Google Cloud hosted its second annual Google Cloud Summit in Doha on Thursday under the patronage of Minister of Communications and Information Technology HE Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai, bringing together more than 1,500 industry leaders, developers, and IT professionals.
The Summit marked two years of the Google Cloud Doha region empowering local innovation and is set to explore the latest advancements in AI, data analytics, and cloud technologies.
The event featured significant discussions and announcements on strategic collaborations, including key developments with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) aimed at advancing Qatar's digital transformation journey.
The Google Cloud Summit Doha showcased the vibrant tech ecosystem in Qatar, provided insights into transformative AI technologies, and included panel discussions on data management and cybersecurity.
Assistant Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Operations Affairs at MCIT Sami Al Shammari said, 'Our collaboration with Google Cloud has served as a key enabler in Qatar's journey toward a knowledge-based, innovation-driven economy. Since the launch of the Doha cloud region two years ago, this collaboration has yielded tangible outcomes that directly support the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly in enhancing digital infrastructure, delivering scalable and secure government services, and building a future-ready digital workforce.'
Al Shammari added, 'By providing access to cutting-edge cloud technologies, Google Cloud is empowering entities to innovate, improve service delivery, and accelerate progress across key sectors. Their contributions in areas such as artificial intelligence and data analytics are also playing a pivotal role in developing local digital talent and equipping our workforce with the skills needed for tomorrow's challenges.
'We are eager to continue this productive partnership, further solidifying Qatar's digital future and working in tandem to realise the ambitious goals of the Digital Agenda 2030 and Qatar National Vision 2030.'
For his part, Regional General Manager of Google Cloud in Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Iraq Ghassan Kosta, said: 'Today's Google Cloud Summit in Doha marks a truly pivotal moment in our Qatari journey, celebrating two years of our local cloud region and our strong partnerships. We are deeply honoured by the continued collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and their trust in Google Cloud.

Fitch affirms QIIB's rating at ‘A' with a stable outlook

Tribune News Network Doha Fitch Ratings has affirmed QIIB's Long-Term Issuer Default Rating (IDR) at 'A' with a Stable Outlook, highlighting the bank's continued strength across key financial and operational indicators. In its latest report, Fitch cited several factors supporting the rating, including QIIB's solid franchise in Islamic banking, strong asset quality, sound profitability, robust liquidity, and relatively low reliance on non-resident funding compared to local peers. The agency noted that the bank maintained high-quality financing assets, with the non-performing financing (NPF) coverage ratio standing at approximately 106% as of first quarter (Q1) 2025 one of the strongest among domestic banks. Fitch also expects QIIB to sustain its profitability, supported by efficient operations and stable customer-based further highlighted that the rating reflects potential support from the Qatari government if needed, underpinned by the sovereign's high credit rating of 'AA' with a Stable Outlook. Commenting on the affirmation, QIIB Chief Executive Officer Dr. Abdulbasit Ahmad al-Shaibei said, 'Fitch's reaffirmation of our 'A' rating underscores the strength of our financial fundamentals and our ability to deliver consistent growth in an evolving market.' He noted, 'This rating reaffirms investor and stakeholder confidence in our strategy and performance. It also reflects the robust support of Qatar's resilient economy, which continues to offer a strong foundation for sustainable expansion.' Dr. Al-Shaibei emphasised that QIIB remains committed to adopting best practices across all areas of banking, with a particular focus on digital transformation, innovation, and delivering value-added Shariah-compliant financial solutions. He concluded by acknowledging the crucial role of Qatar Central Bank, stating, 'We deeply appreciate the sound policies and regulatory guidance of Qatar Central Bank, which continue to provide a stable and secure framework for the banking sector's long-term growth.'

Qatar's participation highlights its leading economic position on regional and international levels and aims to underscore the attractive investment environment available for foreign investment. The delegation shed the light on the key investment incentives, advantages, and initiatives steered to support the private sector and enhance the competitiveness and diversification of national economy under Qatar National Vision 2030. The minister of state took part in the forum's plenary session attended by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin alongside prominent political and economic figures and global decision-makers. He also participated in a high-level panel discussion entitled 'In Search of New Growth Drivers: Redesigning the Global Financial and Trade Framework,' alongside senior officials including Deputy Prime Minister of Russian Federation Alexey Overchuk, Deputy Prime Minister of Lao People's Democratic Republic Saleumxay Kommasith, Minister of Finance of Russian Federation Anton Siluanov, Chairman and CEO of VTB Bank Andrey Kostin, Chairman and President of the African Export-Import Bank Benedict Okey Oramah, Founder of RUSAL, GAZ Group, and the Volnoe Delo Foundation Oleg Deripaska and Yaroslav Kuzminov, and Yaroslav Kuzminov, Academic Supervisor at the Higher School of Economics (National Research University). The minister of state delivered remarks highlighting Qatar's pivotal role in promoting innovation and scientific research as a cornerstone of sustainable economic growth. He underscored the importance of Qatar's research, development, and innovation strategy 2030, which seeks to catalyse institutional transformation and advance key national priorities, such as food security, healthcare, energy, technology and logistics. He emphasised that Qatar fosters an ecosystem in which the public and private sectors are encouraged to adopt advanced technological solutions that enhance efficiency, strengthen competitiveness, and drive entrepreneurship—particularly within prioritysectors. He also underscored the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) as a successful model of regional integration, highlighting its harmonised economic systems and policies, and shared infrastructure and services. He noted that the GCC continues to make steady progress towards full economic integration, further strengthening its position as a prominent global financial and investment hub. He stated that GCC's aggregate GDP reached approximately $2.2 trillion, ranking it ninth globally, while its capital markets hold the seventh position worldwide by market capitalisation, accounting for 4.3 percent of global markets. The non-oil sector contributed 75.9 percent of the region's GDP in 2024. Al Sayed also highlighted Qatar's success in advancing a digital economy, underpinned by its robust infrastructure and adoption of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies. He noted that this enables Qatar to keep pace with global transformations and position itself as a leader in the knowledge economy. On the sidelines of the forum, he held bilateral talks with Maxim Markovich, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, and Andrey Kostin, chairman and CEO of VTB Bank. The meetings explored prospects for cooperation in various fields and the incentives, legislation overhaul, and promising opportunities Qatar offers to encourage foreign investment. He also toured the forum's accompanying exhibition, including the pavilion of the Kingdom of Bahrain, this year's guest of Honour, and several other exhibitors. He was briefed on the latest services and innovations in sectors such as industry, financial services and insurance, information technology, healthcare, education and science, business consultancy, telecommunications, logistics and transport, real estate, hospitality and tourism, and metals and mining. The official delegation representing Qatar at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum included representatives from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Qatar Investment Authority, Investment Promotion Agency (Invest Qatar), and Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
