New Delhi: Azerbaijan, which has been entangled in a long-standing conflict with Armenia, has taken a major step to enhance the strength of its air force by opting to purchase Chinese JF-17 Thunder Block III fighter jets. Azerbaijan has currently signed a deal for 24 new jets. The entire deal is for the purchase of a total of 40 jets at $4.2 billion. If Azerbaijan uses these aircraft against its adversary Armenia, it may have to contend with India's Akash air defense system, as India has sold its Akash system to Armenia. To counter the weapons received by Azerbaijan from Pakistan, Turkey, and China, Armenia has weapons from India.
A report from the Bulgarian military post states that Azerbaijan signed a deal for 16 JF-17 Thunder Block III jet airplanes in February 2024. This deal was worth 1.6 billion dollars. Now, a deal for 24 more aircraft has been made between the two countries. The JF-17 jet has been jointly developed by the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex and China's Chengdu Industry Group. It is cheaper than Western aircraft such as the F-16 or Eurofighter Typhoon and is easier to maintain. Therefore, Azerbaijan has purchased it. How powerful is the JF-17?
The JF-17 fighter jet is a single-engine, multi-role combat aircraft. Its length is 14.93 meters. It is equipped with the Russian RD-93MA turbofan engine, which allows it to reach a speed of 1.6 Mach and an altitude of 50,000 feet. This jet features the KLJ-7A active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, which helps it track targets over long distances.
The JF-17 Thunder Block-III has avionics and a helmet-mounted display system. It can operate with a variety of weapons, such as guided bombs, anti-ship missiles, and PL-15E air-to-air missiles. This jet has eight hardpoints, allowing it to carry up to 4,000 kilograms of weight. In this way, this aircraft will significantly enhance Azerbaijan's military capabilities. Armenia-Azerbaijan Tension
There is tension between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh region. Azerbaijan is receiving continuous arms supplies from Turkey and Pakistan. On the other hand, Armenia has friendship with India. For India, Armenia has been not only a defense partner but also a political partner in the region. It has supported India's position on Jammu and Kashmir. India has provided Armenia with the Akash defense system for air security. This system is particularly crucial for Armenia. Additionally, Armenia has received ammunition, Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launchers, and anti-tank weapons from India. Armenia has also received the advanced towed artillery gun system howitzer from India.

In meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, NSA Ajit Doval calls for countering terrorism

In an oblique reference to Pakistan's support to cross-border terrorist activities, NSA Ajit Doval on Monday emphasised the need to counter terrorism in all its forms for regional peace and stability during a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing. Doval's call for countering terrorism comes nearly a month-and-a-half after India carried out precision strikes on nine terror infrastructures in Pakistani territories early on May 7 in response to the horrific Pahalgam terrorist attack that killed 26 civilians. NSA Doval is visiting China to attend a conclave of top national security officials of the member nations of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), an influential regional grouping focused on security related issues. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Upgrade to Lifetime Office 365 (Discover Now) prime software Upgrade Undo Doval and Wang also deliberated on various aspects of India-China relations amid efforts by the two sides to rebuild the ties that came under severe strain following the eastern Ladakh border standoff . Both sides reviewed recent developments in India-China relations and underscored the need to promote the overall development of the ties, including by fostering greater people to people engagement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said Live Events "The NSA also emphasized the need to counter terrorism in all its forms and manifestations to maintain overall peace and stability in the region," it said. The remarks are also seen as an indirect message to China to put pressure on its all-weather ally Pakistan to take action against terror outfits operating from its soil. Wang noted that China-India relations have made some positive progress and it is essential that both sides further enhance communication, build mutual trust, and work toward resolving practical issues, according to Chinese envoy to India Xu Feihong. "Only when the dragon and elephant dance together can there be a win-win outcome. China and India should properly handle sensitive issues and maintain peace and tranquillity in the border regions," Xu said in a social media post. "Doval said that India is willing to strengthen collaboration with China in multilateral fields and fully supports China's role as the rotating presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in hosting a successful summit," the envoy said. "As two major Asian nations, India and China can make even greater contributions to the international community," he added. The MEA said Doval and Wang also exchanged views on other bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest. "The NSA noted that he looked forward to meeting with Wang Yi in India at a mutually convenient date for the 24th round of the Special Representative (SR) talks," it said. China is hosting the SCO conclave in its capacity as the current chair of the grouping. The military standoff in eastern Ladakh began in May 2020 and a deadly clash at the Galwan Valley in June that year resulted in a severe downturn in ties between the two neighbours. The face-off effectively ended following completion of the disengagement process from the last two friction points of Demchok and Depsang under an agreement finalised on October 21 last year. In December, NSA Doval visited Beijing and held talks with Wang under the framework of Special Representatives (SR) dialogue on the boundary dispute. The decision to revive the SR mechanism and other such dialogue formats was taken at a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan on October 23. The Modi-Xi meeting came two days after India and China firmed up a disengagement pact for Depsang and Demchok.

DeepSeek providing support to China's military, claims senior US Official: ‘DeepSeek sought to use…'

A senior US State Department official has accused Chinese artificial intelligence firm DeepSeek of supporting China's military and intelligence operations, a report has said, adding that the official also said that the company also used shell companies in Southeast Asia in an attempt to unlawfully acquire high-end US semiconductors . The allegations, shared with news agency Reuters on the condition of anonymity, represent the US government's first formal assessment of DeepSeek's ties to Beijing and its activities. The official stated that DeepSeek has 'willingly provided and will likely continue to provide support to China's military and intelligence operations,' a claim that goes 'above and beyond open-source access' to its models. This news comes after the Hangzhou-based DeepSeek gained global attention in January by claiming its AI models could match or surpass those from US industry leaders at a significantly lower cost. 'DeepSeek sharing user data with Chinese government' According to the official, the US government believes DeepSeek is sharing user statistics and information with Beijing's state surveillance apparatus, a concern amplified by Chinese laws that compel companies to share data upon request. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! Reuters could not independently verify this data. DeepSeek trying to 'evade' US ban on chips: US official The report also claims that the US official also detailed DeepSeek's efforts to circumvent American export controls on advanced AI chips, specifically Nvidia 's H100s. 'DeepSeek sought to use shell companies in Southeast Asia to evade export controls, and DeepSeek is seeking to access data centers in Southeast Asia to remotely access U.S. chips,' the official was quoted as saying. Meanwhile, Nvidia said it does not support parties that violate US export controls and noted that with current restrictions, it is 'effectively out of the China data center market.' An Nvidia spokesman also stated their review indicated DeepSeek used "lawfully acquired H800 products, not H100," a less powerful chip designed to comply with US export rules.
