Bristol City head coach Liam Manning leaves for Norwich City
It's been officially confirmed that Bristol City head coach Liam Manning will depart the club, the 39-year-old swapping the West Country for league rivals Norwich City.
Discussions over Manning's future have been taking place over the last week, with an official approach from the canaries coming on the morning of Tuesday 3 June.
It is believed that they agreed to pay £800,000 in compensation to Bristol City as part of the agreement with the head coach.
Manning was appointed at BS3 in November 2023. He came in off the back of Nigel Pearson, who had taken the club to mid-table finishes during his time in charge.
In his first full year he oversaw a huge upturn in results, taking City all the way to the Championship play-offs for the first time since 2008.
Ultimately the season ended with a 6-0 aggregate defeat to Sheffield United, ties that proved to be Manning's last at the helm.
Liam Manning being poached by their Championship counterparts marks the first time the robins have been paid for a manager or head coach since Tony Pulis at the turn of the millennium.
Bristol City Chairman Jon Lansdown said: 'We are disappointed to lose Liam after such a successfulcampaign.
'I would like to place on record my thanks to Liam for his hard work and commitment over the past 18 months and the memories we have made together and wish him and his family all the best for the future.
'We are assessing all options as we look to replace Liam.'
Norwich City sacked their head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup at the end of April, putting former Arsenal legend Jack Wilshere in charge for the remaining few league games of the campaign.
Manning himself has history in the area of Norwich having grown up there, he even attended matches at Carrow Road as a youngster.
Bristol City now turn their attention towards a replacement, with names such as former Forest Green and Luton Town manager Rob Edwards, Gary O'Neil and former England international Steven Gerrard.
