
Nike set to make history with collaboration that's 'steeped in Indian culture'
Nike's historic collaboration with Indian designer brand NorBlack NorWhite seeks to turn the brand's performance pieces into "symbols of cultural connection" and will be "steeped in Indian culture".
Sportwear giant Nike has launched its first major collaboration with an Indian designer label NorBlack NorWhite (NBNW). The limited-edition styles celebrate Indian culture and craftsmanship and 'invite women into sport' with unrestrictive silhouettes.
NBNW is the brainchild of Mriga Kapadiya and Amrit Kumar. The New Delhi-based label is known for combining traditional Indian crafts and textiles with streetwear silhouettes.
The Nike x NBNW collection is rooted in the practice of bandhani: a centuries-old Indian tie-dye technique used to create the complex patterns. According to Nike, the collaboration helps transforms the brand's performance styles into 'symbols of cultural connection' and introduce 'new communities to colours and patterns steeped in Indian culture'.
The collection includes sportswear and leisurewear essentials including a hoodie, tank, cropped T-shirt, bras and shorts. A Nike x NorBlack NorWhite crossbody bag is also part of the limited edition collection as are four footwear silhouettes for women: the Nike Air Max Craze, Motiva and Pegasus 41.
The collection is available globally on June 11 at nike.com and select Nike Stores. The Nike Calm x NorBlack NorWhite Women's Slides (£54.99) are currently available online in the UK. As are the High-Waisted Printed Biker Shorts (£32.99), matching Light-Support Padded Printed Sports Bra (£37.99) and the Dri-FIT Printed Tank Top (£44.99).
The collaboration is noteworthy not just for its hues but for its focus on silhouettes that promote easy and effortless movement for women. Women's kit is often cited by athletes as particularly restrictive and unfunctional and this new range addresses these shortcomings with breathable and free-flowing pieces.
'This collection shines a light on the rigor, dedication and ancestral knowledge that's rooted in Indian culture, and we hope each piece inspires women to draw into their own athletic mindset while navigating everyday life in India and around the world,' says Mriga.
To highlight the functionality of the designs, Nike and NBNW teamed up with several female athletes. The official campaign features wrestler Anshu Malik, sprinter Priya Mohan and cricketers Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma.

'What really hits different from other campaigns is that this collaboration is designed right here in India by a local collective that gets our vibe,' says Jemimah. 'Wearing Nike that's laced with Indian culture is a flex. It's bold, rooted and ours. As a woman in a sport that's often seen through a male lens, being part of a campaign like this is my way of saying, 'We're not just showing up, we're here to take over, win big and look fab while doing it.''
This is one of a few major moves from Nike to invest in women consumers and athletes. Back in February 2025, Nike announced a joint brand deal with Kim Kardashian to create NikeSKIMS.
At the time Nike shared the collaboration was meant to "disrupt the global fitness and activewear industry with best-in-class innovation in service of all women athletes — championing their confidence, strength, femininity and competitiveness like never before."

