Perak PMR 2025 Draws Over 200,000 Visitors

LUMUT, June 15 (Bernama) -- The Perak edition of the MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025, held at the Lumut Waterfront, concluded today, drawing over 200,000 visitors throughout the three-day event.
Led by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), the programme which carried the 'Pendidikan Tinggi Pemacu Negara MADANI' theme, surpassed its initial target of 100,000 visitors.
In a statement, MOHE said the Perak PMR 2025 met its primary objective of bringing government initiatives and services closer to the people, in line with efforts to strengthen an inclusive, competitive, and high-impact higher education ecosystem.
MOHE stated that the highlights of the programme included 230 public touchpoint services, the MADANI sales involving eight entrepreneurs, a career carnival featuring 12 employers, 75 on-stage engagement sessions, 16 satellite programmes and mobile services provided by eight agencies.
It said MOHE also offered free basic motorcycle servicing, mangrove seedling planting, free health screenings, as well as initiatives such as a beach clean-up activity involving international students.
A variety of interactive and engaging activities were also conducted to enliven the event, including an exhibition by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), which offered visitors the chance to cruise the waters of Lumut aboard the agency's Sealegs amphibious boat.
This edition of PMR was also enlivened by the 'Battle Taranum Live' event, which involved students from the Darul Quran under the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM). Visitors also took the opportunity to check the accuracy of their Al-Fatihah recitation at JAKIM's booth.
Ramping up the excitement was the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), which performed a silent drill. The RMN band also captivated visitors with their performance at Dataran Lumut Waterfront on Saturday and Sunday.
The Perak PMR 2025 also saw people thronging the Road Transport Department (JPJ) summons payment counters, which recorded collections totalling RM31,450.

SIS did not use ‘Islam' in company registration, says minister

KOTA KINABALU (June 21): A check has confirmed that women's rights group Sisters in Islam (SIS) did not use the word 'Islam' in its official company registration, said Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali. Armizan said the organisation was registered in 1993 as a Company Limited by Guarantee (CLBG) under the name SIS Forum (Malaysia) in accordance with the Companies Act 2016. He explained that under the Act, the word 'Islam' is considered a controlled term. Any company wishing to use it must seek clearance from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim). 'From Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry's jurisdiction, specifically through the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), the registered name was SIS Forum (Malaysia) and did not include the word 'Islam'. Therefore, we did not refer the matter to Jakim,' he said at a press conference after launching the Sabah-level 2025 Digital Business Programme at Universiti Malaysia Sabah on Saturday. Armizan also disclosed that a total of 77,546 companies have been incorporated and 1,676 Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) registered across Sabah to date. He said the figures were based on Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) statistics as of May 31 this year. 'This total does not include companies registered under the state's own legal framework, namely the Trade Licencing Ordinance 1948. Of the overall total, 31,110 companies and 1,510 LLPs are currently active. 'In Kota Kinabalu alone, 39,525 companies have been incorporated and 1,118 LLPs registered during the same period, of which 15,331 companies and 1,003 LLPs are active,' he said. He said PPP25 is a new initiative by SSM aimed at supporting the business development agenda for B40 entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners through digitalisation. 'The main focus is to provide participants with exposure to the benefits and importance of digitalisation in expanding markets, enhancing productivity, and improving product quality. 'The use of digital technology such as media and e-commerce platforms not only increases operational efficiency but also opens up wider market access, both locally and internationally,' he added. The Sabah programme marks the first of three PPP25 series planned for this year, with the remaining two to be held in Penang and Terengganu. During the event, SSM also presented Corporate Zakat Wakalah (WZK) contributions worth RM107,518 and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) donations totaling RM45,000 to underprivileged recipients.

Foreign claims dismissed, Sabah's sovereignty remains intact
KOTA KINABALU: Malaysia's success in fending off foreign claims over Sabah reaffirms the state's sovereignty under the Federation of Malaysia and offers assurance and relief to the people of Sabah, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. He expressed gratitude to the federal government and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the government's commitment to protecting the rights and sovereignty of the state. He said that the state government greatly values the various forms of assistance and initiatives provided by the federal government, particularly in areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security. 'The strong ties and close cooperation with the federal government will continue to be upheld to ensure that Sabah is not left behind in national development,' he said. Hajiji said this in his address at the 2025 Sabah State Honours and Awards investiture ceremony held at Istana Seri Kinabalu today, where 60 individuals were conferred state honours, awards and medals by the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sabah, Tun Musa Aman. Hajiji also gave his assurance that the implementation of inclusive and comprehensive development policies under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) roadmap will be further enhanced as part of ongoing efforts to ensure the progress and well-being of Sabahans. He said that since its introduction, the road map has had a significant impact, particularly in areas such as economic recovery, investment, agriculture, human capital development, and the overall well-being of the people. He added that the state government is focusing on the development of the agricultural sector, which plays a crucial role in ensuring food security in Sabah, noting that the key initiatives include the establishment of the Sabah Padi and Rice Board (LPBS) and the launch of the Paddy Crop Takaful Scheme (STTP), aimed at raising the state's rice self-sufficiency level from the current 24 per cent to 60 per cent by 2030. Hajiji also said the state government has approved the establishment of the Sabah TVET Council to coordinate and monitor technical and vocational education and training in line with current industry needs. 'We want to ensure that Sabah's youth are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to the development of the state and the nation,' he added.
