Kevin Durant stunned to find out he was traded to Houston Rockets

The trade of All-Star forward Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns to the Houston Rockets came as a surprise to many NBA observers – including Durant himself. The four-time scoring champion and 2014 league MVP was on stage for an interview session on the final day of Fanatics Fest in New York City when he found out he was being dealt to Houston. In return, the Suns will receive Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 draft and five second-round picks, USA TODAY Sports has confirmed. Even Durant wasn't sure the news was real. BREAKING: Kevin Durant was traded to the Houston Rockets while he was ON STAGE at Fanatics had no clue and even asked if it was his first reaction to being traded: 'We're gonna see man, we're gonna see.' "We're gonna see man," Durant said. "We're gonna see." This marks the third time in his career Durant has been traded. The Golden State Warriors traded him and a first-round draft pick to the Brooklyn Nets in July 2019 for Treveon Graham, Shabazz Napier and D'Angelo Russell. The Nets sent him to Phoenix in February 2023 as part of a four-team blockbuster with the Milwaukee Bucks and Indiana Pacers.

Report: Former Warrior Kevin Durant traded to Rockets in blockbuster deal with Suns

BREAKING: The Phoenix Suns are trading two-time NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 draft and five second-round picks, sources tell ESPN. While the Indiana Pacers and Oklahoma City Thunder prepare for Game 7 of the NBA Finals to decide the 2025 champion, the NBA offseason is already in full swing with a major blockbuster trade involving one of the league's top stars. According to Shams Charania of ESPN, the Phoenix Suns have agreed to trade superstar forward Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets for a massive package that includes Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 overall pick in the 2025 draft and five second-round picks. Since leaving the Warriors in 2019, Durant has played for the Brooklyn Nets and Phoenix Suns. In 2023, the Nets traded Durant to Phoenix in a package that included Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson and multiple first-round picks. Durant is now set to play alongside All-Star big man Alperen Sengun, Amen Thompson and Fred VanVleet on Ime Udoka's squad that finished as the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference in 2025. The No. 7 seed Golden State Warriors went on to eliminate the Rockets in the first round of the 2025 postseason. In 62 games in the 2024-25 season, Durant averaged 26.6 points on 52.7% shooting from the field to go along with six rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. This post originally appeared on Warriors Wire! Kevin Durant is going from the Suns to the Rockets in a blockbuster trade, AP source says

The Houston Rockets are acquiring 15-time All-Star and four-time Olympic gold medalist Kevin Durant from the Phoenix Suns in a blockbuster deal struck Sunday, a person with knowledge of the agreement told The Associated Press. The Rockets are giving up Dillon Brooks of Mississauga, Ont., Jalen Green and six future picks — including the No. 10 selection in Wednesday's opening round of this year's draft — according to the person who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the deal was still pending NBA approval. It ends weeks of speculation about where Durant would end up. Many teams were involved at various times, including Miami and Minnesota, but in the end Phoenix took the Rockets' offer. ESPN first reported the trade. Houston finished No. 2 in the Western Conference in the regular season, albeit 16 games behind No. 1 Oklahoma City. It now adds a two-time champion to its young core as it looks to make another jump next season. Durant averaged 26.6 points this season, his 17th in the NBA — not counting one year missed because of injury. For his career, the 6-foot-11 forward is averaging 27.2 points and seven rebounds per game. The move brings Durant back to the state of Texas, where he played his one year of college basketball for the Longhorns.
