BRICS+ Information and Cultural Media Centre marks anniversary of BRICS creation
Russian officials and experts gathered in Moscow for the first-ever 'BRICS Day' to mark the anniversary of the association's creation, with a senior diplomat identifying the integration of new members as a key priority for the bloc.
The event, held at the BRICS+ Information and Cultural Media Centre, was timed to coincide with the anniversary of the inaugural BRICS summit in Yekaterinburg on 16 June 2009.
A roundtable discussion titled 'BRICS Dialogue: Multilateral Cooperation as the Basis for a Multipolar World' was opened by Sergey Ryabkov, Russia's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and the country's BRICS Sherpa. He said one of the key tasks at the current stage is integrating new members and partners into the group's existing cooperation mechanisms, adding that the role of BRICS as a 'centre of global gravity' will continue to grow.
'We are very pleased that Arab nations have joined BRICS in recent times and that African representation has expanded. We are seeing a strong Eurasian component within BRICS,' Ryabkov said. 'Latin America – particularly during Brazil'spresidency – is asserting itself actively, especially through the highly modern agenda proposed by the Brazilians. We support them and are confident the summit in Rio de Janeiro will deliver positive outcomes.'
The event was held at the All-Russian State Library for Foreign Literature and co-organised by TV BRICS. Other speakers represented the Aleksander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund, the Institute of Asian and African Studies at Lomonosov Moscow State University, and the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts – GITIS, among other institutions.
Janna Tolstikova, CEO of TV BRICS, described the BRICS+ Information and Cultural Media Centre as a platform for shaping the humanitarian agenda of the association. Marina Zakharenko, Director General of the library, added that the institution provides extensive opportunities for projects related to the cultures of member countries.
Experts at the event highlighted its role in fostering academic dialogue. Evgeny Kapoguzov, Head of the Research and Training Laboratory for the Study of BRICS Economies at Moscow State University, stated that such meetings enable experts to exchange ideas and identify common ground.
'It provides a basis for dialogue, for identifying closer points of cooperation – in exchange programmes, educational initiatives, and partnerships between BRICS+ libraries,' the expert noted.
The event concluded with a cultural programme featuring music, poetry, and dance from BRICS countries performed by the group 'The Foreigners'.
The BRICS+ Information and Cultural Media Centre was established in October 2024 by the Library for Foreign Literature in partnership with TV BRICS to promote humanitarian cooperation, culture, science, and education across the member countries.

He underscored the importance of such summits in fostering dialogue, calling the banking sector the 'backbone of any economy.' The conference—organized by the Union of Arab Banks in partnership with French banking institutions—provides a platform for practical discussions and policy proposals, he said. Maait emphasized the need for Arab banks to formulate policies to address both present and unforeseen future shocks. 'It's crucial for Arab banking systems to be able to withstand not only the current crises but those still to come,' he said. He also highlighted the growing importance of regional cooperation. 'There is a shift toward regional solutions. In the future, reliance on international institutions like the World Bank and IMF may no longer be the default. Regional bodies must become the first and strongest line of defense.' Maait said forums like this promote the exchange of ideas and expertise to develop actionable solutions. In his keynote speech, he stressed that economic resilience is now essential, advocating for structural reforms, investment in human capital and infrastructure, and greater support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). He also called for stronger Arab-European partnerships to foster stability and sustainable growth through flexible fiscal policies, resource integration, and experience-sharing. The 2025 Arab International Banking Summit opened in Paris on Friday under the patronage of the French president, bringing together banking and financial leaders from Europe and the Arab world, including Egypt. The event was organized by the Union of Arab Banks (UAB) in cooperation with the European Banking Federation, the French Banking Federation, the Union of Francophone Banks, the Arab-French Chamber of Commerce, and the International Banking Federation. It was attended by Arab ambassadors to France, including that of Egypt, Alaa Youssef, along with senior officials from financial, banking, and diplomatic institutions. This year's summit, titled 'Economic Resilience in Light of Geopolitical Changes,' aims to foster dialogue between stakeholders from Europe and the MENA region. Topics include common economic and financial challenges, opportunities for boosting growth through investment, trade, and technology, and the impact of global uncertainty on regional financial systems.

CAIRO, June 19 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a meeting on Thursday with members of the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding (CCCPA) as part of efforts to follow up on the center's activities, particularly regarding peace and security on the African continent. The move comes in preparation for the fifth edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development. The meeting reviewed the center's recent activities and training programs aimed at enhancing capacity building in areas of conflict resolution, peacekeeping, and peacebuilding, especially in sisterly African countries; within the framework of Egypt's support for the continent's peace and development agenda, the foreign ministry said in a statement. The meeting also touched on ongoing preparations for the fifth edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, scheduled for October 19-20, with high-level African and international participation along with thought leaders, entrepreneurs, and civil society organizations. Abdelatty emphasized the pivotal role played by CCCPA as a tool of preventive diplomacy and praised the tangible achievements it has made in recent years as regards training both civilian and military cadres from various countries, thereby enhancing Egypt's status as a regional and international hub of expertise in areas of peace and security. He also affirmed the need to continue developing the center's programs in line with the growing challenges facing peacekeeping and peacebuilding efforts while paying special attention to empowering women and youth in these areas, in accordance with the African Union's Agenda 2063.
