Tirlán announces no change in milk price for April supplies

Agriland16-05-2025

Tirlán has today (Friday, May 16) announced that it will pay a total of 50.08c/L (including VAT) for April creamery milk supplies at 3.6% butterfat and 3.3% protein.
This is consistent with the co-op's March supplies, with no change in price.
The base milk price for April is 49.58 c/L (including VAT), which is also unchanged from March.
The price also consists of a Sustainability Action Payment of 0.5c/L (including VAT) to all qualifying suppliers. The base price and Sustainability Action Payment will be adjusted to reflect the actual constituents of milk delivered by suppliers.
The actual average price paid by Tirlán for April creamery milk, based on delivered constituents will be 54.99 c/L (including VAT), the processor.
Tirlán chairperson John Murphy said that while markets are 'relatively stable' there has been a decline in returns for some individual products.
Murphy said: 'We are pleased to be able to maintain farm gate milk price at over 50c/L for the high-volume month of April.
'The outcome of trade discussions over the coming period is likely to impact on market direction. Consumer reaction to higher prices will also need to be closely watched,' Murphy added.
The board of Tirlán has said it will continue to monitor developments on a monthly basis.

Earlier this week (May 12), it was announced that over 11,000 Tirlán co-op members would benefit from a spin-out of €173 million worth of Glanbia plc shares.
The board of Tirlán Co-operative Society Limited has approved the distribution of 15 million Glanbia plc shares to co-op members.
Based on a Glanbia plc closing share price of €11.51 as of last Friday (May 9), this will be worth approximately €5,156 for every 1,000 shares that a member holds in Tirlán co-op, or over €16,804 to an average active Tirlán co-op member.
The co-op said the spin-out was 'overwhelmingly approved' by members of Tirlán at a special general meeting held on October 4, 2024.
Following the completion of the spin-out, Tirlán co-op will remain the largest individual shareholder in Glanbia plc, with 23.7% of the issued share capital.

Single Irish ticket scoops record-breaking €250m on EuroMillions

A SINGLE ticket bought in Ireland has landed the €250m jackpot in Tuesday's EuroMillions draw, making it the country's highest-ever National Lottery win. The record-breaking amount eclipses the €175m won by a family syndicate in The Naul, Co. Dublin in February 2019. According to the National Lottery, the winning ticket was sold at a retail outlet in Munster, reports RTÉ. The winning numbers for last night's draw were 13, 22, 23, 44 and 49 and the Lucky Stars were 3 and 5. Irish National Lottery CEO Cian Murphy has urged players to check their tickets very carefully to see if they have landed the mega windfall. "We are absolutely thrilled to see this incredible and record win for an Irish EuroMillions player," said Mr Murphy. "We are advising our players to check their tickets and if they are the winner, sign the back of the ticket, keep it safe, and contact National Lottery HQ and we will guide you through the claims process." He added: "While this is a massive win, it can come as a shock to a winner and we advise them to stay calm, get independent legal and financial advice and contact us as soon as they can." The EuroMillions jackpot reached its maximum cap on Friday, June 6, meaning the prize could not grow any further. The latest mega-jackpot player becomes the 18th winner of the EuroMillions in Ireland and will take the title of the country's largest-ever win.

‘Farming for the Future' event to take place in Laois

A 'Farming for the Future' open farm walk, hosted by Tirlán, will be held in Laois on June 23. The farm walk will take place on Seamus Brennan's farm at Attanagh, Co Laois, from 11 am until lunchtime, with Tirlán encouraging farm families from across its catchment to attend. Tirlán's sustainability programme teams will be in attendance for panel discussions and presentations by experts from Teagasc, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Department of Agriculture, Tillage Industry Ireland, Dairy Industry Ireland, and Meat Industry Ireland. Farming organisations are invited and encouraged to contribute to the practical, information-focused event. Presentations and a panel discussion will cover key areas such as farm economic performance and sustainability, protecting water quality with smart nutrient management, and how to avail of the Farming for Water EIP grant funding. Attendees will also hear how they can boost performance through milk solids. The whole sector approach to enhancing water quality also includes demonstrations throughout the event on fertiliser spreader calibration and managing catch crops. Tirlán chairperson John Murphy said: 'With a decision on Ireland's Nitrates Derogation now less than six months away, we're hosting this practical, information-focused event close to Ballyragget on the Laois/Kilkenny border to assist our farm families in continuing their work to enhance the environment on their farms. "This whole-of-sector approach is paramount and we want every farmer who attends to take home nuggets that they can implement on their own farm to protect water and help strengthen our case as we bid to retain the Nitrates Derogation.' Host farmer Seamus Brennan said: 'Even the smallest actions on-farm can have a very positive impact on the environment. I've made changes on my farm that have benefited both the environment and the economic sustainability of my family farm. I'm delighted to host the event and would like to encourage farmers to come along.' A similar flagship event in June of last year attracted large numbers and resonated with suppliers, speakers, and partner organisations involved in Tirlán's ongoing 'Farming for Water: River Slaney Project', which has now been extended across the co-operative's entire catchment. Mr Brennan's farm is located at Attanagh, near Ballyragget, close to the Kilkenny/Laois border, Eircode R32 NX26. Read More Demo farm reports 32% lower emissions with more profitable cattle
