 months instead of 24 would allow T-Mobile to retain customers for longer, thereby reducing churn, which is an industry-wide concern. For customers, this would mean being beholden to the company for a year longer. A policy introduced last year already made it less enticing for customers to pay off their devices early and relieve themselves of the obligation to stick with the company for a long time. That said, longer installment terms may not necessarily be viewed as an anti-customer move, as payments will be spread over a longer period. For customers not thinking about leaving in the future, this would mean smaller payments every an average American keeps their smartphone for more than 2.5 months, so a 36-month installment plan might be a better idea. Either way, T-Mobile will once again have to eat its words and go against its statement about giving customers the freedom to upgrade to a new device every two years. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is not selling well, insiders say

Samsung experimented with the Galaxy S25 Edge – the light, slender flagship could have changed the course of Galaxy S design. But it seems that Samsung has misread the market and insiders are reporting disappointing sales for the Edge. New phones are expected to have good sales during the first three months of availability, say the insiders. The Galaxy S25 Edge, which only launched at the end of May, has sold fewer units than expected and Samsung has reportedly lowered the production targets for it. There was talk that next year the Edge will replace the Plus in the Galaxy S26 series. The Plus has historically been the weakest seller of the trio – we saw it this year, last year and the year before that too. We can understand why Samsung would want to shake things up and find a better-selling model, but the Edge isn't it – at least not this generation. It's not yet clear whether Samsung will change course for 2026 or whether it will give the Edge design another shot. Before that decision is made, the company has to deal with its foldable line-up. Insiders speaking to The Elec claim that Samsung will front-load the production of Galaxy Z7 foldables for the US market – it will manufacture 600,000 units this month, up from the original plan of 400,000 units. This is to get ahead of tariffs that will affect the price of units sold in the US. This will eat into the production numbers for the global market, at least for this month – production will gradually increase in July.
