Could the Nets trade for Grizzlies' Ja Morant after Desmond Bane deal?
The Brooklyn Nets are in the middle of a 2025 NBA offseason in which they have a sizable amount of ammunition to make moves happen across the league. While Brooklyn seems content to let its current rebuild play out through the draft, they are also reportedly open to trading for stars like Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. What about Memphis Grizzlies star guard Ja Morant?
"But more star trades are not expected. Sources told ESPN that the Grizzlies are not looking to deal either of their two remaining franchise cornerstones," ESPN's Tim Bontemps reported on Sunday concerning Morant and Grizzlies center Jaren Jackson Jr. After getting swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Oklahoma City Thunder, Memphis was considered one of the teams looking for change, especially after firing head coach Taylor Jenkins prior to the playoffs.
"Memphis handing the team to coach Tuomas Lisalo -- who wants to play a fast-paced system with tons of pick-and-roll and 3-point shooting -- is designed to maximize what Morant can do," Bontemps continued. While Bontemps' report confirms that the Grizzlies intend to move forward with Morant as part of the core, ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported on Sunday (h/t to Bleacher Report's Zach Bachar) that teams will test that commitment.
ESPN's Tim MacMahon said on "The Hoop Collective" podcast that Morant is still considered the face of the franchise for Memphis, but time will tell if the Grizzlies will feel that way for the long term. MacMahon said towards the end of the 2024-25 regular season that there was chatter about Morant being available this summer so for all anyone knows, Morant could still be had for the right price.
Morant, 25, is coming off a 2024-25 season in which he averaged 23.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game while shooting 45.4% from the field and 30.9% from three-point land. While that is considered a down season based on what Morant did from 2021 to 2023, he still has the kind of ability that can raise the floor of a Nets team that will likely be in the lottery again.
Morant has three years and nearly $127 million left on his current contract, but Morant could be the point guard of the future that Brooklyn has been looking for since Kyrie Irving was playing at Barclays Center. There is no indication of what the Grizzlies would want to let Morant go, but the Nets have plenty of cap space this summer along with nine tradeable first-round picks as of this writing.

NFL Insider Says Dolphins Nearing Jalen Ramsey Trade
NFL Insider Says Dolphins Nearing Jalen Ramsey Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Miami Dolphins have been trying to send Jalen Ramsey and his $72-plus million contract packing since April of this year. According to Bleacher Report, NFL insider Jeremy Fowler of ESPN says the team is nearing a deal. Advertisement "This is the next domino to drop league-wide when you talk to other teams, this is the next big move that is anticipated around the NFL," Fowler reported. The Los Angeles Rams are the one team that has shown interest in the veteran cornerback, but Rams head coach Sean McVay noted that there were "obstacles" that prevented a deal from being finalized at this point. Fowler named the Rams as a team "in the mix" with the most interest. "That's a team that others have identified as just the perfect fit," Fowler said. "You know, they have a need, they're familiar with the player, they won a Super Bowl with him, so we'll see." Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey (5) meets with Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp (10) following the game at SoFi A. Vasquez-Imagn Images There is one big roadblock, and it is the same issue that is believed to be an obstacle that Sean McVay described. Advertisement That obstacle is contract he signed last fall with Miami. The 30-year-old Ramsey is due a boatload of guaranteed money this upcoming season, more than $20 million. "Teams have a hard time reconciling how much they're gonna have to pay at that contract," Fowler said. Fowler also said that the Rams are not the only team in the mix. That means at some point a cornerback-needy team will come calling. Speculation remains as to how long that will take, varying from a mid-season trade to a deal in the coming weeks of the NFL offseason. Tanking NBA Finals ratings go beyond small-market problems
Surely it wasn't selected to make a point or to lament what the NBA has become, but it was, nonetheless, a picture worth a thousand 3-point heaves. During Thursday's Game 6 of the Thunder-Pacers Finals, ESPN/ABC went to commercials with a full screen color photo of Patrick Ewing and Hakeem Olajuwon trying to gain position on each other. Presumably the picture was taken during the 1994 NBA Rockets-Knicks Finals, won by Houston in seven. That was in a time — a long time, but not long ago — when riveting center vs. center games made nationally televised NBA games extra special. Didn't matter if your team was playing, an epic was in the wind and it was headed your way. 5 Pacers forward Pascal Siakam (43) dunks against Oklahoma City Thunder forward Jalen Williams (8) during the third quarter during Game 6 of the 2025 NBA Finals at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
