Ex-THE BOYZ's Ju Haknyeon accused of pr*stitution in police report
Ju Haknyeon came under fire after photos of his secret meet-up with former Japanese p*rnstar Kirara Asuka got exposed by Japanese tabloid Shūkan Bunshun. The photos were taken at a private bar in Tokyo's Roppongi district on May 29, and showed him engaging in intimate gestures with her. Contents of police complaint against Ju Haknyeon revealed
The complaint highlighted that the issue went beyond a personal scandal. It indicated a broader systemic problem involving a celebrity prostitution ring that potentially operated with the involvement of agencies and the industry. 'This should not be brushed off as an isolated incident. It raises serious concerns about organized coordination possibly involving staff, producers, and overseas brokers,' the complaint read.
The unexpected allegation sent shockwaves in the industry and among fans. If the police investigation results find him guilty of the offence, it might lead to a chain of similar cases coming to light.
Consequences Ju Haknyeon faced for alleged involvement in pr*stitution
Paying money for physical intimacy is illegal in the artist' home country. Following allegations of Ju Haknyeon's involvement in the offence, THE BOYZ's agency ONE HUNDRED investigated in the matter. As per reports, they found evidence against him and thus, kicked him out of the group, by terminating his contract.
From a legal standpoint, any individuals found guilty of the same might face a fine of up to 3 million KRW or a year in prison. The law also applies for foreign individuals and can be levied against Kirara Asuka as well.

Is 'K-pop Demon Hunters' just a mashup of popular groups? Director spills the tea!
Ever since the teasers of ' K-pop Demon Hunters ' were shared online, fans from across the globe have come up with their speculations about who inspired the iconic characters of the film. Finally, director Maggie Kang is opening up about the behind-the-scenes deets of the show, from how it was made to who inspired it; she's ready to share it all! Director of 'K-pop Demon Hunters' opens up about the film Maggie Kang, the brains behind the film 'K-pop Demon Hunters', recently opened up about the much-anticipated project and shared some exclusive anecdotes about the film. In an interview with Forbes, Kang talked about how interesting it is to see fans fit their idols into the identities of the characters in the film. 'I think what I like to talk about is that there are so many certain archetypes that every group has. It's fun to see this conversation happening because everyone's picking the right member who fills that archetype and that kind of role and looks for each group,' the director shared. She detailed that while no specific group or idol played a major role in the creation of the film, her upbringing surrounded by groups like H.O.T., Seo Taiji, the Boys, etc., became a major point of influence. Kang and fellow director Appelhans opened up a digital bulletin board Kang also detailed how she and her co-director, Chris Appelhans , opened up a digital bulletin board to add their favourite K-pop stars to draw inspiration from. They then later on gave access to their art department, which brought an interesting influx of different kinds of idols and bands. Who played the inspiration behind 'The Saja Boys'? One of the focal points in the film, the demon group ' The Saja Boys ', came from an amalgamation of a number of popular K-pop groups. The characters were inspired by groups like Tomorrow X Together, BTS, Stray Kids , ATEEZ, BIGBANG, and Monsta X. She shared that while making the characters, she and her team kept in mind the basic idea surrounding the members of the group, i.e., the muscular member, the youngest member, the sweetest member, etc. While the idea of the members took inspiration from K-pop, it was the character 'Mystery' that drew inspiration from anime instead. Kang shared how she was sceptical about the character; however, her team assured her and said, 'Trust us.' Along with this, the character 'Jinu' drew inspiration from Korean actors like Cha Eun Woo and Nam Joo Hyuk , as per Kang. Inspiration behind the demon hunters 'Huntrix' The female K-pop group featured in the film, ' Huntrix ', was inspired by modern-day girl groups. Kang stated in the interview that '[We looked at] ITZY, BLACKPINK, and [TWICE]. Who else? I think it was a lot of mixing.' Model Ahn So Yeon also became a major inspiration behind creating the character of Mira in the film. The director then shared how even though all of the characters were inspired by idol groups, she worked hard on giving them all distinct and unique identifying characteristics. She shared that 'Even with the way we animated them, [they were different and distinct]. With their smile, you'll notice Zoey has more of a heart-shaped mouth when she expresses herself. We wanted Mira to be long and lean because I love that look on a woman. I think that's so beautiful. With Rumi , we leaned into a very classic, beautiful Korean look.' ‘I'm scared': Ju Haknyeon says he never left THE BOYZ, to file criminal lawsuit against agency for demanding money over ‘false' prostitution case
2025 was supposed to be the year for K-pop group THE BOYZ—a breakthrough era. But instead, the group is marred with controversies one after another. The first to take the hit was Ju Haknyeon, whose alleged connection to Japanese adult video actor Kirara Asuka led to his removal from the group. The agency released a statement saying they no longer represent him. But according to Ju, he never left the group, and the contract was never officially terminated. In fact, he claims the agency demanded money for damages. He also slammed media reports and viral claims linking him to prostitution, calling them baseless and defamatory. A day earlier, Ju was reported to the police by an anonymous tipster in Gangnam for allegedly violating South Korea's Article 4 of the Act on the Punishment of Arranging Sexual Traffic. Also read: THE BOYZ controversy explained: Ju Haknyeon reported to police after group exit over alleged prostitution; CEO issues apology In a lengthy statement released on June 20, Ju said he's taking legal action, both civil and criminal, against the agency and media outlets that spread false claims or linked him to prostitution without proof. 'I want to hold the agency accountable for kicking me out without reason. And I'll go all the way to reveal the truth. I hope this gives someone out there a little hope.' The boy band member insisted he never left the group in the first place. Despite clearly stating he was never involved in prostitution or any illegal acts, the company is spinning it like there's cause for termination. 'If there is evidence of prostitution, please disclose it to me immediately. Also, I have never left the team and have never agreed to the termination of my exclusive contract.' According to Ju, his agency ONE HUNDRED, allegedly demanded compensation of over ₩200 million KRW (about $145,000 USD) before asking him to leave. He said he never agreed to the terms, yet they rushed to announce it in the press. 'I want to ask whether the agency's attitude of trying to unilaterally remove me from the group just because I was with a famous person in a private setting is the attitude of an agency that should be protecting the artist.' He added, 'Honestly, I am really scared. But if I give up here, this society might become a place where people who have nothing can fall for things they didn't do.' The singer said he waited long for the truth to come out, alluding to his recent hiatus, where the agency cited personal reasons behind his absence. 'However, when someone attempts to bury people under the pretext of something that didn't happen, I can no longer remain silent.' ONE Hundred earlier apologised to fans and said the group will now continue as a 10-member act. 'We sincerely apologise for the recent events involving our artists and staff. We humbly accept our responsibility and reflect deeply on our lack of oversight.' Police are now investigating the case. There's a report filed against Haknyeon connected to the prostitution angle, though nothing has been confirmed yet
