Two-year-old debutants ready to reign in the rain at Warwick Farm
A group of exciting two-year-old debutants are set to steal the show in the wet at Wednesday's Warwick Farm meeting.
And with most having trialled well on rain-affected ground, the 1100m Maiden Hcp sprint could quickly emerge as a strong juvenile form reference heading towards winter.
While the worst of the relentless rain has seemingly headed north, intermittent falls through Tuesday and Wednesday will keep the track in the heavy range, with the rail true.
Certainly, stables have planned for such trying conditions, with most races dominated in early markets by runners very adept in heavy going.
Leading the line-up of first-starters is exciting Randwick-based filly Nazwah, which opens her career behind two progressive trials. A talented daughter of 2016 Golden Slipper winner Capitalist in the Peter Snowden stable, Nazwah had trialled strongly, cruising home to win the most recent in soft ground nearly four weeks ago after travelling wide in the run. Jockey Regan Bayliss stays aboard for her debut.
But the challengers are likely to come thick and fast.
Change My Address, a filly by powerhouse sprinter Exceedance in the John Sargent yard, also makes her debut behind two smart trials, winning the latest in heavy ground by nearly four lengths.
Also likely to attract market support on debut is Marinera, a filly by prolific wet-track sire Exceed And Excel, and trained by Bjorn Baker, which has won both lead-up trials. While Dundeel colt Master Of The Air is a big market watch resuming off a strong heavy-track trial for the Chris Waller stable.

A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Sakima (race 3): A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be slow to recover. Stallone (race 5): On jumping shifted out and bumped Hopper. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a laceration to the near-hind coronet. Gitalong (race 7): Jockey Nash Rawiller reported the gelding never travelled comfortably and was quickly beaten straightening. He was concerned something was amiss but no abnormalities were found. She was revealed to be coughing post-race and will undergo an endoscopic examination. • â– â– â– â– â– CRUNCH TIME Millie De Lune (race 4): The victim of a sluggish tempo, she surged home with the best final three furlong splits of the race to clock 33.49 seconds for the last 600m. It measured up favourably against the winner She's Unusual (33.98). Lulumon (race 7): Surged home from just off the speed to nail Storm The Ramparts on the line with a last 600m of 33.13 seconds that was among the best of the meeting. Lonhro's Queen surged home from last in the same race in 32.83. It's A Knockout (race 8): She finished off close to half a second faster than her near rival in a four length romp, clocking 34.84 seconds for the last 600m. Her 11.82 closing split was a clear race best. Headley Grange (race 9): Did enough to continue his sensational run with a 35.55 seconds last 600m in the feature event. Lulumon bounces back with a stunning win at Royal Randwick
Lulumon burst back to her best and denied Storm The Ramparts a hat-trick of Royal Randwick 1000m sprints wins on Saturday. Storm The Ramparts, burdened with 61.5kg, led until the final stride when collared by the fast-finishing Lulumon in the Asahi Super Dry Handicap. 'We will find an 1100m race for her as she will still get that strong tempo so she can hit the line.' Lulumon ($4.40) certainly attacked the line with real gusto to reel in a very game Storm The Ramparts ($7) right on the line to win by a nose with Hi Dubai ($6) a short head away third. Coyle said there were various reasons for Lulumon's Rosehill flop and he anticipated the mare would return to the form that saw her win at the Gosford stand-alone meeting first-up when she also ran down Storm The Ramparts. 'At Rosehill, Lulumon didn't step well, she got her head up in the air and Alysha (Collett, jockey) said the mare hated the (heavy 8) surface,' Coyle said. 'So, we got her home, we reset and gave her three weeks between runs and it has worked out well. She's back on track. 'Mares that can win on Saturday a couple of times, you know there is a nice stakes race on the horizon.' • Brave One's wide run no obstacle in Randwick triumph Collett suggested keeping Lulumon to races up to 1200m suits the talented mare. 'I know she won over further but these short trips are working out good for her because the tempo is strong and she can run over the top of them,' Collett said. Meanwhile, Stradbroke Handicap-winning jockey Tim Clark continued his winning momentum on Rotagilla in QMS Media Handicap (1600m). Hall of Fame trainer Chris Waller switched Rotagilla back in distance from 2000m two weeks ago and the three-year-old enjoyed a more solid race tempo and was powerful to the line. 'With Rotagilla coming back from 2000m I knew he was going to be strong at the back end of his race,' said Clark, who won the Stradbroke last week on War Machine. 'He quickened up well at the top of the straight and he was brave to the line.' Rotagilla ($6.50) safely held his rivals at bay to score by three-quarters of a length from Last Command ($17) with Engine Room ($16) a half length away third. Waller's stable representative Charlie Duckworth said Rotagilla was 'too aggressive' over 2000m last start (when third to Millie De Lune) and will gain confidence from his tough win over the famous Randwick mile course.

