The first-ever Dubai Open Karate Championship concluded on a high note, impressing spectators and participants alike with its exceptional level of competition and strong turnout. Organised by the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) and the UAE Karate Federation in cooperation with the Mentor Sports Academy, the competition witnessed participation from more than 280 players representing 13 teams, including three government clubs and nine private sports academies from across the UAE. Competitions in all categories of Kata and Kumite for various age groups were held at the indoor hall of Shabab Al Ahli Dubai Club. The organisation of the Dubai Open Karate Championship is part of the Dubai Sports Council's efforts to discover and develop sporting talent in line with the Dubai Government's policy of supporting talent in various fields. The winners were crowned by Major General Eng. Nasser Abdul Razzaq Al Razooqi, President of the UAE and Asian Karate Federations and Vice President of the International Karate Federation, in the presence of Ahmed Salem Al Mahri, Director of the Sports Talent Department at the Dubai Sports Council. Major General Eng. Razooqi expressed his pride in the success of the tournament, the level of organisation and the participation in all age categories. He further emphasized on the importance of continuing such events, which contribute to spreading karate and strengthening its status, especially as it is one of the oldest self-defence sports practiced in Dubai and throughout the UAE. Ahmed Salem Al Mahri, Director of the Sports Talent Department at the Dubai Sports Council, emphasized the importance of these tournaments in strengthening development programmes for talent in all sports. He noted that the participation of more than 280 male and female players in the first edition of the Karate Championship reflects the event's success. While mentioning the future expansion of the event, Mahri also praised the outstanding technical level witnessed in the tournament. He emphasized that the competition was an ideal platform for discovering promising talent who will form a fundamental pillar for future national teams. Moataz Al Salam, Tournament Director and Talent Care Programme Coordinator at the UAE Karate Federation, explained that organising the event presented special challenges in dealing with the younger age groups. He emphasized that a select group of distinguished and outstanding local and expatriate players were selected for the junior, cadet and youth categories. Among the many talented athletes who lit up the mats at the Dubai Open Karate Championship, several names stood out for their outstanding performances and technical brilliance. Hamza Abdul Salam showcased exceptional control and power, leaving a lasting impression in both his Kata and Kumite events. Rashid Al Hajjaj demonstrated remarkable agility and composure under pressure, earning praise from coaches and spectators alike. Faisal Al Khalidi stood tall in his category with his disciplined technique and sharp execution, while Saif Al Qaidi impressed with his tactical intelligence and relentless drive. Not to be overlooked, Khalifa Al Kindi captivated the crowd with a confident display that reflected both skill and maturity beyond his years.

This announcement came during a meeting held at the Council's headquarters and attended by the event's organising committee and representatives of the Emirate's participating clubs. During the meeting, early preparations for the event were reviewed and all necessary measures were put in place to ensure its excellence, as it is considered one of the most important annual events the Council has traditionally held. The meeting was attended by Bakhit Saeed Al Kors, Director of the Sports and Community Events Department and Chairman of the Organising Committee; Ahmed Ali Al Salman, Programme Manager; and members of the working team, along with club representatives. A variety of activities The programme will involve age groups from 7 to 12 years and from 13 to 17 years for boys and girls, and will involve a variety of targeted activities and events, including the Holy Quran, sports activities, talent discovery, creativity, artificial intelligence, sports culture, electronic games, training courses, and awareness workshops. 5 weeks and 5 themes The programme will run over five weeks: the first week is "I am Creative," the second week is "Here is Sharjah," the third week is "I am the Community," the fourth week is "I am an Athlete," and the fifth week is "I am the Future." Joint competitions will be held, and the host clubs will be determined later. A coordination schedule will also be set, along with directives to increase the percentage of emirati members by no less than 70%. The meeting also discussed determining evaluation criteria for organising clubs through a specialised committee, conducting field visits to compare the plan with the implemented programme and content, and discussing proposals submitted by clubs. It's worth noting that the clubs attending the meeting were Sharjah Sports Club, Al Batayeh, Al Hamriyah, Al Dhaid, Mleiha, Al Madam, Khorfakkan Sports Club, Dibba Al Hisn, Kalba, Sharjah Falconers Club, Sharjah Cultural Club for Chess, Chess and Culture Club for Sharjah Women, Sharjah Equestrian and Racing Club, Al Thiqah Club for the Disabled, Khorfakkan Club for the Disabled and Classic Cars Club, Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, Wadi Al Helo Ladies Club, and Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club. Bakhit Al Kors heads the organising committee, with Ahmed Al Salman as program director, and members including Sheikh Khalid bin Faisal, Khaled Al Junaibi, Safia Al Zarouni, Fawaghi Al Fardan, Hani Al Qasim, Hassan Al Toumi, and Mohamed Salah Mounir.

Recognition and individual awards Sharjah Club also received the Excellence Award from the UAE Taekwondo Federation in recognition of its role in hosting international training camps and organising championships. The club was further honoured with the Outstanding Partner Award. In individual honours, Sharjah received the award for Best Coach of the Season, and its athletes were recognised as Best Player in the men's, youth, and junior categories. With this result, the 'Kings of Taekwondo' added their 10th title of the season and claimed the overall championship trophy in the men's category. Official statement from the club Engineer Suleiman Abdulrahman Al Hajri, Board Member and Head of Individual Sports, said: "We congratulate the taekwondo team on this achievement, which reflects the efforts of the technical and administrative staff. I also commend the outstanding performance of our athletes who lived up to expectations and represented the club in the best way throughout the season." He added: "Individual sports at Sharjah Club follow a strategy of continuity and generational transition. This long-term approach has yielded remarkable results across all disciplines over the years. We will continue this path to safeguard our successes and achieve new milestones in future seasons." Al Hajri also stressed that the consistent support and attention from the Sharjah Sports Council have played a major role in the success of individual sports across the emirate, especially at Sharjah Club. He acknowledged the unwavering backing of the club's Board of Directors, which has stood by the teams in every competition. Looking ahead to the next season Al Hajri concluded by noting that preparations for the new season are already underway, with plans to meet all team needs to ensure they are fully equipped to compete at the highest level. Attendance and honours The tournament and award ceremony were attended by Issa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council; His Excellency Mohammed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi, President of the UAE Taekwondo Federation; His Excellency Khalid Issa Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Sports Club; Engineer Suleiman Abdulrahman Al Hajri, Head of Individual Sports; alongside members of the Taekwondo Federation and Sharjah Club's board.
