The Business of Beauty Global Forum 2025 Concludes with Farewell Celebration

NAPA VALLEY, California — After three days of transformative conversations and industry insights, the third edition of The Business of Beauty's Global Beauty Forum concluded with a farewell dinner.
Hosted in partnership with L'Oréal Groupe, the evening celebrated The Business of Beauty Global Awards winners who were carefully selected by an esteemed jury including Imran Amed, BoF's founder and CEO, and Ali Goldstein, L'Oréal USA's president of mergers and acquisitions. Goldstein presented the Creative Execution Award in the Breakthrough Track to premium skincare label Akt London, founded by Ed Currie and Andy Coxon from the United Kingdom.
The dinner served as both a celebration of these entrepreneurs' current achievements and a launch pad for the innovations that will chart beauty's next chapter, while providing an opportunity for guests to reflect together on learnings gleaned at the forum. Those in attendance — from beauty industry leaders to retail executives and entrepreneurs — first gathered outside the Stanly Ranch Glasshouse, with its panoramic views overlooking the Napa Valley vineyards during golden hour. As guests took their seats for dinner, Amed and Goldstein delivered a toast reflecting on the remarkable achievements recognised by The Business of Beauty Global Awards.
'It has been so inspiring to hear our finalists' stories and learn about the challenges you have faced and the change you want to drive in the industry,' said Amed in his remarks. 'We are grateful to do these events alongside our partners, including L'Oréal, and over the past few days, we have worked together as part of the jury to deliberate on our winners.'
Goldstein reinforced the collaborative spirit, adding: 'The spirit of L'Oréal is about identifying and supporting the beauty industry around the world, highlighting fantastic innovation, recognising great founders and great brands. This forum really brings that to light and we couldn't have been more excited to have been a part of it.'
The award winners, selected from over 100 applicants from 17 countries and five continents, represented a diverse range of innovative companies and founders. The honorees were celebrated alongside an audience that included Hailey Bieber, Tracee Ellis Ross, Tarang Amin, Marc Terlet, Yasmin Sewell and Sydney Towle. It's not exactly the prettiest time to be a retailer right now. The past five years have wrought seemingly irreversible damage to even the strongest retail brands. Suddenly, very few of us were driving to an office every day, going out to restaurants, concerts, or sports events. The world screeched to a halt. And this had outsized effects on the economy. With fewer of us driving around or commuting, demand for everything from gasoline to button-down shirts decreased. As Covid wore on, we adapted to these changes. More people opted for loungewear and traded cars for walks around the block. More of us made coffee at home, prepared meals at home, and ordered a lot of our necessities from the comfort of our couch. Customer behavior patterns have changed forever, and retail chains have been forced to follow the money. That means trying to meet customers where they are. And, increasingly, that is online. Whether they were planning a new space, welcoming a new family member, or simply needed a furniture upgrade, many people spent the weekend traipsing through a showroom. They'd allow folks to test out everything, from dining room tables to nursery chairs to mattresses. But when Covid struck, most of these stores closed down. So people adapted. They opted to shop instead at online retailers, like Wayfair. Fast shipping and easy returns helped to reduce friction to the online furniture world, so taking a risk on a pricey item became less daunting. Of course, this hurt many brick-and-mortar operations, and many have been forced to reduce their footprints as our online shopping habit sticks around. But some retail chains seem to defy the odds. IKEA, the Swedish chain known for discount furniture and reliable quality (if you have patience for the assembly instructions), has been growing steadily over the years. Customers enjoy winding through the massive, warehouse-style stores and often drive hours just to access the closest one. IKEA has rolled out a new concept, called the Plan & Order Point, which allows more distant customers to come into a smaller-format location to plan out rooms, such as the living area or bathroom. Related: Whole Foods suddenly closing down another grocery store forever These stores, which are often located in urban areas and range in size from 3,000 to 15,000 square feet, don't function as physical stores where a customer can purchase and carry out inventory immediately. Instead, they can chat with specialists and plan out future purchases. But IKEA has announced it will shut down three Plan & Order Point stores - two locations in England and one in Long Beach, Calif. They are located at: Aintree, Liverpool, UKMerseyway Shopping Centre, Stockport, UKLong Beach, Calif., U.S. "There has been an increased demand for Click and Collect services, a desire to shop a smaller selection of home furnishing accessories, as well as the ability to return goods to physical IKEA units, something which, owing to the space available, the current location is unable to offer," a spokesperson for IKEA said of the UK closures. All are slated to close in June 2025. Starbucks' top executive has agreed to further align its menu with the Trump administration's health goals under its 'Make America Healthy Again' initiative, according to Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Kennedy, who has been examining the nation's food system to address the root causes of childhood chronic disease, said in a post on X that he met with Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol on Tuesday, who 'shared the company's plans to further MAHA its menu.' Advertisement During the discussion, Kennedy said he was 'pleased to learn that Starbucks' food and beverages already avoid artificial dyes, artificial flavors, high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners and other additives.' Starbucks said the meeting with Kennedy was productive. Kennedy and the FDA announced a series of new measures in April to phase out all petroleum-based synthetic dyes from the nation's food supply. Kennedy noted that this effort would need voluntary support from food manufacturers, but that the 'industry has voluntarily agreed' to do so. In the span of a few years, Silicon Valley executives have shifted from viewing Pentagon collaboration as war-mongering to joining the US Army Reserve. And if the response Palantir chief technology officer Shyam Sankar — who has joined the newly formed Detachment 201: Executive Innovation Corps — has received is any indication, the tech industry's enthusiasm is just beginning. Sankar told me he has been inundated with messages from people in the industry who want to do the same. 'Hundreds of people have reached out to me,' he said. 'Service is contagious and people respond.' Rep. Warren Davidson (R-Ohio) has concerns about data privacy and tech companies getting too close to the government, emphasizing the need for a balance between innovation and security. 'You can innovate while safeguarding information,' he told me. He said technologies like blockchain, which could track access to American data, offer a promising solution to enhance privacy protections.