It's A Knockout stuns rivals with dominant victory
It's A Knockout dealt rivals an emphatic blow to put a Winter black type tilt on the agenda following his first-up demolition job at Royal Randwick on Saturday. The Ciaron Maher-trained mare packed plenty of punch as she floored rivals in a sensational Traffic Warden @ Darley Benchmark 78 Handicap (1400m) triumph. 'We did learn a bit about her last prep,' Maher's assistant trainer Johann Gerard-Dubord said. 'Because she is a Dundeel, we always thought stepping over a trip would suit but I think she is just a good fresh horse and she is a bit sharper than we thought she would be in time. 'She proved that today and it was a beautiful ride. He ended up in a great spot from a trickier barrier. 'He took his time and exposed her at the right time and she was dominant late.' It's A Knockout is building an excellent record in a short amount of time with three wins and three placings from eight starts. She was placed in a Group 3 Aspiration Quality (1600m) during the autumn and is destined to get another crack at stakes grade next month. Maher plans to target the Listed $200,000 Winter Challenge (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on July 19. • Brave One's wide run no obstacle in Randwick triumph 'It's in four weeks over 1500m,' Gerard-Dubord said. 'She has some black type already but not a stakes winner yet so it's probably the right race.' Meanwhile, Quantum Cat ended a frustrating run of outs to break his Australian duck in The Living Turf Benchmark 88 Handicap (1800m). Quantum Cat won three of his first five starts to begin his racing career in the UK but hasn't been able to replicate that form since moving to Australia in 2024. The Chris Waller-trained import put the writing on the wall with a pair of placings in the lead-up before snaring his first win at his 13th attempt on Australian soil. 'It was a good win,' Waller's assistant trainer Charlie Duckworth said. 'I think the last couple of races we have ummed and aahed whether he has been applying himself fully. 'At Hawkesbury two starts ago he was a little bit unlucky where he got struck across the nose so we gave him the benefit of the doubt. 'Time and time again the jockeys keep saying he is applying himself, he just needs conditions to suit and he got exactly that today.' • Lulumon bounces back with stunning win Jockey Zac Lloyd had Quantum Cat in striking distance behind the leaders and looked to have plenty to offer in the run. Quantum Cat ($3) was able to go through his gears from the top of the straight and was strong late to hold off the fast-finishing Hollywood Hero ($12) by three quarters of a length. Kirkeby ($81) ran on for third. Lloyd felt a favourable draw proved pivotal to helping Quantum Cat finally return to winning ways. 'I was able to use that barrier which helped,' Lloyd said. 'The first furlong was a little bit tricky whether to utilise our speed or come back in behind Braith (Nock) but I opted to roll forward and it enabled me to dictate the race from third. 'The horse was good today. 'We took a bit of winding up from about the 500m but once I balanced up and straightened up, he got outside Zaphod, and I thought I was going to be hard to run down.' Duckworth said the stable will keep the door open for Quantum Cat to back-up next week in the Listed $200,000 McKell Cup (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens.
