Bitcoin Vegas in US: Pakistan unveils first govt-led Bitcoin reserve

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Crypto & Blockchain Bilal Bin Saqib on Thursday announced Strategic Bitcoin Reserve at Bitcoin Vegas 2025.
In front of an elite audience that included the Vice President of the United States, JD Vance, Eric Trump, and Donald Trump Jr., Bilal Bin Saqib, Pakistan's Minister for Crypto & Blockchain and CEO of the Pakistan Crypto Council, delivered a commanding keynote at Bitcoin Vegas 2025, unveiling the country's first government-led Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and with it, a radically new vision of Pakistan on the global map.
Bilal's message was bold: Pakistan is no longer defined by its past. It is being reborn as a forward-looking hub of digital innovation powered by its youth, sharpened by necessity, and led by a new generation of tech statesmen. I'm not just here as a minister, Bilal said. I'm here as the voice of a generation a generation that is online, on-chain, and unstoppable.
At just 34 years old, Bilal Bin Saqib has become the leading voice of a new Pakistan one with over 40 million crypto wallets, a median age of 23, and one of the largest and most active freelancer economies in the world.
While other leaders talk about potential, Bilal is unlocking it with bold national moves that put Pakistan at the centre of the global crypto conversation.
In his keynote, Bilal announced the establishment of a national Bitcoin wallet, holding digital assets already in state custody not for sale or speculation, but as a sovereign reserve signalling long-term belief in decentralised finance.
He also thanked President Donald Trump for his role as a peacemaker in the recent India-Pakistan conflict and for his commitment to crypto adoption.
He also revealed that the Government of Pakistan has allocated 2,000 megawatts of surplus electricity in Phase 1 for Bitcoin mining and AI data centres, opening doors to sovereign miners, tech firms, and clean energy partners around the world. To harness this momentum, Bilal is also leading the creation of the Pakistan Digital Assets Authority (PDAA), a regulatory body designed to empower builders, protect investors, and formalise digital finance frameworks for the future.
'Both Pakistan and Bitcoin have suffered from bad PR.' Bilal declared. But if you look past the headlines, you'll see something else: talent, resilience, and vision.
His speech was not only a historic moment for Pakistan, but a call to global builders: If you're building something real come build it in Pakistan. Come build wallets for the unbanked. Come tokenize land. Come scale your mission with our youth and our unstoppable grit. As global eyes turned to Las Vegas, Bilal Bin Saqib delivered more than a keynote. He delivered a blueprint for the future of emerging markets in Web3 one that positions Pakistan as a tech-forward, youth-powered and opportunity-rich nation ready to lead.

US investor strikes $1 billion merger to create bitcoin treasury company

BOSTON: US investor and entrepreneur Anthony Pompliano announced on Monday the creation of a new bitcoin treasury company that would hold up to $1 billion of the world's largest cryptocurrency on its balance sheet. Pompliano said in a statement that his financial services firm ProCap BTC would merge with Columbus Circle Capital I, a special purpose acquisition company, to create ProCap Financial, a bitcoin treasury firm. Several public companies have employed bitcoin treasury strategies, which involves allocating a portion of their cash and reserves toward bitcoin, to replicate the success of software company Strategy, which began accumulating bitcoin in 2020 and now holds more than $63 billion worth of the digital token. The trend comes as US President Donald Trump has sought to overhaul cryptocurrency policy, including calls to establish a strategic bitcoin reserve, after courting cash from the industry on the campaign trail. Pompliano, one of the biggest investors in the crypto space over the last several years, said ProCap BTC has raised $500 million in equity and $250 million in a convertible note, in what he termed the largest initial fundraising in history for a bitcoin treasury company. Pakistan allocates 2,000 MW to Bitcoin mining, AI data centers in bold digital economy push Unlike traditional bitcoin treasury companies, Pompliano said ProCap Financial would use its bitcoin balance sheet to generate revenue and profit through a variety of strategies, including lending, derivatives, and other products and services. He also said leading institutional investors Citadel, Susquehanna, Jane Street, and Magnetar have committed capital, as have crypto firms Off the Chain Capital, Pantera, Coinfund, Parafi, and FalconX. Reuters was unable to verify whether these companies were investing in ProCap Financial. 'The legacy financial system is being disrupted by bitcoin right before our eyes,' Pompliano said. 'Our objective is to develop a platform that will not only acquire bitcoin for our balance sheet, but will also implement risk-mitigated solutions to generate sustainable revenue and profits from our bitcoin holdings.'

Pakistan's ‘first operator-led angel investing network' launched

A private, invite-only angel investing network called Dastak has been launched by entrepreneur Saif Ali, designed to support high-growth Pakistani startups across tech, direct-to-consumer (D2C) brands, and services businesses. According to a statement, Dastak brings together seasoned operators, corporate executives, and investors from Pakistan and the diaspora to back 'ambitious founders with more than just capital.' Pakistan's startups face capital crunch, need urgent reforms: i2i report 'I'm not here to chase unicorns. I'm here to help a generation of Pakistanis build companies that put food on the table, pride in the product, and power back in the hands of young people,' Ali told Business Recorder. 'Pakistan will continue to face economic headwinds in the years ahead. The only way our youth can create real change is by building new companies, hundreds or even thousands of them,' he said, adding: 'this can only happen if we mobilize both local capital and local experience.' As per the release announcing the statement, Dastak is built on a premise that has talent but needs 'deeper backing' and it wants to curate a network of strategic angels, thereby simplifying the path to early-stage investment. The network is sector-agnostic with a focus on tech and SaaS; direct-to-consumer brands and modern services - margin-rich services businesses which it said are often overlooked by traditional venture capital investors. Rather than functioning as a fund or platform, Dastak says it facilitates direct investments. Startups gain exposure to operator-angels who have built and scaled companies themselves, while angels get access to vetted deals, legal coordination, and a streamlined investment process. The current group includes founders, C-level operators, and investment professionals spanning fintech, logistics, consumer technology, SaaS, and IT services, both within Pakistan and the diaspora abroad. While individual names are not being disclosed publicly at this stage, access to the network is currently limited to those who bring deep operational experience alongside capital. To ensure regulatory clarity, Dastak says it does not offer investment advice, manage funds, or guarantee returns. It facilitates access to vetted startup opportunities and provides advisory support where helpful. Investment decisions are made solely by individual angels. The initiative's aim is to lowers the barrier to angel investing while helping startups benefit from the mentorship and expertise of experienced professionals.
