PKR denies new IGP Mohd Khalid is party member, calls out inaccurate report
KUALA LUMPUR, June 21 — PKR has clarified that the newly appointed Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, has never been a member of PKR, let alone held any position within the party, contrary to claims published on the social media page of a local news outlet yesterday. In a statement today, PKR secretary-general Dr Fuziah Salleh said that the circulation of an inaccurate profile linking the IGP to a political party could undermine his image and credibility, adding that it could also fuel negative perceptions of PKR as the ruling party if members of the public believe that Mohd Khalid's appointment was politically motivated. She emphasised that such an error should never have occurred and urged the news outlet to conduct an internal inquiry. Fuziah also included an attachment listing the names of Kedah State Leadership Council chairpersons according to their respective years of appointment. 1999 — Tan Sri Johari Abdul 1999 - Datuk Sheikh Azmi Ahmad 2000 - Tan Sri Johari Abdul 2004 - Akashah Ismail 2005 - Tan Sri Johari Abdul 2007 - Datuk Zamri Yusuf 2008 - Datuk Ahmad Kasim 2010 - Datuk Wan Salleh Wan Isa 2013 - Tan Sri Johari Abdul 2014 - Dr Azman Ismail 2018 — Tan Sri Johari Abdul 2022 - Nurul Izzah Anwar 2023 - Nurin Aina Abdullah Mohd Khalid, 60, who was appointed as the 15th IGP effective yesterday, has held various important positions in the Royal Malaysia Police Special Branch, including Chief of the Pahang Special Branch from May 25, 2018, before being appointed as the Bukit Aman Special Branch principal assistant director on Sept 6, 2021. — Bernama

KLIA Aerotrain to resume service for travellers on July 1, Transport Ministry announces
SEPANG, June 21 — The new Aerotrain service at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) will officially begin operations come July 1. Confirming service resumption next month, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said he is hopeful the latest development would allow a greater comfort for travelling passengers transiting between the main terminal and the satellite building. 'I am happy to announce that we are entering the final phase of testings in the coming days. 'If all goes smoothly, we have decided to reopen the train service at 10am on July 1,' he told a press conference after attending a trial-run at the KLIA Terminal 1 building here. The Aerotrain, a key component of KLIA's internal transport system since 1998, was suspended in March 2023 following a breakdown. The new Aerotrain system is expected to improve the passenger experience, reduce operational disruptions, and support the anticipated increase in air passenger traffic in the coming years. Costly click: Facebook investment scam drains Johor retiree of RM535,000 in three months
JOHOR BARU, June 21 — A private sector retiree lost RM535,766 after allegedly falling victim to an online investment scam promoted via an advertisement on the Facebook application. Seri Alam District Police chief ACP Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the police received a report from a 57-year-old local man on Tuesday, who claimed losses exceeding RM500,000. He said the victim had come across a share investment advertisement on Facebook on March 13 that promised lucrative returns within a short time, and clicked on the provided link out of interest. 'Subsequently, the victim made 26 payment transactions into five different bank accounts between March 13 and June 5, totalling RM535,766. The victim was also asked to make additional payments to withdraw the so-called 'investment profits', but those requests were never fulfilled,' he said in a statement today. Mohd Sohaimi said the victim only realised he had been duped after repeated attempts to recover the investment funds proved futile. 'Preliminary checks via the CCID's 'Semak Mule' platform found that all five accounts involved had a total of 22 police reports linked to investment scams,' he said. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, and police are also looking into the possible involvement of mule account holders. — Bernama
