Galway busker tells story behind viral proposal moment in city – ‘I was more nervous than he was'

Last week saw a clip of a public proposal in Galway's Latin Quarter shared on Instagram as the sweet moment melted hearts.
The video shows couple Brendan and Cat passing by a busker playing Cat's favourite song, Beautiful Affair, setting the perfect atmosphere for when Brendan popped the big question.
Cat, having no idea that the song was planned for her, can be heard saying 'I love this song' as the pair begin to sway to the serenade.
The busker in question, Jamie Harte, who plays under the stage name Echo Harte, says he rarely receives requests to play such a significant role in such grand gestures, so when he received a DM on social media to surreptitiously serenade for Brendan and Cat's special moment, he was surprised – but excited.
'Brendan messaged me and said, 'listen, I have a very easy gig for you' Jamie laughed. 'He asked if I'd be able to play her favourite song for the moment.'
Before agreeing, Jamie asked Brendan his own important question: 'I said, 'Are you sure she's going to say yes?''
Brendan asked Jamie if he could play Beautiful Affair by Stockton's Wing, setting the perfect atmosphere for when Brendan popped the big question.
Not knowing the song, Jamie was set the task of learning the song within a day of Brendan's request.
The plan behind the perfect moment
Setting the plan in action, he and Brendan agreed that Jamie would be playing outside Burger House after Cat and Brendan had a few pints at The Quays.
Brendan would pass by with Cat, where he would then ask Jamie about his glasses. He would then spontaneously play the Stockton's Wing ditty as Brendan got down on one knee.
Jamie said: 'I was nervous. I think I was more nervous than [Brendan] was!
'I was just focusing on not messing up the song and making the moment perfect.'
In the video, Cat, having no idea that the song was planned for her, can be heard saying 'I love this song' as the pair begin to sway to the serenade.
It was all worth it, however, as Jamie says Brendan was very grateful for his input: 'He was grateful, he was a great, cool guy.'
In the video, Cat is clearly blown away by as Brendan gets down on one knee in the heart of the city centre and asked her to marry him.
To his delight, Cat replies 'yes' and the video captures the heart-warming moment as the couple embrace.
Cheers and applause can then be heard from passers-by and onlookers for the emotional moment.
Jamie has been busking for the past seven years after a U2 gig in Paris inspired him to leave his 'mundane' factory job back in 2018 and pursue his dream of being a musician.
Since then, he has released an album and is gearing up to put out his second in the next few months. He recently released a single, The Same God Created Us which is available to stream on Spotify.
Asked whether he would perform for another proposal, Jame said he would, however added: 'If I started to do this regularly it might ruin the surprise!
'But I'd happily do it again.'

Besides the collective, each of the sisters has carved out their own particular niche: Lead singer and guitarist Danielle Haim is very much a go-to guest vocalist, most recently on Bon Iver's Sable Fable album; multi-instrumentalist Alana Haim has shown serious acting chops and took the lead in Paul Thomas Anderson's '70s-set feature Licorice Pizza; bassist Este Haim was the music consultant on TV drama series, The White Lotus. Haim are leading lights of LA culture now, almost as celebrated for their fashion sense as they are for their music. Their fourth album, I Quit, arrives freighted with considerable expectation, but can it live up to the highs of earlier work? Down to Be Wrong is vintage Haim. A sultry, evocative song that will remind many of Sheryl Crow It certainly sounds subtly different to their previous albums. While '70s influences continue to abound, the 1990s plays a significant part too. That's apparent on opening track, Gone, which liberally uses George Michael's Freedom 90. And it's there again, on closer, Now It's Time, which takes the abrasive beats of U2's Numb and does something intriguing with it. If I Quit doesn't have quite the proportion of strong songs as debut album Days Are Gone, or indeed a single to match that of the peerless The Wire, it's comfortably their most eclectic collection. While some may lament the lack of focus, others will delight in the way the songs hopscotch from genre to genre with abandon. There's plenty of classic West Coast pop, fey balladry, excursions into indie rock, dalliances in funk and some soulful leanings, too. And it's a reminder of what an affecting vocalist Danielle is. She sounds effortless and yet you hang on to her every word. Down to Be Wrong is vintage Haim. A sultry, evocative song, its chorus soars. Not for the first time, it's a Haim song that will remind many of Sheryl Crow. One could imagine it taking pride of place on her 1993 gazillion-seller Tuesday Night Music Club. It is one of several songs that explore relationship break-ups. Danielle may well be writing about personal experience. Her nine-year relationship with Ariel Rechtshaid ended in 2022: he produced each of the previous Haim albums, but beyond a writing credit on standout song, the playful, seductive Relationships, he's nowhere to be seen here. Instead, Vampire Weekend founder Rostam Batmanglij, who had a part in the production of their two most recent albums, steps up to the plate here. The siblings are in good hands with Rostam — as he is now mononymously known — at the tiller. Guest vocalists are eschewed, and it would have been intriguing if Bon Iver's Justin Vernon had lent his voice to the giddy, commercially smart Everybody is Trying to Figure Me Out. After all, he is credited as one of the song's writers and composers.

