Criminal injured in bid to escape from custody in Ghazipur
Varanasi: A
notorious criminal
, who tried to strike fire by opening fire during a dispute in Rampur Manjha area of Ghazipur district on Wednesday, was arrested on Thursday.
When he attempted to
escape from police custody
by opening fire at the police team, the officers retaliated and he suffered a bullet injury on his leg and he was nabbed again.
Due to his reign of terror, locals were initially unwilling to lodge any case following the incident of firing.
A 32-bore pistol, one used cartridge and two live cartridges of the same bore, along with a magazine, were recovered from him.
According to reports, as part of the ongoing campaign against crime and criminals, police arrested
Karmveer Singh
, alias Sunny Singh, resident of Devchandpur village in the Rampur Manjha police station area of Ghazipur district in connection with a case number lodged under sections 288, 351(2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the Arms Act.
He was taken to a location in Devchandpur village for recovery of illegal weapon used in firing on Wednesday.
On getting injured during cross-fire, he was sent to nearby PHC Devkali for first aid. He said he attempted to escape by firing at police to establish dominance and instil fear in the area. He is also a history-sheeter of the Rampur Manjha police station.

He added that the probe conducted so far has established that Gurpreet was in direct contact with ISI and is suspected of sharing sensitive and confidential information via pen drives. Additionally, he said that two mobile phones containing virtual numbers allegedly used for communication with ISI handlers have also been recovered from the accused. The key ISI handler involved has been identified as Rana Javed, DGP Yadav said. Amritsar Rural Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Maninder Singh said Gurpreet systematically exploited his official position to collect classified information, which he then allegedly passed on to his handlers via pen drives and discs. 'The espionage network was reportedly facilitated by an acquaintance identified as Arjan, a Dubai-based drug trafficker from Dhariwal, who introduced Gurpreet to ISI operatives five months ago, he said, while adding that since then, Gurpreet has actively engaged in the unauthorised collection and relay of sensitive military data to the ISI using pre-decided drop locations,' a Punjab Police spokesperson said Sunday. SSP Singh added that Gurpreet had been receiving money from ISI operatives in exchange for classified information. The funds, he said, were deposited into the bank accounts of Gurpreet's friends, relatives, and foreign associates through credit to avoid detection. According to an FIR filed by Amritsar Rural district police, the duo was arrested on a tip-off from a source who alerted them to Gurpreet's suspicious activities. 'Even today, these two (accused) were sitting on the newly built Bharat Mala National Highway in Kaler village and making some plan. If they are raided now, they can be caught, and their phones, documents, and other belongings can be searched, allowing a significant amount of information to be obtained from them. Among them, information about the virtual/WhatsApp and money transactions of the agents of Pakistan's ISI can be found,' a police officer documented in the report that formed the basis of the FIR. Man booked after minor son causes fatal bike accident
Ahmedabad: A man has been booked after his underage son crashed a motorcycle, leading to the death of the pillion rider. Dholka police registered the case against him on Saturday in the incident that occurred on March 14 near Keliya Vasna village in Ahmedabad district. The case complaint states that the 16-year-old boy was riding the motorcycle from Keliya Vasna towards Ranoda village when he lost control. The vehicle skidded off the road and hit a tree, killed the pillion rider on the spot. The minor rider also suffered injuries. Police investigation revealed that the motorcycle was owned by the minor's father, who allegedly allowed the underage teen to ride it. A constable from Dholka rural police station filed the complaint after receiving a telephonic alert. Based on preliminary findings, police booked the father under Section 199 of the Motor Vehicles Act for permitting an unlicensed and underage person to ride, leading to a fatal accident. An earlier case was registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing death by negligence and driving without a licence, along with the Motor Vehicles Act. Statements from local witnesses and police staff were recorded as part of the inquiry, after which Dholka rural police filed another case against the minor's father.

Teen held with countrymade pistol in Dadu Majra
Chandigarh: A youth was Sunday arrested for allegedly carrying a countrymade pistol and threatening another youth with it in Dadu Majra Colony, Sector 38. The accused has been identified by police as Mohit alias Ganja, 18. He lives in Dadu Majra. The complainant, Vivek, also from Dadu Majra, alleged that Mohit threatened him by brandishing his pistol on the night of June 13. Charges under the Arms Act and sections of BNS have been pressed against Mohit. Police produced him before a local court here and obtained his one-day remand for further interrogation. They are trying to find out from where he got the pistol and if he was involved in other crime that took place in the city. In a separate incident, unidentified persons were booked by Sector 31 police for allegedly firing gunshots at a man in Ramdarbar Saturday. Samdarsh told police that a few bike-borne persons shot at his car and damaged its window panes. It was parked near his house in Phase 2 Ram Darbar. Police also found a bullet shell on the spot. No arrests have been made yet.