Northern Ireland First Minister Michelle O'Neill said that it is now time for all those involved to sit around the table and find a way to start and complete the project. Irish premier Micheal Martin said the opportunity to build the stadium should 'be seized', while deputy premier Simon Harris warned against looking back to see that the moment was 'squandered'. Earlier this month, a UK Government pledge of £50 million for the development of the west Belfast GAA stadium was included in Chancellor Rachel Reeves' spending review. However, that pledge still leaves the project far from its funding target under current plans. Plans for a 34,000-capacity stadium at the site have been mired in uncertainty because of a major funding gap. Stormont ministers committed £62.5 million to Casement in 2011, as part of a strategy to revamp it along with football's Windsor Park and the rugby ground at Ravenhill. While the two other Belfast-based projects went ahead, the redevelopment of Casement was delayed for several years because of legal challenges by local residents. The estimated cost spiralled in the interim. Speaking at a meeting of the North South Ministerial Council (NSMC) in Armagh, Ms O'Neill said it is time for all partners to 'find a way to complete' Casement Park. Ms O'Neill said: 'We all have a role in making sure we get to that point.' Asked if the GAA should reconsider the plans for the west Belfast stadium development based on existing commitments for funding, Ms O'Neill said the stadium is now more expensive than if it had been built 'a long time ago'. She said the delays were due to a 'whole plague of problems' including planning and political issues. She said the redevelopment would bring 'major social and economic benefits'. Ms O'Neill added that Casement Park is an Executive flagship project. 'We now know what the pot of funding that we have on the table, but now it's time for all partners involved to get together and sit around the table and find a way now to complete and start the work on the project and to complete the project,' she added. 'I think we all have a role to play in terms of making sure we get to that point. 'But I think it's now time that we now know and understand the quantum of funding, that we now sit down together and actually work out the next step.' Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly said it is 'now over to the GAA' to set out their expectations on their own contribution to the west Belfast stadium and any potential revisions to the development. She said there was a 'significant amount of need' in other sporting areas across the region with other facilities also needing to be upgraded. She added: 'We need to do so with fairness and equity. 'They are sitting on, I think, approximately £161 or £162 million worth of public spending. 'It's now over to the GAA to decide can they cut their coat according to their cloth, or what their expectations are in relation to their own contribution.' She added that the GAA can 'do a huge amount' with existing funding commitments for Casement Park, and that the GAA should indicate what its contribution increase should be. Mr Martin said the Irish Government had given a 'very substantial' allocation to the project. 'I believe the prospect really exists for a stadium to be agreed and built and this is an opportunity that should be seized in a practical and realistic way.' Mr Harris said the recent UK funding announcement was a 'huge step forward' for the project. He said the Irish Government stands ready to assist the project and warned against looking back to see that the moment was 'squandered'.

The dad-of-one said he had tried to get two seats together, but the other he was hoping to get was already taken. He said: "If we had been sat together we both might have survived. I tried to get two seats together but someone had already got one. Me and Ajay would have been sitting together. 'But I lost my brother in front of my eyes. So now I am constantly thinking 'Why can't I save my brother?' It's a miracle I survived. "I am okay physically but I feel terrible that I could not save Ajay.' The devastated dad-of-one added: "I wish I was not alive."

Scottish Maritime Museum announces international maritime concert
Zawisza Czarny, sea shanty choir from Poland and the Glasgow-based Solo Way Ukrainian Choir will celebrate the seafaring and folk traditions that unite countries across the world The Scottish Maritime Museum is "delighted" to announce that Zawisza Czarny, which is believed to be the largest male sea shanty choir from Poland and only crew of singing sailors in the world, and the all-female Glasgow-based Solo Way Ukrainian Choir will join together for an international maritime concert. The 'Echoes from the Deep' concert will take place on Friday, June 27 at 7.30pm in the museum's glass roofed Linthouse building on Irvine Harbourside. This is the second time that Zawisza Czarny has performed at the Scottish Maritime Museum with the generous support of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Edinburgh. Once a year, 50 'singing sailors' and crew members aged 20 to 88 years of age, board the 1952 three-masted staysail schooner Zawisza Czarny and sail to European ports to promote maritime traditions by performing as sailors would have aboard the great sailing ships of old. The choir performs classical shanties as they would have been sung whilst working on deck, with the division of vocal parts between shantyman and sailors. They also perform instrumental pieces which would have been played below deck during leisure time along with ceremonial songs and contemporary maritime folk. As well as promoting maritime heritage and building international relationships, Zawisza Czarny commemorates important events in the history of Polish naval and civilian shipping. This year, they mark the MS Piłsudski , a Polish troop carrier lost to enemy action off the UK coast in 1939. The Solo Way Ukrainian Choir was formed by Bozhena Yakymenko in November 2022. The choir was born from her desire to bring comfort through song to Ukrainian women who found refuge in Scotland after the Russian invasion. Under the expert direction of Bozhena, who is a gifted bandura player and musician, the choir has quickly built a diverse and rich repertoire of over thirty songs. These range from the heartfelt melodies of traditional Ukrainian folk tunes, carrying generations of musical heritage, to vibrant contemporary hits, including popular Eurovision songs. Today, Solo Way Ukrainian Choir is a powerful voice of resilience and hope and the group performs at charity concerts and commemorative events, using music to bridge cultures and heal hearts. Eva Bukowska, Exhibitions and Events Officer at the Scottish Maritime Museum, said: "Don't miss this rare opportunity to experience authentic maritime and folk music performed by two choirs whose stories embody the spirit of international friendship and the enduring power of song to connect us across cultures and seas.