If there was a roof on the Phoenix Park, Zach Bryan would've blown it off. The country singer performed to more than 60,000 on the first of his three nights in the Dublin park on Friday night. It's the first time that Phoenix Park has hosted such a large-scale event since Ed Sheeran in 2018. The Grammy-Award winning star was greeted by a rapturous applause from tens of thousands of sweating fans as the sunshine came beating down on the gig. Zach entertained fans with hits including Something In The Orange, Pink Skies and Heading South. A day before the gig, Zach was spotted arm wrestling a local in The Celt in Dublin's inner city centre. He posted the video on his Instagram showing off the arm wrestling match, which saw him win over the pub goer. Speaking earlier in the week, Peter Aiken of Aiken Promotions said the Oklahoma star is 'the real deal', comparing Zach, 29, to Bruce Springsteen. He said: 'He's the real deal. He's not country per se but he's very Springsteen. He's a great storyteller and a very dynamic performer – he has a lot of charisma. 'When you have 180,000 people here, they're going to know the words to every song; it's going to be a very unique, special atmosphere. 'His songs are about heartbreak and loss and all the things that people don't like talking about anymore,' he said. 'Maybe [those] in Dublin aren't aware of him, but people outside Dublin are very well aware of him.' Mr Aiken revealed the demographic of fans who love Zach, saying most of his fans will be aged between 18-35 but only 10% of his tickets were bought in Dublin, according to Aiken Promotions. 'Normally for a big concert, say for Springsteen in Croke Park, 50% of our audience were from the greater Dublin area. For this, it's about 10%,' Mr Aiken said. 'There's a big crowd coming from the North and Donegal, Mayo. There's a big crowd flying in from the States. These big events, more and more, attract overseas visitors. People will like the adventure of coming to a different place.' Zach plays to a sell out 180,000 over three nights this weekend until Sunday night. Gardai are advising fans to be mindful of neighbours and the wildlife this weekend. Margaret Gormley, from the Office of Public Works, said: 'Yeah, obviously we don't recommend anyone to feed the deer, and we ask people to stay a minimum of 50 meters away from the deer. They are wild animals. 'We want everyone to enjoy their event, and we do ask everyone to use public transport and to keep to the surface paths within the Phoenix Park. 'The park is over 1700 acres, so we don't want anyone to get lost. We want them to come and have a very enjoyable event. And you know, it is over 180,000 people, so we just ask for everyone to have a great time at the concert, but also to leave no trace and to respect all our neighbours surrounding the Phoenix Park.' Organisers are encouraging revellers to use public transport this weekend. They warned that given that most attendees will be using the Park Gate entrance, they should leave at least 45 minutes to walk to the concert site. Marathon Group is running special concert specific routes from Earlsfort Terrace in Dublin and orbital routes to the Phoenix Park. They will be dropping off in the Phoenix Park and pick up will be in the same place. For those heading to the concerts tonight and Sunday, they are reminded that there is no parking available on the streets surrounding the venue or inside the Phoenix Park.
